Blue pencils were used by people in the design industry as well as the animation industry because it was a tone that was visible to our eyes on roughs, but when scanned in with corrections, was not visible by the scanner and so would make copies that didn't have the 'editing lines' on it. 😎
Love me some learning. Thanks for sharing! Are you in the design / animation industry?
@@Elseweyr I am in the design industry :) I have recently been trying to learn something new myself - turning sketches into digital line art, and found your video very helpful. Glad I could teach you something new as well.
@@lalaatppe8851 that’s great! I need to connect with more people like you so thanks for being here!
If there’s anything I can make a video to help with more let me know
I like that he uses procreate brushes and explains what brush he is using that helps when you are new and trying to understand procreate
This is exactly what I've been looking for!!! I've drawn a bunch of illustrations by hand and wanted to digitize them using Procreate and needed some guidance on how to do that. This is extremely helpful! Thanks!
Procreate is awesome for that! Glad you found this helpful. Happy creating ❤️
Mind blown
You are amazing!! Thank you for this helpful video💕🌟🌟
Thank you for this! One of the realest tutorials I've seen. The idea of pasting in a different picture to use the color palette is genius
Thanks for watching! Glad I could help ❤️
Making your own color palette on the canvas is such a good idea. I never thought of that.
Sometimes just helps me visualize it 😎
@@Elseweyr the idea of making a palette in general is still relatively new but putting it on the canvas is another step, it really helps with shadow and highlights.
I am brand new to procreate, and I have to say your videos are my favorite. You’re a great teacher.
Its an awesome app. Thank you for the support and let me know if you have any questions that I can help with!
Thank You!! For this process very helpful 😁
Thanks for watching!
Loved the way you explain each and every brushes you use while drawing keep posting ❤️
Thanks for the video! You gave some really helpful tips that I know I’ll use 😁
Happy to help! Thanks for watching ❤️
Dope elf. The Come out in winter months lol
Thank you my g
Thanks. Great presentation
Thanks for watching and the nice comment!
What ever colours you have in your mind. Reminds me of Bob Dylan song.
This is awesome brother
Thank you!
Hi Drew, thanks for the video! Really good tips. Like the idea of shading and highlighting using white or black that is less opaque. I’m new to procreate and my mind is blown away with all you can do with this app. You mentioned to use a reference layer so that color doesn’t spill over. Can you list the steps to do this and what layers to do it on? It sounds like a really good tool because the spill over problem is super frustrating! Another UA-camr suggested adjusting the color threshold, by holding down and then dragging your pencil across the screen to adjust but it just never works for me. Thank you.
Thank you and happy that this helped! If I’m filling color on a separate layer then I make my line art the reference later! I made a full vid on tips for coloring artwork that might help out as well!
I was looking for this because I feel like I have a hard time sketching on digital since I can't see the bigger picture and I always zoom in, but this should help
Hope it helps! Let me know any other questions :)
Been watching and re-watching this video and I still can't figure out how to keep the shadows from going out side the lines
I put my color layer has refrence then open a new layer above set to clipping mask and the brush strokes kerp going out of the lines. Can't figure out what I'm doing wtong
Try this and see if it helps get the principle down.
1. Line Art - Draw a shape on one layer with a basic line art brush. Set that line art layer to a reference.
2. Fill Color - Make a new layer below the line art and drop a color to fill in your shape.
3. Shadow - Make a new layer above the color but below the line art. Make it a clipping mask. Take your brush and paint in a shadow. It shouldn't go outside your fill color or lines.
Hope this helps see how to structure the layers to get what you're looking for!
Wow! I'm super impressed with your work. I have some sketches I've done for a children's book I wrote years ago. I need to change the sizes to make everything a little more uniform for the book. And, of course, all those finishing touches are marvelous. I haven't yet purchased my iPad, as I'm trying to make sure I buy exactly what I need to do this. Is that possible with Procreate? Any other advice for an old lady like me? All is appreciated. I'm so ready to get started, yet apprehensive.
It sounds like procreate would be great for making those book illustrations. You can adjust sizes so I’d recommend. There’s tons of great procreate videos online so that’s where I’d start.
Cobalt blue used to be used to hide sketch lines from TV cameras, I think? Great tips, just subbed
Thanks for the knowledge! Have dreams of making stylized animations one day 😎
@@Elseweyr I do! I already wrote down multiple feature length narratives. Turns out you need a lot of time to develop your voice if you really value people's time. Thanks for taking the time to read and respond thougtfully:)
Hi! Nice to meet you😁 I use procreate too. How long have you been on UA-cam? Digging the gnome and mushroom design
What’s up Ganna! I’ve probably been using procreate for a year! I switched over from a $25 drawing pad. I’ll swing by and checkout your channel. Thanks for stopping by by mine!
@@Elseweyr awesome! I am so happy I got an ipad! I use to do traditional water color, but I've found the procreate to be perfect for what I enjoy making! I do a live stream on Sunday, come swing by and chill! It's cool to meet more artist on UA-cam! 😃
Very informative
Thanks!
Stay hydrated homies
How do you lower opacity of a layer? When I click on a layer my app does not look like yours…
In the layer panel, there’s a small N on the right side of the layer tab. that adjusts the blend mode and opacity.
Hi, I got a question.
When I import my design that’s 3000 x 3000 to my procreate Canva that’s also 3000 x 3000, when I resize the design down so that it gets smaller it tend to get really pixelated and blurry. Any way to fix this? Please and thank you!
I would double check the canvas has the DPI set to 300. Hope that helps!
do you mind me asking what kind of iPad you use?
iPad Pro 2nd gen!
How you get the monoline brush
It should be a default brush in the app. You can always edit a brush like the studio pen to take away the taper and pressure sensitivity. Hope that helps!
How do I drop this options down for the opacity on the layers tab
In the layers panel tap on the letter on the right side of the layer row next to the square and that will drop down the opacity slider and blend mode. Hope that helps!
I was wondering why do you do the blue sketch layer? Why not do the final line art using your initial photo art (since it's digital, you can make corrections/changes to the line art layer)? Maybe I'm missing something.
You could skip that sketch layer if you’re comfortable. I just do it to get it digital and like to make changes with sketches rather than line art.
@@Elseweyr Thank you Drew.
can you avoid the blue sketch and go straight into the layer 3?
Yeah! I enjoy sketching but you can totally do that if it works for you!
Can i ask what canvas size did u used?
I used the default canvas “screen size” for this one!
I love this! Do you have a tiktok?
Thanks! I don’t have one right now
I have watched and rewatched this video and i still cant quite understand how hes shading without going out side the lines
I use a clipping mask on top of my color.
Add a layer above your color then tap on the layer and select clipping mask. Now your limited to only coloring on what is existing on the below layer.
Hope this helps!
@@Elseweyr great, cool. Had to figure that one
Art schools teach that(using blue)….🙏
USING BLUE AS YOUR PENCIL COLOR! I know why...it's because if you draw in blue and you go to make a copy of your drawing, the blue color does not show up! It doesn't transfer to the drawing. It is below the spectrum that a copier can pick up. Neat right! I only know that cause I'm old! Ha!
That is awesome. Thanks for sharing!!
does this only apply to blue ?
Maybe more for older copies, but I think the newer ones will see everything
Watched many videos . No one says how to get sketch into procreate. Frustrating .
You can import it as a picture.
