Using the blue tape with the jigsaw does help. You should use it on both sides of the cut. You could also use it when drilling the handle holes. A forstner bit would've been a better choice though.
What are the measurements on the two pieces for the storage area the 13 x 7 1/2 pieces are those 45° angles and what is the spacing that you go to in the middle and down the side thank you for your time.
Not sure why you felt the need to use the spade bit to drill all the way through. Could've stopped 1/8" short on both ends, then no tear out. On the paper towel holder, you could've used the spade bit again to create a recess for the dowel, added a bit of glue in there too rather than just the screw holding it all together, don't think that will hold after a bit of banging around. Just a few thoughts, great build otherwise.
