It's that time of the year again! With 2024 rapidly approaching, I wanted to sit down and share 24 things I'm not buying in 2024. These have to do with minimalism and saving money, but this isn't meant to be a strict list that I absolutely have to stick to, no matter what. I use this more as a guideline to help me make intentional purchasing decisions. :) And of course, these aren't the only things I stopped buying as a minimalist, but rather a list of certain items that I wanted to put some extra attention on for myself. Enjoy the video and feel free to take inspiration from my list, to identify some things you want to do a low-buy or no-buy for next year!
    Lots of love,

Thanks for watching, everyone! 🤗 These 24 things aren't really the only things I've stopped buying as a minimalist, there's a list that's a LOT longer than this for things I actually never (or very rarely) buy, but rather a list of certain items that I wanted to put some extra attention on for myself. This isn't meant to be a strict list that I absolutely have to stick to no matter what, but rather something to help me make intentional purchasing decisions in the year to come. :) Feel free to take inspiration from my list, to identify some things you also want to do a no-buy or low-buy for next year! Good list - I agree completely with AI assistants. I just got my first new laptop and smart phone so I can start prepping for my first business. The first thing I did was turn off the AI assistants. As for the aging stuff - you're already doing the best thing to help with aging - listening to your body and taking care of it. I'm almost 50, and the biggest regret I have re. my body is not listening to it when I was over stressed (the biggest factor I think to looking older). I am grateful I have always had a minimalist approach to skincare - very much less is more (incl. no cosmetic procedures). Keeping hydrated helps a lot too, esp. as I age. I would like to try more vegan meals, esp. since I'm trying to eat more veggies and fruits. I tried going vegan (for same reasons) when I was 15 but only lasted a few months. I did keep vegetarian for almost a year then too. I'm too much an omnivore foodie and crave fish/meat when I do try to go vegetarian. I know it's been decades for you, but do you have any suggestions to not have the cravings? I like vegan food, but struggle with eating lots of beans (for the protein which I need a good amount of). Sorry so long a response - thanks! - take care

I low-buy anyway so I don't have a list. In fact, sometimes I have to consciously force myself to buy something because I've been thinking about it for a long time, or I'm on vacation so I should splurge a bit, or I haven't bought anything for a long time so occasionally is OK.

about the robot vacuum, at first I bought one that bothered me 'cause I also thought it wasn't that smart and then I realized it was because it didn't had the technology I was looking for which was a good mapping system to make it really autonomous - it didn't knew where to go and where it already went so it just randomly walked all over the place, leaving dirt behind and going over some places over and over again with no need for that. I sold that model and invested in a new one, this time really smart 😅, and then it changed my life for good!

I remember when I was young friends were telling me not to smile so much I would get wrinkles. I enjoy smiling and never listened to them. Of course now I am a senior and have nothing but laugh lines. I believe these lines add character. Wrinkles are the roadmap of your life. Everyone wants the fountain of youth. 🌍☮️🌲

Oh, those four words, "aging is a gift," really struck me. I just turned 70 last week and I have to admit that this milestone loomed for me all year. I feel like I'm about 50, I've never gotten any anti-aging treatments, but I still struggled a bit with this one. I love those four words, they are so true and I'm going to keep them close at heart.

@@shreyabanerjee7078 I would say that one big thing that I am focusing on even now (being someone who usually goes a million miles an hour) is to simplify my life in order to have more time and energy to focus on the things that really matter. And maybe the other big thing is that you truly never stop needing to grapple with who you are and what is important in life. Things may quiet down for a while and then life brings you new opportunities and challenges and there you go again, time to reevaluate and make changes as needed. Maybe that helps keep one young?!

I turned 74 this year, feel healthy, and am extremely thankful for the gift of growing older. Yes, "aging is a gift:" both of my parents lived to the age of 94. I chose not to use Botox, but to embrace the signs of a, hopefully, well-lived and grateful life. Take care and I hope you enjoy a blessed Christmas! Thank you for your videos.

I applaud your decision to skip botox and fillers. For starters, you’re naturally beautiful and look flawless from this side of the camera! I also think there is such a stigma to aging. Aging is a natural process and there is nothing wrong with it. I’m 66 and I’d feel like a phony if I still looked 30. I try to take the best care of myself as I can, and I do use retinol and moisturizer. But that’s it. No needles or surgery for me. I’ve earned every line and wrinkle I have. I love the actors who embrace their natural faces, too. But, like you, to each her own. If you opt for medical procedures, you do you.

I really loved the point you made about being grateful for aging & celebrating the fact that we are privileged to age. It reminded me of one of Epicurus' sayings: 'It is not the young person who is most happy, but the old person who has lived beautifully; for despite being at his very peak the young person stumbles around as if he were of many minds, whereas the old person has settled into old age as if in a harbour, secure in his gratitude for the good things he was once unsure of'

You're not alone in your thinking about the smart devices. I happily got them all out of the house. About the fillers and aging, my thoughts are (and perhaps you can talk about this too) that aging women are beautiful, even with uneven skin, wrinkles, and sagging. Youth is celebrated far too much in order to sell things. We've been conditioned that having an older-looking face/body is something we must avoid at all costs. I think we need to re-orient our minds to see the beauty and wisdom in an aged face, and to refute and rebel against this message that we're not good enough unless we look young.

Thank you for a lovely calm and kind channel 👌
Absolutely I'm for more vegan content!
I'm ethically vegan for the animals because we need to be kind to all and I know it's for life, once you know... you really know and I couldn't personally unknow that 🌿
That the side effects are more awareness also on what's "not so simplistic", but infact a mess, is disturbing for the peace of mind.
Being a minimalist myself I can't have a "mess"... on my plate and in my heart ♥
Furthermore being vegan is very sustainable, much cheaper that people think and I like being mindful of where my money goes. I also love plants, they are so vibrant and plentiful. So minding the nature in my city, that is becoming smaller and smaller is getting harder. So taking a stand to reduce it is, at least, personally satisfying. Hope it helps though in my city, my country and the climate that involves and affects us all 😢
That it is healthy is not a bad side effect either 😅
So much more of the vegan stuff, can't get enough, it's inspiring and gives me hope in a sometimes very "cold" and rather selfish world where people is buying entitled meals that others had to "you know" not have the best time of life in order to end up, way to soon... as a hotdog or a burger that easily could have been plant-based!
Like I said, a mess on a plate, which isn't mine 😅, of course... since I already am vegan 💚🌿🕊

I am more confident in who I am created to be without focusing on how I look on the outside but reflecting God on the inside. Your soul is a much better view of beauty 😊 I am embracing a no buy year and determined a budget that reflects using what I have and only replacing essentials. So happy to hear that I am not the only person not seeing the value in all those fancy electronics. I hold the same opinion on Alexa/ Siri as you and always find it weird to hear people talk to them. When it comes to the vacuum robot, believe me, it’s even worse with kids! Having to pull up all the chairs (or move around whatever other furniture) to get a clean result and no stuck robot is enough in itself. But pick up all toys, clothes etc. and make sure no bricks, marbles… are hidden in corners, under the sofa etc. No time saving at all! I sometimes think that people tend to forget - once they have made the purchase - to evaluate the benefits and inconveniences. Honestly, I am back to the broom for my daily evening cleaning because the vacuum is so noisy that I cannot talk to my hubby or listen to music while doing it. I also feel the noise disturbs our winding down process in the evenings. We do have a cordless vacuum for the carpets but all the rest is fine without!

Hi there! Glad you enjoyed the video! Actually, I've found that so many brands on both ends of the spectrum in terms of price, have vegan and cruelty-free products. Some of them may really surprise you. I don't know where you're based, and most products I use aren't really available in the US for example. But what I always do is just a quick google search. Is (insert brand) cruelty-free? Then don't use their own website for information, but use websites like crueltyfreekitty that really know their stuff. It's a quick search that takes 1 minute, and I've been positively surprised so many times by now :)

    - Flatpack furniture: No buy. You can repurpose wood from so many sources, or buy. If you have the tools, make furniture that lasts longer and smells better than their chipboard. Children painted the surface? No problem, as soon as it's dry outside sand it away (and get better coating).
    - Ordering beverages: Yes. Not having a car, just ordering once in four months or so the 100kg+ is more convenient. Plus, I have a variety in my basement to boost my mood. Delivery cost are relatively low on larger orders.
    - Plants: No buy. Exchange seeds and sapplings with friends. (I have jungle with grow-LEDs in what used to be a dark corner in my apt.)
    - Handsoap and hand-cremes: Replaced small purchases with wall-mounted dispensers (used = cheap) and 1l packs. Less waste, too. (Without perfume were better for the skin.)
    - Shower soap: No. A fancy one maybe once a quarter. Though since learning from a dermatologist soap-free mixtures a good enough and better for dry skin, the products from Edeka are good and enough.
    - Kitchen machine: Yes. Rather, sliced and diced groceries: No longer. Since it became more convenient, I cook more.
    - Generally, since buying quality products whenever it's no consumable I saved quite some money over the years and do no longer buy all that much.

Thank you for this inspiring video! Stationary and pens are also on my no/low buy list. I purchased some notebooks and washi tapes this month, and they will last for some time, like all my pens. Furniture and home decor are also on my list, and I plan to declutter all our christmas stuff. Some thins are broken, or we do not like them anymore. And it is waaaaay too much. What I definitely will keep up is cash stuffing. I started this year doing it and it already safed me about 200 to 300 Euros per month.
What you said about fitbits and smart fitness devices made me think about the one I owned some years ago. When it broke I did not replace it because I noticed that using these things started to stress me out and making me feel guilty about not moving enough or being "lazy". So, no fitbits for me ever again.
WHat I will buy in the coming time is some clothing because I have gained weight and feel uncomfortable in some of my pieces, so I will replace them. I really want to lose weight, bit it will take time and I do not want to feel like haviing to squeeze myself in all my things and look like nothing really fits me. Yeah, so, snacks and junk food are also on our list.

I got into a buying mood, so here's what one minimalist buys: a colander 3-pack, small air purifier, reacher (a thing to pick up things without bending down), and an out-of-print book... all things I've been thinking about for a while, and the total was under $100. The colanders replace plastic and hand-me-down ones I didn't like, and they catch seeds as well as a juice squeezer does. The air purifier will hopefully help my dust allergies. The reacher is to cope with arthritis in my hips. The book is a little luxury, something from childhood. Next month I may get three more things if I think of any.

@@loguipigui9565 The air smells cleaner and I don't feel particles in my nose anymore. I stopped sneezing for the first few days, then I had an occasional sneeze once or twice a day for a few days, but now it's gone again. I identified that my roommate's deodorant spray and cologne were part of the problem, so I asked him to stop using those, and I bring it out to the main room in the morning and it cleans out those things within an hour. It's a $40 Leviot tabletop model for 250 square feet, with a 3-part filter, but no negative-particle ionizer (it's unclear whether ionizers help). Look for one that has enough capacity for your room size.

As someone who owns a medspa, it’s a misconception that Botox prevents wrinkles. It’s just less obvious a change to start Botox when you have less wrinkles present, than correcting the ones you have. But if you stop using Botox the wrinkles will come back. It’s like getting a haircut. If you always cut your hair, no one notices your short hair. But if you had long hair, and all of a sudden you cut it short, people will notice.

❤ this list! I'm with you strongly about cruelty free/vegan products, holiday decor and embracing aging. On another note, I used to have a gym membership but I'm have transportation issues so I had to stop going. If that changes I will probably go again. With my employment schedule and trying to use public transit it just would not work currently. It would be too crowded during the times I could squeeze in a session and that defeats the purpose of going.
Also, I would love for you to share more on your journey into veganism. Veganism is what led me to minimalist, fair trade and eco-centric ways of living.

BAM! You pretty much mentioned everything that I also won't be buying or haven't bought in so long. There is so much I think as I am getting older that I don't need , I would rather spend my money on experiences . I live a pretty simple life , (well at least according to my standards!). I also cancelled my gym membership about 4 or 5 months ago, I do work outs or stretches at home and all my other exercising consists of walking and or hiking in parks (nature is the best place to get a workout)! I went through my make up stage way back in my teen age years, it didn't last long. I haven't used any make up since than . I believe in natural beauty so why hide it with make up. I do use hand lotion for my hands but that is about it. I am also trying to cut down on technology things or use, still a work in progress. I loved when you spoke about again , like not using or getting botox etc. you are right, let's age gracefully and let's see how we look as we age with out all that stuff , I am age 58, I do have some wrinkles, I'm totally OK with that, and a lot of other things that come with aging, all personal so I'll leave it at that, so it's about accepting that we do age , and you know, as we age , we have more wisdom, we have so many scars to show what life has brought us (surgeries for one , for those women who have given birth and so much more that changes our bodies) , we got through it all , IT'S all GOOD , it's the natural process of life! I am still beautiful inside and out regardless of my scars, wrinkles etc.! Let's be an example for the younger women ! Awesome video! I also just moved a month ago, I did buy a few new things , nothing big or expensive but as far as furniture , what I have is more than enough , I don't need more , I hope to be able to down size more though in future . Amazing video, absolutely my cup of tea to have listened to for today!!!

I became “halfway vegetarian” when I was 12 years old, not eating red meat or fish, because my parents didn’t know how to feed me an entirely vegetarian diet. When I started dating my husband, we agreed together to become full vegetarians. We have now been vegetarians for almost a decade, and I’m 30 now so almost at the 20 year mark of not eating any red meat/fish. I completely agree that it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and it’s easier now more than ever to eat a plant based diet. Thanks for sharing and any vegan videos would be appreciated!

There are 3 things that I’ve decided NOT to buy next year. 1. is anything black. Clothes, furniture, decor etc.. I’ve been removing my current items that are black bit by bit this month and loving the lightness it immediately brings to me, my wardrobe and the space. No. 2. I’m also not buying plastic plants. I actually donated all my artificial pot plants (6) yesterday and replaced them with real ones. My home feels more alive again! No. 3. Skin care and makeup that is full of bad chemicals. I’m swapping to only the best natural products and simplifying my whole beauty routine like you! ❤️ Thank you so very much for just being you, and inspiring us all to live our best lives! 👏👏👏

Around this time of year, my family always asks what I want for Christmas and as I get older/more minimalist, I am struggling to come up with ideas. I just don't want/need more "stuff." (I do ask for gift cards for groceries, gas, massages, video games, stores where I buy clothes, etc. but they usually want to buy me at least one or two physical items.) I know you have mentioned in previous videos that you don't exchange gifts with your partner, but I'm curious how have you handled gift-giving with your non-minimalist friends and family? Not sure if there is enough for a video on this topic but would definitely watch one if you make one!

I never would have thought you’re 35. You look amazing although 35 is still very young in my books. I think when you eat a clean diet, don’t drink….or very little and don’t smoke you age better. As for Botox and fillers, I’m happy to go without. Ageing is a gift that many don’t receive so a few wrinkles don’t bother me.

This happened because I got Crohn disease and my bowls don’t react good on vegetables any more unfortunately. For me there is at least 1 more thing and that are candles. I just love to buy all kind of them but I do have so many that I just have to finish them first. There is a whole grocery crate full of candles in my cupboard 😂.
