Thank you for this very helpful video. But i still couldn´t find an answer for the most important question: Can i create an auto engage wah pedal? So when it is in the heel-down position - no wah at all and as soon as i use it, it starts wha-ing. Like it is in the Helix or Fractal stuff as well. Or the best thing i could pray for: When i play in the rhythm channel and i start using the wah, it jumps automaticly in the lead channel. AND the wah is working. But the ONLY divice i know what is able to do this, is the BOSS GT 1000. I even called Fractal Audio for this question, but they negated it. Thanks for your inspiration guys
I have requested that Hotone adds a pure volume-only boost/cut as an addition to the available options for the Ampero Switch. Would be really handy for solo volume boosts instead of needing the expression pedal.
I think you might be able to achieve something very similar with a volume block, using it as a cut rather than a boost: 1) create your preset and set the patch volume where you'd like it for the solo boost; 2) place a volume block as the last piece in the chain; 3) lower the position parameter to the level you'd want your rhythm parts to be; 4) assign that volume block to one of the footswitches. Now when you turn the volume block OFF, you get your volume boost... which would look silly, right? Having the light on for rhythm, and off for lead? Read on for extra brownie points: 5) Instead of assigning the footswitch to the volume block, assign it to the CTRL parameter; 6) Assign the CTRL parameter to the volume block; 7) Tap the CTRL parameter until the footswitch light is green; 8) Make sure the Volume block is on when the light is green; 9) Tap the CTRL again to turn it red, and your volume block should be off. Presto - Green for Rhythm, Red for Solo, as the pedal gods commanded. 😉
@@PedalPlatform Yeah you’re right. And that is an option. I actually use the volume cut block with my MIDI setup. I’m just lazy and want an adjustable global foot switch setting so I can turn it on and not have to set it up for all my patches, etc. Thanks for the idea though. If Hotone doesn’t come through I will probably set something up with the ctrl parameter.

Fantastic 👌 Just a question though, is there a work around on how to toggle the on/off switch of wah using the soul press if connected in the expression input?
Stomp (Exp/Ctrl) input settings, can be set only: Expression OR Single FS OR Dual FS and NOT Expression + FS! Because there is just one input jack ( no two like Stage), you CAN'T use both Expression + FS at the same time. (Soul Press II, Ampero Press II). Only Expression OR FS.
I know, I'm working on a video with the two :) I've already used it with the Plethora X3, btw: ua-cam.com/video/NrsOYkBgfXg/v-deo.html&lc=UgxbalUa9JnOKqkMKS94AaABAg
Just got mine today. Tones are great but how do I organize presets and use the footswitches to change while playing a song? I saw how to rename and move the (looks like 99) presets. I need like a folder or something with my own song names in it, then an option to toggle difference scenes when in the song for bridge, verse, chorus, etc. Can this be done? If not, I could always send it back and get the FM9. I got "the call" but this little thing does sound great and I love the tiny form factor. I did not seem to be running out of DSP on reasonable presets which included a nice drive, reverb and delay. Not sure what else I need. Any tips are appreciated. Looking over the online manual now as well but it is not great. I do with the very nice looper had a rhythm machine built in. My guess tells me they will bring that back and bump the DSP on the Ampero III. I would definitely get that one.

Nice vid! My take away from this vid other than the great ideas you've given us viewers is that: if you want to connect both the dual switch AND also have a volume pedal, just use the pedal that is compatible with the Ampero's FX Loop, am I correct?
Basically yes - and you can use any volume pedal that's designed for audio signals (not an expression pedal). Though keep in mind if you have stereo FX running and want to keep them that way, while placing a volume pedal at the end of the chain, you'll need a stereo volume pedal plugged in with Y-cables (the Ampero's FX loop can be configured to run in stereo, which is nice 😁). There is another option, though: use a MIDI controller, such as the Ampero Control. I'm desperately trying to release that video asap, but it has so much content it's proving to be a bit of a challenge. Either way, if you want to see the Ampero Control + Expression Pedal in action, albeit with a TC Electronic Plethora, here you go: ua-cam.com/video/NrsOYkBgfXg/v-deo.html&lc=UgyL0khNQuczHRtbnER4AaABAg. You’ve done a solid job here Clooney. So I have questions - the sounds seem great, the moves with the multiple curves also cool and shoving all this into a built in touch screen has some pluses yes but it appears a bit cramped. 1. How is the editor assuming there is one and what platforms is it on ? Strictly pc or Mac or can you configure this also on a tablet keeping the whole touch UX going ? Are the big editors much faster ? 2. This thing indeed screams for midi controllers as do most stomps for that matter - hxstomp is another world entirely once midi’d up . How is the detail in the midi mapping ? I’d love to do a good exploration myself on this and see about running the X5 alongside for an all white midi beast of a rig. 3. Do you know of any plans to build a bigger version of this and are the units cross compatible? This is the main allure of helix, you’ve got the same workflow across them all and can continue working on all of the physical and virtual units no matter what. Hotone as far as I’m concerned owe you this gear ( if you wanted to keep it ). Hell of a video my man. You’ve got my attention here and that’s saying a lot!
Thanks Alec! 🙏🏻 1. Mac and Windows only, IIRC. I haven't used it much yet other than to update firmware, so I'll come back to you on that. So far I've stuck to the touch screen / knobs, and while there are still a few things that catch me off guard (highlight colors for the big encoder could use a tweak, but that's a legacy thing from the original Ampero) and a couple of inconsistencies (FS4/5 are configured in the Global menu, FS1 to 3 + Exp Pedal on the Ctrl/Exp? 🤷🏻♂️), it's generally quite fast and easy to navigate. The touch screen isn't as responsive as a modern smartphone / tablet, and if you're dragging and dropping blocks you have to trust that it'll do what you want (narrator's voice: not always the case), but I'd still rate it as an overall positive experience, and you can be up and sounding great in a few mins; 2. That's the plan for my next video, from what I've seen you have a semi-extensive MIDI implementation, with CCs for every control that moves or can be toggled on / off. So far I've tested it daisy chained into a Boss DD-200, and there were no breakups in communications, so it seems that MIDI through is also doing it's job. I'll see if I can hook up a whole bunch of stuff, including the Plethora, and see if I can get it to complain at me 🤣; 3. No idea... I only have this on a "here you go, have a play" loan basis, just like I had the original Ampero before it, and while the UX concept is very similar, I don't think they are in any way compatible, as this thing is *a lot* more powerful. So who knows what's coming down the line... Thank you again for the kind comments! 🙏🏻
@@PedalPlatform I'd also like to use both at the same time. Any chance you have done a video on hooking them up with MIDI? If this method is used would I need the Ampero Control as well?

Hi Michael, thank you for the kind comments! 🙏🏻 I went through the same issue with connection, but at the time didn't document it on video. There's another piece of firmware you need to install to fix that, but it's hiding in the support pages rather than the main A2S page. Try this link: www.hotoneaudio.com/support/2. If it doesn't take you there, follow the Support link at the top of the page, then MultiEffects, Ampero II Stomp, and look for a "Solution of Ampero II Stomp Hardware & Software Connection Problem". The readme for that only talks about USB Audio, but it's a general connection fix. Get that, install it, and that should do it for you. 😃
@@PedalPlatform hey thanks for the tip...but I tried the Solution firmware update & still no luck....so I uninstalled & reinstalled the driver & editor...still "no device connected?....I've gotta figure this out so I can download & upload patches and backup my stuff...any other ideas?"...thanks again.....
@@michaellocke5263 had same issues. Fix for me was downloading recommended doc which was a zip with a 1.10 bin file that then worked to connect to software and then updating latest firmware 1.0.5 through the regular software that was previously never recognizing by the unit.
I haven't tried to break it yet, but I've had some relatively complex chains running for this video and it worked. I'd say that for 95% of common guitar sounds it's perfectly fine, but one of these days I'll go chase the other 5% 😄
Just bought the Astomp but don’t have possession of it yet. I already have a hotone volume/wah. Any idea if I can use that as an expression control with Astomp?
your easy to read when you dislike stuff. for someone that paid actual money for the Stomp 2 its disheartening. As your opinions should be somewhat un biased when a company sends you gear. Even your playing is lacking due to you not being into the gear.
Thank you for that comment, that made me stop and think for a minute. There's quite a bit to unpack here, so let me try in some random order that hopefully will make sense in the end: On reviewer's bias: - I *should*, and definitely try to, be as unbiased as possible with gear that is sent to me "for free". In fact, not having dropped money on that gear allows me to see it for what it is, without buyer's remorse or confirmation bias; - That said, being "unbiased" doesn't mean I have to like something just because it was "free". If I did that, I would be accused by others (and myself...) of being a paid shill - which I definitely try not to be; - Being "unbiased" also doesn't mean not having an opinion on something - it means giving it a fair shake before making my mind up; - But an integral part of that "unbiasedness" (is that a word?... oh well, it is now) is pointing out things that I consider to be shortcomings / failures / plainly idiotic, and preferably any potential workarounds. If I didn't, I'd be remiss. Or biased... On my being easy to read: - (the following is for context only, not for the sobs or tiny violins): I have a full time job, a family, and I'm a one-man production crew operating from a tiny room in an apartment in a relatively noisy building; every time you see me on camera in one of these tutorial videos I will have already spent at least 20/30 hours (over several days) in pre-production, and probably at least a couple of hours on the day itself setting up cameras, mics, guitars, gear, and *after* a full day's work, because I can only record at night after most people have gone to bed and it's quiet enough to hit the big red button with an open microphone; - Sometimes I will look a bit fed up, or my breathing will sound a bit labored, and my playing will sound like crap - and it will probably have *nothing* to do with the gear I'm demo'ing, and everything to do with the camera that just overheated, or the recording software that just crashed in the middle of the 3rd take, or the effing neighbor's dog barking for 2 straight hours, or... 🤷🏻♂️ But I do understand that sometimes that might be a disservice to the gear, and I struggle with that thought. I'm learning to stay away from the cameras when I'm not feeling up to speed, because I want the energy in the videos to be positive; on the other hand, sometimes I also just want to put out the videos asap, because the information I want to convey might be more important than me looking all smiley and happy. It's a fine line I'm still learning to thread. But lastly - and more importantly: please don't let any UA-cam Random Reviewer such as myself dictate how *you* feel about your gear. We don't have that right. As an example: there are reviewers for whom nothing but a Fender Custom Shop will do, and consider my Player Strat a "decent beginner's guitar" (if they're feeling generous...) because it costs less than $1000 and it's not made in the USA. Turns out it's my most expensive guitar, and I have shitloads of fun with it. If I were to listen to them, I'd throw it in the fireplace and quit music altogether. My Marshalls aren't even handwired... 🤷🏻♂️ I do like the Stomp. I'm still working on a follow-up to this video, using the Ampero Control, but life got it in the way. I'm hoping to get it out in the next few weeks, but at this point I can't make any promises. I will have to send it back at some point, as it's only on loan, and the only reason I probably won't buy it is because I have other amp modellers / effects units that are more suited for my current needs. But if I were in the market for a compact, expandable, great sounding all-in-one unit with a decent price, I'd certainly be thinking about buying it.

2. That's the plan for my next video, from what I've seen you have a semi-extensive MIDI implementation, with CCs for every control that moves or can be toggled on / off. So far I've tested it daisy chained into a Boss DD-200, and there were no breakups in communications, so it seems that MIDI through is also doing it's job. I'll see if I can hook up a whole bunch of stuff, including the Plethora, and see if I can get it to complain at me 🤣;
3. No idea... I only have this on a "here you go, have a play" loan basis, just like I had the original Ampero before it, and while the UX concept is very similar, I don't think they are in any way compatible, as this thing is *a lot* more powerful. So who knows what's coming down the line...
Thank you again for the kind comments! 🙏🏻
Very good video,my expression, volume pedal stopped working suddenly. Anyone ever had that problem? Was working fine.
Thank you 🙏🏻 Have you checked the cables, and that it is active in the Ampero menus? 🤔
Is it possible to use the Ampero switch and an expression pedal at the same time? There’s only one input.
Because there is just one input, it is NO possible.
Is there a way to use the switcher and the expression pedal at the same time? Or is the hotone control the only way?
Only via MIDI, yes...
@@PedalPlatform I'd also like to use both at the same time. Any chance you have done a video on hooking them up with MIDI? If this method is used would I need the Ampero Control as well?
Great video, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Thanks so much for the awesome video!.....love my A2Stomp I got a couple months ago....decided I had to have the switch & APress & took the leap and got the A Control also!....I'm a noob at this midi thing so my brain is mush trying to figure out how I want to organize all the choices for switching...so I'll definitely be watching for your video on the Control....
One problem I need to resolve is my computer (PC) doesn't recognize my stomp, so I haven't been able to use the editor except I was able to update the firmware...I get a no device connected msg.....any thoughts?
I had the same problem and had to fiddle around with the support page, that had an additional download. Once I did that it worked on Windows.
How is the dsp limit? I’ve heard it runs out of space quickly.
I haven't tried to break it yet, but I've had some relatively complex chains running for this video and it worked. I'd say that for 95% of common guitar sounds it's perfectly fine, but one of these days I'll go chase the other 5% 😄
we still wait for the MIDI controler review :D
I know... 🤦🏻♂️ I filmed a good chunk of it, but still need a bit more work. It'll come! 😬
Hotone' needs to send a 'Software UpDate' for an on screen 'Looper On' notification! 🎼
jeeeeesus. ... Giganormous Vid of Awesomeness :)
And there's more on the way! 😁
Bravo!!!!
SUPER !!! :)))
BUT this thing has only one input and if you connect footswitch you may forget about exp pedal
Just bought the Astomp but don’t have possession of it yet. I already have a hotone volume/wah. Any idea if I can use that as an expression control with Astomp?
If it has an expression pedal out (not the audio in / out), yes. If not, then you can only use it for audio. 🫤
👌
☕☕
....volume knobs....😆
"HoT Tone" has 2 "Tees"
It must be pronounced either Ho-Tone, or Hot-One.
I like Ho-tone.
It sounds more musical.
your easy to read when you dislike stuff. for someone that paid actual money for the Stomp 2 its disheartening. As your opinions should be somewhat un biased when a company sends you gear. Even your playing is lacking due to you not being into the gear.
Thank you for that comment, that made me stop and think for a minute. There's quite a bit to unpack here, so let me try in some random order that hopefully will make sense in the end:
On reviewer's bias:
- I *should*, and definitely try to, be as unbiased as possible with gear that is sent to me "for free". In fact, not having dropped money on that gear allows me to see it for what it is, without buyer's remorse or confirmation bias;
- That said, being "unbiased" doesn't mean I have to like something just because it was "free". If I did that, I would be accused by others (and myself...) of being a paid shill - which I definitely try not to be;
- Being "unbiased" also doesn't mean not having an opinion on something - it means giving it a fair shake before making my mind up;
- But an integral part of that "unbiasedness" (is that a word?... oh well, it is now) is pointing out things that I consider to be shortcomings / failures / plainly idiotic, and preferably any potential workarounds. If I didn't, I'd be remiss. Or biased...
On my being easy to read:
- (the following is for context only, not for the sobs or tiny violins): I have a full time job, a family, and I'm a one-man production crew operating from a tiny room in an apartment in a relatively noisy building; every time you see me on camera in one of these tutorial videos I will have already spent at least 20/30 hours (over several days) in pre-production, and probably at least a couple of hours on the day itself setting up cameras, mics, guitars, gear, and *after* a full day's work, because I can only record at night after most people have gone to bed and it's quiet enough to hit the big red button with an open microphone;
- Sometimes I will look a bit fed up, or my breathing will sound a bit labored, and my playing will sound like crap - and it will probably have *nothing* to do with the gear I'm demo'ing, and everything to do with the camera that just overheated, or the recording software that just crashed in the middle of the 3rd take, or the effing neighbor's dog barking for 2 straight hours, or... 🤷🏻♂️
But I do understand that sometimes that might be a disservice to the gear, and I struggle with that thought.
I do like the Stomp. But if I were in the market for a compact, expandable, great sounding all-in-one unit with a decent price, I'd certainly be thinking about buying it.
do you need gloves ?? I give you one !
