It's an interesting concept and I want to see what they develop out of this. People need to grow up. I've been watching NASCAR since 2009 and have seen the sport evolve since then. Some changes I've questioned, like stage racing, but they spice things up. Change avoids the sport becoming boring in the end.
There's complaining from all other sports fan bases. It's just people not able to accept change. They best get a helmet life is real and so is change 😅
You know, i need to say this because it needs to be, the nascar fanbase is one step closer to becoming the NFL fanbase. You know the ones, something exciting happens and the fanbase has to bitch about it on social media because we can't have anything exciting happening.
I’d argue nascar fans are, and have been worse than NFL fans for years. Sure NFL fans will complain about something silly on every play, but Nascar fans won’t even give anything a chance before it has a chance to play out.
Honestly anytime a network or sponsor can add value to the sport. I see it as a win. The teams are already not profitable; to help them and the sport grow, I welcome more of these things. I'm all for change if it does nothing but good things for NASCAR. Crying and whining does no good, for instance, even though I hate the current playoff format, I'm still a fan, and I'll still watch the playoffs. If we give it a chance before shooting it down, we might be grateful we kept an open mind. If viewership skyrocket's, that's a definite win for all of us. This could very well bring some very notable sponsors back to the sport that we absolutely need.
I don’t care about this. I don’t need it, because I enjoy racing. But it also doesn’t bother me, because I can still watch the race. Actually, they should do more stuff like this to satisfy the “entertainment” aspect and give us back our full-season points system. You could have the stupid playoff and just crown a playoff champion and still have a legitimate season champion.
To be honest I’m pretty interested to see this in season tournament might be interesting to see if an underdog driver can win it all instead of the obvious favorites.
I kind of agree with people that are mad Nascar is put behind paywalls and cable channels. I have Hulu live TV and no cable but my job sometimes has me out in middle of no where with no service. I can't watch the races if it isn't on local broadcast I can get with an antenna, and before anyone says anything no, I can't afford starlink or tracking dish for satellite tv.
The in season tournament and streaming services add ons are the best add ons this sport has seen in years but people are just terrible they will complain about everything and cry and cry but thats just what they do they are never happy about anything they just conplain, whine, and cry. Now what NASCAR needs to do and i understand why people complain about this, NASCAR needs to fix the damn Next Gen Car.
I couldn't agree more. I don't hear anyone complaining about Xfinity dash for cash but for whatever reason this is a issue...? Then when it comes to the Amazon deal im sure it's the 50+ year old crowd that's mainly doing the complaining. The sad reality for them is that NASCAR isn't catering to them. Dipping their toe into streaming is a good move because that's where the younger demographic is at and NASCAR desperately needs to capture that audience. We all know nascar usually makes a lot of dumb decisions but when it comes to these 2 things their actually good moves.
Any thing new or different, and the "core" nascar fan base scream. Toyota comes in, they scream. Internet streaming, they scream. Black drivers or women drivers, they scream. I go to a race wearing Pride merch in Phoenix, and they scream (and try to get me kicked out, which made me laugh.) Honestly, its just funny at this point.
As a dirt late model guy, it gives me Summer Nationals vibes. A mid summer championship inside a championship. And if you're not familiar, drivers and fans LOVE Summer Nationals!
You’re going to have the older generational fans pissed because they normally don’t use new age tech and tolerate cable. You can’t strip them of their right to be irritated because they aren’t tech savvy. I don’t have Amazon Prime so I’ll do what I normally do and just listen to it on the radio, for free, while I’m out working in my shop.
The South Park theme killed me 🤣1000% accurate. I see no problem with the mid-season tournament. Honestly I think some of the people complaining just hate Hamlin, so anything good he does, they hate. That’s coming from a Hamlin hater. I love his idea though. It spices up a typically bland time of the year and might make some racing more interesting. I see no negatives to it. If you stop watching because of that tournament, we never wanted you in the sport to begin with.
How about instead of having the playoffs we go back to the season long points format and have this cool knockout tournament at the end of the year to help with ratings if the championship is decided a few races early
The only reason I ever made a Twitter account was to follow the Nascar Drivers. I quickly became tired of all the complaining from the "fans". A lot of people who whine just need to tie bricks to their feet and go swim in the ocean. Nice video. Thanks for sharing!
I agree with you, there are legit things to complain about. This is not one of them. It’s just for money it affects nothing on the racetrack. Give it a chance. I would be shocked if you don’t know who your favorite driver is up against that week and you pay attention to that.
One idea I just realized. So we have the problem with people wrecking others for wins in the playoffs. We hate it. But guess what? If you have two people who are in an in-season round against each other racing for the win, the same damn thing is gonna happen. Don't come crying to me when this shit doesn't work, cause I promise you it wont
The problem *isn't* this idea itself; It's the fact NASCAR continues to ignore it's *actual* problems while creating new ones with gimmicks literally nobody asked for.
I think people would accept this more if we didn't already have the playoffs as they are. I can sympathize with the reaction of having another gimmick (even if it was a gimmick from the past that they brought back) stacked on top of the sport.
It's not a gimmick from the past; it's yet another example of copying ball sports without a single thought from a board of directors that know nothing about motorsports.
As a fan of both NASCAR and F1, I agree pretty much 100% with both your opinions on these matters. When I first heard of this new idea, my initial reaction was, "Oh, cool. Let's see how this goes." That still stands. As a UK fan the whole streaming vs cable thing is a moot point, as I have to pay for a separate channel entirely via my satellite provider, but it will be interesting to see how it pans out.
only one thing: from 0:07 to 0:17 if you hear that noise those are people who don't really know Nascar. My only question from this would be if the streaming services agree in any way with several of us with the fact that the Gen 7 needs a little tweek in short tracks. Apart from that, there is no complaint from me.
No they want people to watch FS1 AND That's why they have had 6 cup series races plus the allstar race on FS1 the last 10 years and next year only 5 of 14 not on FS1
I always think that I'm a curmudgeony purist about NASCAR, but the fans make me look like a dang progressive when it comes to what they complain about.
The Coke 600 has been on Fox not on cable for many years. The over the air Fox will have more people that can watch it than Amazon Prime as long as Fox is around so that was a really bad comparison. Getting rib of cable won't stop most people from being able to watch Fox.
On one hand, I see your point. On the other hand, a lot of people could be on the road for Memorial Day, and may not have anywhere to watch it if they're traveling during that time. So Amazon Prime having it could be more beneficial for the race, as there will be more viewership for the race.
God forbid NASCAR does something different than “how it was done when Dale was racing” Times of changed, can’t just stay with cable because a lot of people are leaving it The in season tournament is an amazing idea, makes you feel like you NEED to watch every race
BFM, I agree: NASCAR fans need to (a) calm the f down and (b) at least give the concept a chance. I still remember Winston's No Bull 5 and that was pretty good - it didn't affect the points system and it added an incentive to try and win races. The reason I think everyone BMW's (bitch-whine-moan) about NASCAR is that, after Matt Kenseth whooped the field to hell and back in 2003 despite winning what, one solitary race, they changed the points system (which I thought at the beginning was dumb, nowadays as long as the racing's good, I'm like "meh!"). Sports change over time - not everything can be as cut and dried as English Premier League soccer and its' "most points win, period" mantra (and if you think NASCAR fans can be whiny as hell at times, go propose anything U.S. sports related to EPL fans...and watch the fireworks go off in response!).
I remember when Dodger Co owner Todd Boehly bought Chelsea, he thought the EPL having an all star game would be a cool concept to have. You swear from the reaction of social media he was proposing lighting babies and puppies on fire.
Now, some may complain about this "Coke 600 being on Amazon Prime Video is a bad move", which I'd say I agree to an extent but, looking at the other streaming platforms DIRTVision, FloRacing, and RacingAmerica... They really need to think of the positives of this. World of Outlaws would've died off, and not have a lot of views if it wasn't for DIRTVision, and iRacing promoting them, those local short track guys, and the ARCA West & East Division drivers wouldn't have TV time if it wasn't for FloRacing help broadcasting their races, and not even the Joe Shear Memorial Race wouldn't be a must watch if it wasn't for RacingAmerica. And sure, there was FloRacing who could've taken them but, in the end NASCAR is gonna be NASCAR, let them make the TV decision, plus they've made a really good decision on getting a good gaming publisher like iRacing, they just need to fix the NextGen car, and their short track package.
Fans: “We want more road courses to the schedule!” NASCAR: *adds more road courses* Fans: “reeeeeeeeeee there’s too many road courses! Fans: “I want closer racing and smaller teams to run up front.” NASCAR: *brings in a spec car to develop closer racing and help smaller teams race up front* Fans: “reeeeeee let teams build their own cars!” Fans: “we need more OEMS.” NASCAR: *In talks with more OEMs* Fans: “reeeeeee not that one!” Or “reeeeeee they wanna take muh V8 away for dem woke electric shiz!” Especially the OEM part. Was listening to Dale Jr. talk to Elton Sawyer and ALL the comments were just an angry mob that would like nothing but anything bad to happen to the guy. One comment was like “Sawyer should be arrested for killing stock car racing!” Like wut!? And then of course ya got the typical “NASCAR died when Dale died!” And “I’m done if NASCAR goes electric!” Like bruh then why r u here!? Like Sawyer was talking about how they’re looking if it’s possible running different engine types and then try to balance em. Like hell yeah, that’d be something cool to see. NASCAR needs to move away from the old cast iron block push rod V8 that no manufacturer uses slightly outside of pickups and American muscle cars. Plus it’s not like there won’t be engines that have the same growl as a NASCAR pushrod V8. Look at the Cadillac in IMSA and WEC, which btw is hybrid too.
People have the right to complain about exclusive streaming, I am not a fan of exclusive streaming, I rather have options to watch TV, streaming, or both. I am only paying Xfinity and Peacock. I do not wanna be the kind of people that pays random streaming platforms left and right, which basically makes it cable 2.0 with prices increasing. I have Peacock, so I sadly have to deal with that part.... I still rather have crown jewel races on big TV. The 600 is a big race and it is a must watch race for anybody on TV, not exclusive streaming. Streaming back then in the 2010s was a lot better. Oh well, thank god for piracy! Also Amazon Prime is $15, which is expensive for a streaming platform, so I'll pass. Time to be a pirate. But Xfinity modernizes cable by having TV AND streaming platforms. Even Hulu has some normal TV channels, which is cheaper, I think, and even UA-cam TV is cheaper than all the cable providers. But exclusive streaming, not a fan of....
Frankly I think this is definitely a logical decision when looking at it from a business perspective. You've got a new broadcast partner in TNT, and they'll wanna do something different to make them stick out. Things like the Winston Million were highly successful. That way I see it, this could very well get NASCAR in tune with the modern times relatively speaking
No comment. I agree with Some of what you say and some I don't. NASCAR fan since the late 80s, I don't like the points/playoff system but definitely see the comparison to the nobull/Winston million. All other complaints aside, the short track package needs attention. I love short tracks!
Thank you for making this video. We really need a cold, hard dose of reality. NASCAR fans really do love to complain. One other example of this was when a few of the track logos were being changed and fans were absolutely livid. News flash: The logos changing isn’t going to affect anything with the racing aspect of things. But no, “fans” just have to say something. I’ve dealt with lots of toxic F1 fans recently, but guess the one thing I’ve dealt with more of. That’s right! Toxic NASCAR “fans”
I don't mind them trying things. I think it is a cool idea. The season has been basically no one cares about the middle races. So it gives a little boost to those races that they desperately need. And if we are never getting rid of the playoff system. We need to create more of these things to help with the drivers having an incentive to win outside of just making playoffs. In fact I would like to see more of these type of things. (or get rid of the playoffs and get back to a strictly points based system again)
NASCAR fans freaking out over this isn't surprising given the fact they thought the world was ending over the position of the numbers changing on the doors. God help us if honda gets their way and uses a twin turbo V6 instead of the standard pushrod v8 and NASCAR introduces BOP.
That South Park intro is the most brutally honest, unapologetic and savage sum-ups of toxic NASCAR fans I’ve ever seen. BFM just full on *roasted* the toxic fans, and frankly, I ❤️ it. BFM, I raise my can of Pepsi to you.
I don’t got a problem with a in-season tournament as a concept. But as a fan, I really don’t think I will care for it all that much while it’s happening. That’s how I felt about the NBA tournament. My main focus will be on who’s winning and who might possibly be good throughout the race
I agree to many snowflakes have joined in on NASCAR fans & thanks to them almost end it back around 2010, when they got NASCAR to ban rubbing, bumping & that stuff that makes it worth watching, because it was to violent & dangerous for them to watch. they also brought about the cooky cutter cars, because it's unfair that someone else built a better car & therefore had a unfair advantage. Now they are trying to have NASCAR go EV like formula 1 did a few yrs back, save the planet crap. Truth is, if this will get the drivers to be more aggressive & take more risks instead of being lame asses I'm all for it
I understand why fans were quick to freak out about this bracket style competition but for people who have been watching the sport for a long time; it's no different than the DirecTV Head 2 Head Knockout competition that Fox ran during their portion of races in 2010. Drivers 'competed' to beat a driver in their bracket and win a million bucks for charity and if a fan filled their bracket perfectly they won a million too. It literally had NO impact on the racing and the drivers didn't even care about it. In theory this should be the same.
I agree, the tournament bracket is similar to the Winston No Bull 5 and to me, it's going to make the racing a lot more exciting. Geez Louise, NASCAR fans complain about the smallest things nowadays... 😔
I mean this without directly wishing any ill will onto anyone, but I feel like the fanbase will be so much better when the older “NASCAR died with Dale” and the “I remember the good ol’ 70s real racing” crowd die out. Much more the former than the latter, but they are both easily the two biggest black eyes tugging the fanbase down
Darian, I think it's ironic that Denny's idea is being used during the TNT broadcasts, while Dale Jr. owner of Dirty Mo Media, is going to be in the booth. 🤔 Anyway, loved Denny's Bracket Challenge last year and will doing again this year.
i think the fact that it was "Denny's idea" coaxed some people who would've been on the fence otherwise into the crowd that hates it. Like, seriously if y'all want Denny out of his, imo very entertaining, villain arc then stop giving him the attention he's using to keep it going. He knows we need a heel in the sport and without him, or stuff like this "GiMmIcK", NASCAR would be a lot less entertaining to a lot of people, even if they don't realize it. you're still allowed to not like him and root against him, but like...chill, you don't know the guy so stop acting like it's personal
Honestly the tournament thing is one of the few gimmicks of late that I am actually pretty cool with. The deal with the 600 less so because up till last year streaming in my area was a struggle with the speeds available.
i don't get that side of the fanbase sometimes, like the Winston No Bull 5 is literally gonna be reincarnated and y'all hate it needless to say, i like this tournament
In-season tournament to spice up the summer races- ✅ One race to decide the championship-❌ The races mid June through Daytona drag along. Since most of the playoff drivers have a sticker. I definitely liked the sprint summer showdown, no bull 5, and dash for cash events that have been run in the past. This should provide much needed action during this part of the season.
I honestly would love to have this replace the playoff format. That way it'll give the drivers that are out of the championship running something to fight for.
As it's own thing going on during the season, this would be pretty fun. It's not really gimmick since it's not some sneak to the championship. Personally, i would like to see a true points system, but i would still take this with it. In a way it would give you a "best of both worlds."
I would be freaking mad if this was implemented as a way to determine a champion. But as it's kind of a bonus, racing for money while still getting normal points etc it's really ok

Yeah, seeing it gives me March Madness vibes. Should be fun to watch.
They might as well call it "The Denny Hamlin Bracket" because it was technically his idea
Does this mean we get a “what if NASCAR had a in-season tournament” in xxxx year cause I’d watch that on UA-cam
Thanks for the shoutout on my comment! I certainly agree with you on everything you said in this video as well.
Remember when UrinatingTree called the Xfinity Dash 4 Cash a gimmick? Pepridge Farms remembers.
man, I don't remember
Okay this is cool but i still want a full points format im tired of hearing “playoffs” from race 26-36 it gets annoying lol
Point proven.
How about instead of having the playoffs we go back to the season long points format and have this cool knockout tournament at the end of the year to help with ratings if the championship is decided a few races early
Congrats for proving BFM right.
They going to cry about everything
This system is still better than the stupid playoff format
The only reason I ever made a Twitter account was to follow the Nascar Drivers. I quickly became tired of all the complaining from the "fans". A lot of people who whine just need to tie bricks to their feet and go swim in the ocean. Nice video. Thanks for sharing!
I agree with you, there are legit things to complain about. This is not one of them.
It’s just for money it affects nothing on the racetrack. Give it a chance. I would be shocked if you don’t know who your favorite driver is up against that week and you pay attention to that.
Oh Wow South Park On Black Flag Matters Channel
The opening just summed up what nascar fan’s do when nascar literally does anything 😂
I like this idea TNT wants to make a splash in the summer series in 2025. BTW RIP Inside the NBA
Hey Darian, a lot of NASCAR fans are too freakin nostalgic to move on and embrace ANYTHING new in NASCAR!😊
As a fan of both NASCAR and F1, I agree pretty much 100% with both your opinions on these matters. When I first heard of this new idea, my initial reaction was, "Oh, cool. Let's see how this goes." That still stands. As a UK fan the whole streaming vs cable thing is a moot point, as I have to pay for a separate channel entirely via my satellite provider, but it will be interesting to see how it pans out.
only one thing:
from 0:07 to 0:17
if you hear that noise those are people who don't really know Nascar.
My only question from this would be if the streaming services agree in any way with several of us with the fact that the Gen 7 needs a little tweek in short tracks.
Apart from that, there is no complaint from me.
Fox wants us to watch bowling and dog shows.
I think people complain too much about the gen 7 car! Gen 7 just needs more power at road courses and short tracks!
God forbid NASCAR does something different than “how it was done when Dale was racing”
Times of changed, can’t just stay with cable because a lot of people are leaving it
The in season tournament is an amazing idea, makes you feel like you NEED to watch every race
You Dadgum Right.
Solution, WATCH INDYCAR, And Formula 1. Like, Freakin, SERIOUSLY!!!
Fans: “We want more road courses to the schedule!”
NASCAR: *adds more road courses*
Fans: “reeeeeeeeeee there’s too many road courses!
Fans: “I want closer racing and smaller teams to run up front.”
NASCAR: *brings in a spec car to develop closer racing and help smaller teams race up front*
Fans: “reeeeeee let teams build their own cars!”
Fans: “we need more OEMS.”
NASCAR: *In talks with more OEMs*
Fans: “reeeeeee not that one!” Or “reeeeeee they wanna take muh V8 away for dem woke electric shiz!”
Especially the OEM part.
Bro, they'd complain if we went back to Winston cup points, and their favorite driver finished 6th in points while having 8 wins
That's what they wanted with the Gen 6
Thank you for making this video. The intro was spot on lol.
Cable is a pay wall. Lol
Even if it isn't twin turbos Honda's not going to build a push rod engine
@@johnhaas2523 oh I know
That South Park intro is the most brutally honest, unapologetic and savage sum-ups of toxic NASCAR fans I’ve ever seen. BFM just full on *roasted* the toxic fans, and frankly, I ❤️ it. BFM, I raise my can of Pepsi to you.
This is a BFM video not the Iceberg lmfao.
@@Dardev123 Fixed it, thank you
Certain NASCAR fans are like the one friend who is never happy with anything
I don’t got a problem with a in-season tournament as a concept. But as a fan, I really don’t think I will care for it all that much while it’s happening. That’s how I felt about the NBA tournament. My main focus will be on who’s winning and who might possibly be good throughout the race
It feels like a rite of passage that GatoradeCupSeriesX94 is in a complaint video. Dude can’t enjoy anything
Or DrSamWPepper
I agree to many snowflakes have joined in on NASCAR fans & thanks to them almost end it back around 2010, when they got NASCAR to ban rubbing, bumping & that stuff that makes it worth watching, because it was to violent & dangerous for them to watch. they also brought about the cooky cutter cars, because it's unfair that someone else built a better car & therefore had a unfair advantage.
Now they are trying to have NASCAR go EV like formula 1 did a few yrs back, save the planet crap.
Truth is, if this will get the drivers to be more aggressive & take more risks instead of being lame asses I'm all for it
The planet is going to shit, plums. There right for saying that. You made a ton of good points up right to that. Grow up
I understand why fans were quick to freak out about this bracket style competition but for people who have been watching the sport for a long time; it's no different than the DirecTV Head 2 Head Knockout competition that Fox ran during their portion of races in 2010. Drivers 'competed' to beat a driver in their bracket and win a million bucks for charity and if a fan filled their bracket perfectly they won a million too. It literally had NO impact on the racing and the drivers didn't even care about it. In theory this should be the same.
Million for the team makes them care very much.
It's just a modern take on the Winston Million I dont know what people are mad about.
A real nascar fan here and the complaining about this in season tournament is very annoying and I like the idea, calm down!
i think the fact that it was "Denny's idea" coaxed some people who would've been on the fence otherwise into the crowd that hates it.
Sometimes, it's hard to be a Nascar Fan.
i don't get that side of the fanbase sometimes, like the Winston No Bull 5 is literally gonna be reincarnated and y'all hate it
needless to say, i like this tournament
In-season tournament to spice up the summer races- ✅
One race to decide the championship-❌
The races mid June through Daytona drag along.
It's not replacing the playoffs
I agree with you Darian!
Wow don’t expect two of my comments to be on this video 😂😂
As it's own thing going on during the season, this would be pretty fun. It's not really gimmick since it's not some sneak to the championship.
Personally, i would like to see a true points system, but i would still take this with it. In a way it would give you a "best of both worlds."
0:17
I think the short track racing is fine.
The rules keeping the drivers from having real personalities is the problem.
I would be freaking mad if this was implemented as a way to determine a champion. But as it's kind of a bonus, racing for money while still getting normal points etc it's really ok
