I have read about it in 8th grade english book. The chapter was called "The Best Christmas Present In The World" the chapter contained a letter from a sergant who was in the no mans land that time. He had written that letter to his wife Connie, and it was the last letter that he ever wrote to her. It was heart wrecking. The chapter is based on a book of the same name written by Michael Morpurgo. I loved that story. It was amazing! I still cry when i think about it.
"the generals and officials doesn't want a truce but the soldier has different in mind". It's sad to see the poor and low level people fight for rich and high ranking people.
"They've got Christmas trees all along the top of their trenches - I never saw such a sight. Climbing the parapet, I saw a sight which I shall remember to my dying day."
This makes me question why we should have soldiers. Like, they weren’t really fighting each other, they were fighting what those people represent. Why can’t government leaders just do things themselves. Like, what, why lose hundreds of thousands of men when it’s the leaders that spark conflict and make other people fix it.
It always makes me happy when people talk about this but not on every front this happened. The soldiers on both sides didn't know the enemy to hate anybody, most soldiers were fighting against their will
And today we’re all brothers Tonight we’re all friends A moment of peace in a war that never ends Today we’re all brothers We drink and unite Now Christmas has arrived and the snow turns the ground white Hear carols from the trenches, we sing O holy night Our guns laid to rest among snowflakes A Christmas in the trenches, a Christmas on the front far from home
