Damn, $60,000 for a GR Corolla Circuit edition in Canada. That car is only $44000 in America. Man I’m proud to be an American 😂😂. All joking aside, I did try to put a deposit down on a Circuit edition, but these cars are basically un-obtainium. I wouldn’t fault anyone for getting the Golf R over this, but like Zach said, if you buy the GR Corolla you essentially get to drive the car for free because should you ever choose to sell it, you WILL be getting ALL your money back.
The base BMW B48 Supra is so much more car. A quick JB+ / JB4 piggy/tune and you'll never remember deciding between the two. The GR Corolla should be a $38K CDN car where its performance envelope makes sense.
Today's Corolla hatch is like a Matrix built to 3/4 scale. I would like to know where Toyota gets the data that proves North Americans have gotten thinner and shorter in the last 10 years. 🤨
This car is great for Toyota fans and I’m glad it exists. However, especially in Canada, the golf r is simply superior in every conceivable way. More power. More tune/mod friendly. More comfortable. More spacious. More features (by a LOT). Nicer quality. Better suspension, etc. If you wanted a die hard track focused light weight car the CTR is superior as well. Again though, I’m very glad it exists.
Great cars if your road's pavement is smooth. Unfortunately, the sad truth is that between snow, rain pooling, and potholed roadways it's hard to enjoy these vehicles without constantly scraping the bottom. Toyota GR Corolla's ground clearance is 5.3 inches, VW Golf R is 4.7. Great in a perfect setting, but not so much in the real world! 🤔

yeah, it's centuries for the Golf, not decades like for the Corolla, which will be all rusted out in only a few, and with the typical oil drinking for Toyota and terrible turbo engines, one with less cylinders will only shorten the unremarkable longevity of modern, post 90s Toyota cars.

~20 years ago I wanted a new STI. It was right around $50k in Canada. Focus RS was $60k 6 years ago. So this car to be priced at 45.5k msrp is fair. This thing isn’t expensive at MSRP. Just have to be patient and wait.

Nobody is buying this car for gadgets, luxury and features. It’s all about performance on a budget. Frankly I’d like to see it even more stripped down to lessen the price and lower the curb weight. I’d love to see a type r vs gr corolla comparison.
I went with a Golf R. I didn’t even bother looking at a 50K Corolla. It's too slow in a straight line. It's too cheap inside, and its track performance isn't good enough for me to look over everything it's missing. A tuned Golf R can push 400hp. You can't really tune the Corolla. Toyota didn't leave enough on the bone. All these reviews say they like the GR better, but none of them are buying them. It makes me think Toyota is paying to get these favorable reviews.
Comparing the interior noise level to the Ford Lighting you just reviewed is instructive, especially since I'll bet a drag race between the two would be a no-contest win for the F*rd. Wallet closed. Hey, I'm old. :)
No need to be young, my supersonic red GRC is arriving next month and I'm 59 years young. Remember you're only as old as you feel. Age is just a number.
I get it I really do but having had multiple hot hatches in my 35 years of driving I currently drive a BMW 3 touring diesel .. I'd take the golf R and live with the brutal mmi interface.
I noticed that it was quite loud in your recording. Not sure but I would take a Golf R or a WRX long before a souped up corolla. Even a souped up Supranational would be way better.

Toyota said they're increasing production for 2024. I think they will make this car for at least 5 years. Otherwise they would be merely breaking even on their investment.
It will happen just be patient. The economy will slowdown and with interest rates high they won't be selling these cars like before.Don't forget that wealthy people don't buy Toyota or VW products and the average buyer of these cars are middle class who are getting hit hard by rising interest rates on their mortgages.

Hopefully your car arrives on time and is a blast for years to come. 😁
This GR is generating so much buzz! Really good job sticking to your formula, not buying into the buzz only. My question is will this have a halo effect on the more pedestrian Corolla hatchback? Or other mainstream Toyotas.
Almost $60k for a three cylinder heavily boosted engine above 25 psi and you guys are praising it as though it will be some sort of collector car...this was Toyota's chance to build a high-revving NA 4-cylinder engine and they missed it. At least it sounds decent.

Glad you liked it! We sure did get a lot of snow, it's all melting now which we are both happy about. We are heading to California on Wednesday to drive the Subaru Solterra so it will be nice to get some sunshine.
As an enthusiast package, the GRC is the winner in my opinion over the Golf R. I can't stand VW's infotainment and capacitive controls, so that's a non-starter. The Golf's manual transmission also feels a bit flimsy and disconnected so that's another issue I have with it. The Toyota is the far more special car with its old-school vibe, plus it should be much more reliable too. The dull interior is a sore point but who knows, maybe they're listening and will spruce it up for next model year. The main problem is dealer markup if you live in the U.S. A fully loaded Core with some accessories comes out to around $40k which is a good price in my opinion. It's certainly not worth a heavy markup, though.
both the subaru and hyundai are much better values for your money. plus, there is the kona n with more room and lower costs, and hyundai has better warranty also. 🤑👍💰
Toyota's manufacturing process seem very adaptable. One minute they're making specialized limited production race car and the next, it could be mechanized killing machines (LOL). Anyways, very adaptive system which makes more sense when long term survivability is preferred over quick profits.
Being that I am a former Toyota Matrix owner who always wanted more performance from it, I really want this GR Corolla! Due to the limited availability and crazy markups, will probably end up with a golf r or an integra type s.

Hi Team Motormouth, The GR Corolla reminds me of the guy who finished second to Usain Bolt when he smashed the world record. The GR Corolla is world class but the champion and real deal is the GR Yaris. 👏👏👏👏
Isn't there a Honda Civic type R, that's similar, not cheap? A videao shot from a headlamp view with your hands on the wheel would give a better feel for driving this car around hairpin turns. Where did the snow come from?
Besides the very bad interior of the MK8 Golf R, the R is faster, has a bigger engine, gets better mpg’s, is more practical, doesn’t feel like you’re stepping inside a base model $20k car, and lastly, is a lot cheaper. Golf R ftw
For over $50,000 I'd buy a used Porsche Macan!!! That little thing with no luxury isn't worth the cost! Who's got 50 grand to put out on manual transmission that looks like a cheaper car??? Great video guys!!! I love seeing the spark in Andrea's eyes hitting the gas pedal!!🤣🤣🤣
It would really be nice if Canadians got more choice in automobiles. There's so many vehicles sold in Japan and Europe we don't get here in Canada and if Canadians did get them we would be happier as we would cars closer to what we want/ need
USA and Canadian pricing is so odd on these vehicles. The GRC and EN are a terrible price in Canada compared to US pricing. WRX is an amazing value in Canada compared to US pricing.
We're all being duped by all the car companies with these prices and limited editions especially. There is no doubt this car is cool, but not at the prices at sticker then add dealer markup, it's a joke. The materials are cheap and let's all remember it's a Corolla. If you want to spend this much on a Corolla and you're fine with it, have fun.

Other than the price, my main gripe is the size. It's a bit more cramped than I would prefer.
Today's Corolla hatch is like a Matrix built to 3/4 scale. I would like to know where Toyota gets the data that proves North Americans have gotten
thinner and shorter in the last 10 years. 🤨
Great video 🙂
This car is great for Toyota fans and I’m glad it exists. However, especially in Canada, the golf r is simply superior in every conceivable way. More power. More tune/mod friendly. More comfortable. More spacious. More features (by a LOT). Nicer quality. Better suspension, etc. If you wanted a die hard track focused light weight car the CTR is superior as well. Again though, I’m very glad it exists.
I think a wrx is a better daily awd for much less at market cost. But I do love the gr if I can find one at msrp.
But very fugly.
Wrx probably better for a family. But it doesn't have the looks or cool factor of the GR.
Golf for me thank you, although the Toyota is a very nice car the Golf has the style I prefer. Cheers.
True. And VW makes it worse by going with stupid 35mm sidewall tires.
@@edwardzdankiewicz9068 VW's specs for the Type R: Summer performance tires, 235/35 R19, 91Y... 35 is the Aspect Ratio which equates to a sidewall dimension of 82.25 mm. The US spec Toyota GR states: "235/40R18 Michelin® Pilot® Sport 4 high-performance summer tires *" which equates to a sidewall dimension of 94 mm.
Nice car! Will last decades unlike a VW Golf
yeah, it's centuries for the Golf, not decades like for the Corolla, which will be all rusted out in only a few, and with the typical oil drinking for Toyota and terrible turbo engines, one with less cylinders will only shorten the unremarkable longevity of modern, post 90s Toyota cars.
@@Brian-jv8iy lol nonsense VW = junk
@@Brian-jv8iy that’s funny because every VW has rust around the hatch, badges and rocker panels and meanwhile there’s more 30 year old Toyotas on the road than any other vehicle 😂
@@Brian-jv8iystory checks out, Corolla will be rusted out far before the golf cus the golf’s gonna stay in the mechanics garage for its whole life unlike the Corolla. Thanks guy 👍
Zach and Andrea, motors with such small displacement but achieving 300 HP must mean longevity of the motor might be an issue. No?
I'd trust Toyota over say, Ford, VW, Subaru
~20 years ago I wanted a new STI. It was right around $50k in Canada. Focus RS was $60k 6 years ago. So this car to be priced at 45.5k msrp is fair. This thing isn’t expensive at MSRP. Just have to be patient and wait.
STI was $50k 20 years ago? I find that very hard to believe. Focus RS was never $60k. Stop it.
Barely more expensive than a Prius these days :)
You're prices are off.
@@r3games1985 I am prices?
I’m quoting Canada prices.
@@janoycresnova9156 I just replied to you with links, but now I can’t see it. Maybe links aren’t allowed
2004 STI MSRP was $46,995 plus freight and pdi, which is more than GR Corolla today
2018 Focus RS was $59,000 plus Freight and PDI.
Easy to double check if you wish. Again this is Canadian prices, but I’m sure if you’re from USA you can check go see what 2004 STi cost then vs GR Corolla today.
Its great looking and will be fun to drive. However pricey and add dealer extra fees, and markups, its way too much…
That's a Hot hatch for sure! Ahhh to be young again 🔥
That's there target ..
Young and rich. In the US these are selling for way over MSRP.
No need to be young, my supersonic red GRC is arriving next month and I'm 59 years young.
Remember you're only as old as you feel.
Age is just a number.
Not doubt it’s the best one in the segment .
Nice job!
I'm sure many Golf R owners would disagree :)
Love everything about it, but that rear fender..🥴
I get it I really do but having had multiple hot hatches in my 35 years of driving I currently drive a BMW 3 touring diesel .. I'd take the golf R and live with the brutal mmi interface.
At least one guy in the comments gets it. You can buy a base BMW for 50 grand with 4 versus 3 cylinders.
And Golf R😂loss +50% Resale in the first 3 years over the GR Corolla.
I wanna get one to satisfy my small-ish fast car needs but it might be too fast for my wife to use lol
Andrea gives every car an Italian tune-up
I would buy this car. I would lease the Golf R.
I noticed that it was quite loud in your recording. Not sure but I would take a Golf R or a WRX long before a souped up corolla. Even a souped up Supranational would be way better.
Hi Scott!
Thank you for the video.... please I want Ask of something that my is shifting to only gear 3 and anytime it's changing to gear 4 it will jack with even some noice BUM..... please help whether its also a solenoids???
the wait time for a Golf R is two years and the Gr if you didnt order one forget about it so neither of them
Like a BOSS 💪
Toyota said they're increasing production for 2024. I think they will make this car for at least 5 years. Otherwise they would be merely breaking even on their investment.
Maybe we can actually get one of these or a Golf R at MSRP sometime this year and not at crazy markups! doubt it though
It will happen just be patient. The economy will slowdown and with interest rates high they won't be selling these cars like before.Don't forget that wealthy people don't buy Toyota or VW products and the average buyer of these cars are middle class who are getting hit hard by rising interest rates on their mortgages.
I honestly wouldn't pay MSRP for this or Golf R. MSRP is about 10k overpriced. I have no desire to drop $60k total on some riced out econo hatch
@@janoycresnova9156 good thing the msrp isn’t 60k
I'm getting a supersonic red GRC at MSRP in Canada 🇨🇦 next month.
@@dougmaverick3287 congratulations man! It’s gonna be an awesome car. A lot of people don’t realize that even though the car industry is fucked right now, you still CAN get cars at MSRP. It just depends how bad the dealership wants to make the sale. You got to hold strong when negotiating. I’m glad to hear it worked out for you.
Sadly, any chance of the GR adding a halo effect to the regular Corolla hatch evaporated when Toyota dropped the manual transmission for 2023. 🤨
The Mazda3 Sport GT Turbo would be another to consider.
Almost $60k for a three cylinder heavily boosted engine above 25 psi and you guys are praising it as though it will be some sort of collector car...this was Toyota's chance to build a high-revving NA 4-cylinder engine and they missed it. At least it sounds decent.
WOW! I never see so much snow in Vancouver! Oh Zack is not wearing a double seat belts? Just kidding. 😆 Nice sport car with not much features. Not surprisingly, it’s a basic sport car. Great video Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻☕️☕️
Glad you liked it! We sure did get a lot of snow, it's all melting now which we are both happy about. We are heading to California on Wednesday to drive the Subaru Solterra so it will be nice to get some sunshine.
@@andreaspencer9813 Yes it’s nice to visit California to get a nice warm sun. 👍🏻👍🏻
I'd like one, but if you can't get one, its kind of a moot point...
Definitely not for me but, fun to watch... I'm sure there are those who will love it.
both the subaru and hyundai are much better values for your money.
plus, there is the kona n with more room and lower costs, and hyundai has better warranty also. 🤑👍💰
Golf R is way too common at car meets and events. GR corolla will draw crowds. Its a unicorn. Way more reliable too.
Toyota if you want one to last more than a couple of years.
Have you tried any version of the current Corolla hatch? It is tiny compared to the Matrix.
@@rightlanehog3151 No, I have not tried one. Try to stay off car lots to stay out of trouble! Currently daily drive a WRX so I love AWD but I miss my matrix.
@@jerryreid813 I was reminded how small the Corolla hatch is when I parked my Vibe beside one yesterday. The roof line is 5-6 inches lower and storage behind the second row is about half the size. To be fair, the new model is far more sophisticated with independent rear suspension and a more powerful engine. Too bad Toyota dropped the manual transmission for 2023.
"Different and Quirky," I think he's talking about Andrea 😄
Yeah, this Corolla ain’t a boring car anymore.
The physical controls of the GR Corolla, but the bigger space and packaging of the Golf R. Sigh, the perfect car doesn't exist.
I’m sad that. In AMERICA they mark this up 10,000. 😢
From what I've seen and heard,,,they're are way too many issues about people complaining about the haptic crap on the VWR. Me personally,,give me the Toyota anyday. Toyota reliability wins everytime.
I was hoping for a 2.0 turbo to compete with honda type R. But the 1.6 sounds like a V6.
This car is unattainable because of the crazy dealer mark-up, when it's actually available that is.
🇺🇸 gr will be like the 90s Supra.... will only increase in value!
Cool little car, but for that amount of money I would be more inclined to spend few more bucks and get a Supra…just my $.02
The rear end is too funky for me.
Kardashian esque
Based only on exterior styling, Golf R for me.
Who on earth would spend $60,000 to say you drive a Corolla. You can get a Supra for that!
So I feel the need to chime in to say that the infotainment system is good. Very responsive on mine and hasn’t dropped connection or been reluctant to connect to my phone when I restart the car. Maybe you two got a dud?
