This one really gets me in the feels...

The first half of the album is great on the first listen through, but some of these latter-half tracks grow on you a lot after a few listens, like a fine aged wine.

Something intoxicating about this one. The lyrics are strung together very elegantly which took me off guard. I can see why people might not dig it, coming from IF, but you can't deny how well they executed it.
100% agree, I've been a fan since Jester Race, they lost me a little after A Sense of Purpose but this album is awesome and I love how they did this song

The mid tempo harmonics are utilized in a somber yet powerful way. I'm always a whoracle-colony guy, but they pulled it off nicely with this one.

At first I wasn't sure what to make of this song. Maybe just because it's not as heavy as I anticipated. It has to be one of the catchiest and craftiest songs on the album. The album diversity is amazing, great job IF. I like your evolution
I am listening to their music since 2009. Decided to mark myself with their symbol on my chest in 2015, my first tattoo. Did not regret it so far, doubt I ever will. Sure I am sad that some people left the band, but with each album, I can't and not to admire the lyrics, music, artistic approach. For me In Flames is a band that is constantly maturing, evolving and is not afraid to express that. And I appreciate that very much and is one reason why I love their work so much.
One of my favorite songs off the album. Gives me goose bumps every time and gives me that extra boost in the gym. Can't wait to see these lads on tour sometime in the near future. Stay safe out there jester-heads \m/

This is a great album
In Flames, the band that are know how to make such a great melody. Not just a typical "heavier" band.
Haziq Iz'aan it’s not Gothenburg Death Metal without the melodies. They may not be strictly that style nowadays, but they still pioneered it.
in the past they had both.
People can say what you want about in flames the old vs new...it's all great and this album is great all the way, everyone has their opinion but unless you respect everything the band does then you can't true fully call yourself a fan, you can not like a few songs even an album but at least respect what they did

Absolutely love this song, but the step up in the chord progression in the last 1/3rd of the song chorus threw me for a loop. When his vocs hit that high note it matched and was awesome, but the whole transition didn't make much sense, it was almost like it was a forced change just to be different. I applaud the effort to be different, but in this case the song was rolling along perfectly and a few changes to the guitar parts in the same scale could have accomplished the same thing without compromising the flow. Not beating these guys down by any means, you all are awesome. This change though didn't make much sense to me. Much love from a fellow musician :)

I miss those perfect harmonic riffs from 1999-2008. Every song from 00's is better than whole this album. The colour of present music is grey.
as a Children of Bodom fan I must disagree...their album sounds amazing. And speaking of colours, their albums feel very much like the respective album colour and purple thus far seems to be exactly like fans wished it to be. I even like the In Flames album, but I can't say I don't see why fans wouldn't like it. But as a guitar player I'm extremely thanful to CoB for practically improving my skills by just feeding me new stuff that gets better with every record nowadays instead of the ongoing trend of doing it the opposite way

Where is the deepest lyrics of 90's, where is the headbanging riffs of 00's, where is the true emotional lives and really good Friden's vocal? Every new song - man, I heard it before, the same lyrics, the same vocal, the same music, absolutely elusive riffs, non-melodic solos (speed scaling, nothing more). Feels like guys makes their songs with one shitty template.

I, the mask > so what?
Ugh, not sure yet (respecting your opnion no matter what). I really enjoyed So What? for the most parts, just the closing track was, in parts, a bit too cheesy for me. Just listened through it once though. But there are also some points on I, the Mask I cannot yet say if I'm gonna get into, for example Follow Me.... well executed, not really my cup of tea though. Yet there is something about the musical presentation that really hooks me. Same with In This Life. Gotta say that I really like the smooth and elegant vocal arrangements of We Will Remember, and after listening to it for like 5-6 times, I even started getting into (This Is Our) House, though the beginning stays gimmicky and cringy as hell to me. On the other hand, there're songs like I've Seen It All, The Guilty Party and Set You Free on So What? that leave me standing in awe just like I Am Above, Burn or I, the Mask. Really excited to find out how time will shape these albums for me!
What do you think of So What?, except that you do not enjoy it as much as the Mask, obviously?
