  • Wing and Mountainboard - Summer is here at last.... Let’s use it well!
    Who knows what opportunity it may bring, where it may take us, or what we might learn.
    We have been waiting, and we are ready!
    About eight months ago I bought myself a wing, it seemed expensive at the time, but I could see the benefits, the opportunity, the fun.
    My rough plan was to keep things simple. I used what I had - a mountainboard.
    How hard could it be?
    That is no longer the question. As with most things it is practice that builds confidence. Now I am hooked - and the new question is:
    Where will it take me?
    Winter will return, and when it does we will be better prepared, more practiced, eager and ready for the stronger winds it brings.
    But now Summer is here, use it wisely - wing!

    Got a non-inflatable wing a couple months ago for my paddleboard but with in a week I bought a mountainboard off amazon. NW Ohio is very cold at the moment but I am looking for ski apparel because I am not very patient.

    My Duotone Unit wing is arriving next week...can't wait to dust off my mountain board and try it out. Also have to use with my SUP so I'll check your other vid too 🙂

      It's a lot of fun, I think you're going to enjoy it if you have a suitable area to use. My mountain board was unused in the shed for a few years before I bought a wing, they go well together and you don't get cold and wet! Once you've got the hang of it, it's a natural progression to get in the water though, have fun! 😁

      @@intheoutside123 yep same, I used to use a foil kite with my mountain board, but the whole hassle of setting up the lines and packing up after was a bit of a turn off, so when I saw people "winging" in Tarifa, Spain I thought instantly "it must also be good for landboarding!" which led me to your videos :) ... I'll eventually get a foil board, just the waters around me are not the deepest so SUP will be best initially

      @@intheoutside123 nice Video- just got a wing (ex wind and kite surfer)- like you I have a mountain board in the shed. Any tips for getting going?? I’d say tyres would need to be pretty hard- I used it with kites but I’d say you’d need stronger wind with the mountain board?

      @@martyc5674 Thanks! Yep, firm tyres and firm sand. Not worth the effort less than 15 knots, point downwind to get going if necessary. I find around 20 knots is fun. Rinse after, then I spray silicone or similar towards wheel bearings, seems to help!

    Hi, was wondering if you still winging along Brean. Would love to watch and maybe learn, just dont want to spend about £500 on a wing and not be able to use it. I am 60 with a double hernia but still very young at heart and as I mentioned in another of your vids, I tried a mountain board and kite but tbh was useless using the 2 together although can use both individually.
    Thanks in advance for any feedback

      Hi, yes I totally get where you're coming from! I still love to get out when I can but definitely less often than I'd like right now, but with longer days coming hopefully that can change. Perhaps drop a line to contactintheoutside@gmail.com and I can let you know if I plan to go out. Does tend to be a bit last minute, need 15 to 22 knots straight onshore on firm sand for best results (plus time off work!) 👍🏽

    What equipment are you using? Are you still into it. I’m living on a beach similar to yours

      I'm using Naish 4.6m wing and a cheap-ish mountainboard (which is no longer made). It's good fun in the right winds, but it's been a while since I've been out, life's a bit busy!

    What sort of wind range are you finding that works? I wingfoil on a 5m duo slick, on the water I only really head out in around 15kts+.

    • @intheoutside123
      @intheoutside123  2 роки тому +1

      Similar, anything less than a sustained 15 knots is not worth trying for a sustained run. 20 to 24-ish knots is great on my Naish 4.6. Can go out in stronger but more tiring. Not tried a smaller wing in higher winds yet. Wind direction is fairly critical as not all the sand is always rideable - need a steady onshore at my local beach

    great video, just wondering how do you care for the board after using in salty beach, do you rinse it?

    • @intheoutside123
      @intheoutside123  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks very much! Yes, rinse off and perhaps a spray of PTFE lubricant (I use GT85) over the bearings to displace water. I had one wheel seize a little and thought I may need to replace the bearings. However since using the GT85 after rinsing I've had no further problems at all (other than 1 unrelated puncture!)

    I have a mountain board. Would love to get a wing. Where would I be able to get this [ for a beginner ]? I am in the Northeast in the US. Thanks for any info on this.

      It's good fun👍🏽. Got mine online (UK). It's a Naish 4.6m, plenty of other brands available too, all look decent. Any shop that sells kite surf kites will be able to help you too. I'd say go for about 5 sq meter wing when starting (unless you're small - I'm 5ft 9ish). Wing size is the most important thing. Last years models are fine too and should save some money if there are any left. I found 15-20knots/17-23mph is good for starting out in. Less than that can get a bit frustrating or needs a bigger size wing. I'm comfortable with my 4.6m in stronger winds now, just took my time and got more confident each time I went out. Let me know how you get on!
