“I don’t think anyone in this room is keeping score today” - said whilst looking Shawn Farqhuar dead in the eyes as he’s there as a judge literally keeping score to me was the most brilliant bit of performance at FISM I’ve seen so far. Following it up with the french guy comment referring to Markobi’s chaotic performance was also a delight. Thank you for the performance!
@@ShawnFarquhar 😆yeah, Erik was rad the one time I’ve met him. Tagged along with some of my old fire/ sideshow partners who were on a bill with him at bossy grrls pinup joint in Columbus OH.
@@ShawnFarquhar has this annoying habit of being a really good spectator for magic. He just keeps smiling and having fun. Also, he’ll tell you later that you did a good job and mention the things he likes about your act and you personally. It’s like he actively wants to be your friend. What a monster.
4:45 That smile and chuckle from Shawn brings me joy. He's both a judge and FISM winner. He knows cards and sleight of hand. But it looks like that reaction stems from him genuinely having not seen you load the card. For just a second, he went from judge to delighted spectator. I do magic, but I rarely do magic for magicians, just out of paranoia of looking like a goober. But if that kind of reaction is what is there, I need to start.
He's just a great spectator of magic because he's extremely willing to suspend disbelief. You can see him just looking Erik in the eye and swallowing the misdirection whole while Erik unloads the card because all he cares about at that moment is to be entertained.
Wow!!! Having watched you do this act a few times, I’m amazed on how you continually elevated this trick! I thought your Penn and Teller presentation was so phenomenal, and the subsequent ones were such improvements on perfection, but your FISM presentation was truly a world class presentation! Well deserved recognition of your awesome talent and hard work!
@@Piscariello1990 only so much you can do with the camera angle. Keep in mind that I am playing to judges who are at a different angle than where the camera is. So my finger is in the correct position, just not for the camera. It’s in the correct position for trying to win a FISM prize. But good note.
Holy shit I saw this the first time you performed on Penn and Teller, DAMN my dude this is so much more natural and clean! The other one was amazing, this one is stellar. Really enjoyed it
Congratulations Erik! I was so pleasantly engrossed in your performance that even though I was watching this on my phone and alone, I broke into actual applause. Thank you for representing the U.S. at FISM, you were awesome!
I am magician and i crazy about the monte tricks. And you add something to this category of trick. You add an very good presentation and original effect. It's not just "Find the queen" ! All the effect of this trick is justified and execute with a method i'd never seen before. And a final with 3 clear card is just... beautyful !
Doing those moves for a laymen is super hard enough. Doing them in from of Farquhar is insane. Super large huevos, dude. Best monte routine I’ve seen in like fifteen years.
Execellent performance Erik. I hope that one day I will be able to compete at FISM. I am one of the podcast listeners, and when I found out you were going to TAOM also, I got very excited. I am only fourteen, and this will be my first magic convention. I tried out for the junior close up contest and I was accepted, and I will be honored of you would come to watch it. It would make my day. I am a huge fan of yours, and I really hope we can “throw some cards around!” Congrats on winning third place in FISM, and I hope I’ll get to meet you at TAOM! Kindest regards, Jake McCord
I really enjoy the Penguin podcast. Thanks for doing it. I am learning with my 12 yr old son. He is wanting to start doing birthdays, etc. I get nervous doing it for family and friends. I would love to get to Columbus to a show sometime. We are in a bit of 'magic desert' in very Southern Illinois; 4 hours to Brent Braun's, 5 to Branson. Ickle Pickle isn't too far, but haven't gotten there yet. Keep up the good work. And congratulations on FISM!
Very...very...entertaining peformance. I loved the back and forth between the viewers. And Shawn Farquhar sitting to your left. He was so awesome to be making constant eye contact with you...lol.
Imagine doing close up magic at FISM, while Shawn Farquhar is sat next to you burning your hands haha. I’ll be honest, I followed most the routine, but the presentation was superb, the sleights were fantastic and all while being very funny.
Wow, this was so clean !!! The "invisible deal" (not sure if that the name), all the switches with the misdirections, but still be able to continue talking and doing some jokes about NFTs lmao ! You're an amazing magician/sleight of hand master !
Nick Locapo's tailor made that tie for me. When you're going to the world championships you get ready by seeing the person that makes the suits for the best hair in magic!
It's inspirational how much work you've put into the presentation, to effectively portray a confident, fast-talking character (whether or not you felt that confidence).

THANKYOU! Those inside baseball jokes were literally my favorite part of the whole experience. You win the thread.
Ayyyy. Performing for Sean Farquhar has to be nerve-racking.
I agree, I've done it a few times, but usually in a mirror. p.s. Erik is a rockstar

Love your energy Erik, very clever, very beautiful, very very very very entertaining act. Well deserved.
The initial snap deal and vanish of the three cards was SOO CLEAN
