It would be great to see folks with wavy, finer hair and less density, to see if it helps them. Both you and Amanda are blessed with amazing locks. I think both of your hair would look like it has volume regardless of what products you use.
@@nikki2370 I've had a look at other reviews of the line with folks who have thinner, less curly hair and the reviews have been good. It's worth noting that it seems the instructions ask folks to use too much product - almost all reviewers say they used too much and they had that producty feeling in their hair. I think it does add a bit of grit, which most root uplifters do. I use the Moroccan Oil root lifter and that leaves a lot of grit in your roots - but it works great!
Boucleme's volumising foam combined with their gel is a lifesaver for fine hair, low density. I've also found for me it works better using thickening creams as finishing creams to define curls when they are dry. I originally followed the instructions and used thickening creams when my hair was wet and I could have fried eggs with the amount of oil that it created. Now I just put tiny, tiny bits on individual curls when they are dry. Helps with humidity too.
I agree. I don't know if Mel and Amanda are the target demographic, and even if a product is "suitable" for all hair types, it doesn't mean that it will be equally effective on all hair types. I really wish they had tested the line on someone with fine hair and maybe someone with a looser curl type. I have extremely fine, wavy hair (styled straight in my profile pic, though). I have medium density, but the individual hairs are so fine that I can't feel a single strand if I roll it between my fingers. I love the Curlsmith Thickening Lotion, and bought it when it was on clearance. It gives me volume, adds some "grit," and a slight hold. When combined with the Effortless Waves spray, it is a winning combination for me.
I have used the thickening lotion and I have fine hair medium density but doesn’t really work for me. I also used their other line but it gives me a lot buildup

TEA from Mel is my FAVORITE I would also love to see you do a review of Redken’s new curl line. The acidic bonding leave in for curly hair that’s separate from the one in the original line, works so well!
Stylist here! I work at Redken Elite salon, we received the new Redken curl line and so far I’m impressed. I have not yet tried the shampoo and conditioner on myself but I’ve used it on clients. The conditioner is very thick but moisturizing, I’m afraid it will weight down my curly fine hair but of course I will still try it. The Curl Mist I love, really gives that bounce back into your curls after day 3 or 4 without making your hair feel tacky and weighed down. The gel is awesome, it gives great hold and nice juicy curl clumps. The rest of the line I have yet to try on myself but I cannot wait!😊

Gummy fruit candy with extra sugar. Just a warning if you're sensitive to scents, I couldn't get the smell out until I used clarifying shampoo. I couldn't even wash it off my hands. I also hated the smell. It was like that really sweet old lady perfume but with gummy bears.
Great review and comparison! ❤Isn’t it funny how different our results can be with products?! I had some of the best volume of my life with this line. I did have that gritty feel from the mousse from using too much. The original volume lotion also made a visible difference for me compared to nothing.
Hey Mell can you do a vid/reel on the updates to the Verb curl foaming gel? I see it is now in different packaging and was wondering if that meant it’s been reformulated or something. If you’ve tried it/ have info on it can you explain what’s changed and do you like the changes? Also have they stopped saying you created the product or worked on it because I don’t see it mentioned anymore. 😕
It’s so hard to get aerosols like mousses from abroad! There are so many restrictions on it lol so I appreciate you guys putting in the extra effort to give us the review!❤️
I’ve been using the mousse for about a month and I’ve found it works better over gel, a little goes a LONG way and it needs to be scrunched in until it’s fully absorbed into your hair. You can feel the texture go smooth and slippy once it’s on properly. It’s taken a bit of practice but I always get more volume using mousse
@@msammy6914yes! And for me left flakes behind. Searching for a new hair product for hold in my humid Florida weather so was looking forward to see if this line was any good.
@@maggiej616 Curlsmith is really hit or miss for me. Their weightless air dry cream seemed like it would work for my dry, fine hair but it's actually kind of heavy and takes a really long time to dry. Their strength line, however, is really good (love the Bond Rehab salve) as well as the Essential Moisture co-wash. I recently discovered their hairspray, which does give my hair a lot of volume and control frizz! The downside is that it can leave the hair feeling "producty" so I use it sparingly.
So thankful for this review. I was waiting to hear your opinion on this before proceeding to order the WHOLE LINE and love your honesty! Looks like I’ll change out my cart to the OG fave Curlsmith products
I appreciate your honest review! I can tell you that I have fine, slippery, wavy hair that doesn't want to hold a style. Looks great when I first finish diffusing and falls flat within a few minutes. This line has been great for my hair type. Even as I'm blow drying, I can see that my hair has more volume at the root. And it holds throughout the day. I personally like that bit of a gritty feeling because it tells me that my hair isn't going to be flat. I love the smell too. This stuff really does work for my type of hair. I was not blessed with curlier hair like you that gets good volume from more moisturizing products. ❤ I wish I was, though!
For future reference, Curl Warehouse in Calgary brings in a bunch of product options, and they ship Canada wide! I picked up this mousse there to try in early May, but unfortunately I also found it felt product-y/tacky in my hair (fine, med length, 2c-3a)
Thank you both for taking the time to review the line. As someone with extremely fine, medium to low density, wavy-curly hair, I love the shampoo, conditioner, leave in and gel mouse. It gives me volume that improves over time and my hair actually lasts three days with next to no refreshing. No other line has ever given me that. I admit the spray feels nasty when used as directed -- I'm still trying to figure it out. I didn't bother to try the lotion as I know my hair can only handle so many products. There is a major learning curve with the amounts to use with the mouse. You need need far less than you think and the recommendation of golf ball size amounts of the mousse is actually a good one.
This line actually worked great for me! My curls are more define i would say 3C , the volume was definitely there without me having to diffuse or pick my roots! I used all the products together as intended, with the mouse i styled my hair with it last instead of just adding it on top like how you guys did! I must say i notice a difference right away when my hair dried, my other favorite line is the scalp one the blue one! And this one definitely did not dissapoint. I would say Try it for your self and see how you like the results!
Love the review!! I have more fine hair so trying to figure out products for volume is a challenge. Off topic, but you and Amanda mention and advocate for using oils. I’m super nervous about trying out oils in between my washes, any advice?
i have bought this thickening lotion for several friends (and my mom!) who are either losing their hair or have thin or fine hair. THEY LOVE IT. their moms are now using it, too! i bought it on a whim and am so glad i did.
I love curlsmith products so I'm excited to watch this review. Although I don't think I'll be buying these because I don't need volume at all but I love watching it transform others hair that need it or just want some extra lift.
Oh my goodness I'm so glad U guys had the same experience with the mousse .l almost glued my hand t my diffuser 😂 So much came out n it was super sticky n left a weird feel aswell! I have 2c curls, waist length n very thick. Thanks for your review ❤
Thank you so much for being honest. These products are expensive for me and it’s helpful to know if these products really work before I spend money on them :)
I’ve never liked the curlsmith shampoos, none of them cleanse enough for my preference. I did come to second the request to do this on a wavy/less dense head of hair to see how it holds up. You two never lack for volume!
I have the hydrate and plump leave in and the mousse and like them both. My hair is the same length as yours but much finer and I think you definitely used way too much product. The 1st time I used too much mousse and it gave far too much grit which felt dirty in the hair but the 2nd time I used the recommended golf ball sized amount which is tiny and this is all that’s needed. Next I will try the products on their own to see which product I prefer. I like the definition they give but I don’t notice more volume.
I have both products and the thickening lotion does make a difference to my fine, low density mixed pattern curls and waves. I was disappointed with the volume range (I was super excited to try it as my hair needs volume) as I felt it left quite a lot of residue on my hair, having said that it did create extra volume for me but still I don't find myself reaching for it weekly. I did try it again using less product but it didn't offer much in the way of hols after day 1-2.
Hi! This is a little off topic, but I really like your hairstyle. I’ve used relaxer on my hair for about 8 years but I’ve finally decided to go back to my natural hair texture (which is around 3b/3c ish?, with bits and pieces of 4a). Your hairstyle / a variation of your hairstyle is the style I want to go to :))
The CurlSmith curl conditioning Oil-In-Cream! Is the only thing I’ve used on my daughters hair. It’s not bad, but also it’s all in the way you style your hair! ❤
I have the full body volumizing lotion and I do see a difference in my hair... but not in a good way. It just makes my hair stringy 😭 I prefer just to use their miracle shield and their hydro style flexie jelly. And I don't even use their air dry leave in cream stuff anymore because I found a cheaper alternative that works better for my hair. I also use their clarifying kit like every other week. Otherwise I'm using shea moisture shampoo/conditioner.
For my 2C-3A-3B fine low density hair, the root volumizer works amazingly. The gel/mousse product of the same line not so much. It doesn’t give me the definition and hold I like. So I guess I still need to figure out what to addd to my hair routine to get the results I want
The Aveda "Be Curly" line is the next one I'm going to buy, I'm saving up now. I was actually going to get the new line from Curlsmith, but now I don't think I will. I'll stick with my Curlsmith original line.💜
I have extremely fine and flat curly hair. I got this lotion, and it helped my hair a lot. Don't get me wrong, I don't have tina Turner hair by any means, but my hair doesn't stick to my scalp, and it fluffs up. I ❤️ it
I actually really like the line. I use the shampoo, conditioner, leave in, and mousse. I have a good day one and two hair before needing to refresh on day 3. I did make the mistake the first time with the mousse. When you use a lot of it, it does feel “tacky” which I hate. A little really does go a long way. I also did notice that my hair needs to be pretty wet for it to be a good hair day. If it’s damp I get crown frizz. Overall I do enjoy those 4 products.
I have medium density, medium thickness, wavy hair and actually have been really liking their root spray. I’ve been reaching for it over the Fekkai root spray that I’ve been loving. I honestly think my hair just reacts differently to CurlSmith because I don’t like any stylers from their orange or blue line.
Curlsmith is my favorite brand, but I just couldnt get behind the mousse. I have pretty dense, course hair and I feel like I had less volume and more hold in the mousse alone (supposed to be a 6) compared to the flexi jelly (supposed to be 7). I like the both of them but tell me why the non-volume styler had more volume 😗. The protein gel is supposed to be the same amount of hold (at the 6) and it felt like night and day, the mousse felt like soo much hold. I definitely think they could be used best on finer curls.
So far I have enjoyed the Leave in (not the hair thickener lotion) and the conditioner. My hair seems to really like the ingredients. However, I'm confused with the gel to mousse. I loved the one you made with Verb (can we still get that btw) but my curl smith doesn't foam like yours did. it's more runny... Not sure what I'm doing wrong there. the gel does leave my hair sticky... which is okay in this Texas humidity, but not for touching my hair. Love these reviews!
Is crazy when I saw they have a styling lotion I went straight to the website to see if I can find the one in the blue bottle & I couldn’t find it anywhere on their website… now I know why (& I guess) it was the same one as the one from the new line (pink line). Yea I have normal to corse strand so this line didn’t really grab my attention. Thank you so much for reviewing this product! Love your videos!
I did buy the new mousse gel from them, it arrived yesterday. I think the side with the older products looks the same. I didn't buy it because it looked like a rebrand to me. I already own the old thickening brand but haven't used it in the last year and a half. I'm going to try using it again with the new mousse gel. The scalp line is my favorite line and I use it daily. I plan to add the mousse gel to the Hydro Style Flex Jelly. We'll see how that goes.
I really like the shampoo from this line. Its my fave of their shampoos and lathers really nicely for me. I actually find that the detox shampoo is not very cleansing for me. Im about to test out the mousse. We,ll see.
I had to use the mousse on its own without even any leave in conditioner. And very little of it and scrunch it. It looks good then on my fine to medium 3a hair. I have the leave in as well but it’s really heavy so still need to try it on its own to see if it can work. It was too much with mousse, foam and any of the gels I have. I would say don’t waste your money on anything but the mousse and try it without anything underneath first. Maybe wait for travel size of other products and try it like that.
Happy Texture Thursday!! I've been waiting for this!! I haven't bought it yet cause I was waiting for you!! Thank you!! Much love and happiness!! Xoxo 😘
Happy Texture Thursday. The pain we 🇨🇦s deal with when getting things shipped. Love that you gave a honest opinion. You can love a brand but not like some of their products.
I got great volume on my hair from the mousse. My hair had texture, which gave me such good volume. I have fine hair and fine-medium density. My profile picture is my day 2 hair with the mousse, and day 3 was much fuller. The original thickening lotion also game me more density. I use it each wash day. I haven't tried the new one because I still have a lot of product left. I left a review of the mousse on Sephora.
I do like the leave-in, the root spray and the mousse (my routine from today, actually). But a little does go a long way and I only got the tacky feeling when I applied too much in the beggining.
I was waiting for your review. Thank you so much for your honest thoughts. Can you tell me your favorite line from curlsmith? Favorite leave-in condition? Favorite shampoo and conditioner? Favorite deep condition? Favorite cream? I want to invest in a good product but every time I want to buy from this line something holds me back. I am open to to other brands.
Would love to see more of the new lines of fragrance free products that have recently come out (SEEN fragrance free products have showed up at my dermatologist office and all over amazon) and i heard curl smith will be adding to their fragrance free collection
I have fine low density curly hair. Tends to go flat as the days go by rather than bigger. It did give me volume and hold. Second day hair did look good. However, I hated the texture and feel of it. I have naturally super oily scalp and hair and it didn’t take long for it to just feel dirty with this. If there’s not enough water it seems to flash dry as well and my hairs not as curly. Not a fan of this line. So far the only line I’ve really liked was the shine unscented line.
I wanna know, hands down, what products you recommend for volume. I’m new to your channel and I’m lazy and don’t wanna sift through all your vids to try and summarize and find out. I’m using some products recommended by the blowout professor, but he doesn’t do curly hair so it was recommended I come to your channel. I just bought 2 of these new curlsmith products too.
-sigh- I wish you had done this video before I picked up the 4 products I bought. Same experience with the shampoo. I love the Curlsmith scalp line, I love the defrizz line. Have found genuine joy with those, K18, and the Aveda scalp treatment. I should have spent that $$ to try the Aveda curl instead.
Quidad products have been my best results. Curlsmith gives me okay results or too strong, but I need to try the shower style fixer. I have low density, medium texture, very low porosity hair.
I tried the moose and like your sister said it was sticky and I didn’t like the residue in my hair and it was just too much for my fine texture. I returned it. I feel little disappointed because I really love CurlSmith. 😢 but I really like their other lines so this was a flop for me but definitely love other stuff they have.
I did buy the mousse / gell. I found it to be very sticky. Not my top ten. I did buy the Arvada, tried it once and found my hair to be very frizzy. Will try again tomorrow.
I have an idea of a video segment for you! I've just tried a new refresh day for wavy, 2a hair. I'd love to see you try it. That's my idea! Ask viewers their personal tips and tricks and try them yourself 🤔🤷🏼♀️💗 What I'd love to see you try and know your thoughts on....I dampen my hair with water that has a conditioner mixed in, plain water would be fine. I then gently rake a wide tooth comb through. I then spray some sea salt spray and scrunch. It tidies it up, rids frizz and fluffiness and leaves a lil shine :) Just an idea anyway! I love watching your vids, there are many to choose from, you're my fav!
I really appreciate the honesty! Especially since you & Amanda typically share positive thoughts on Curlsmith’s products that work for you. This just reaffirms that I’m in the right place for honest reviews!🫶🏼
Thanks for the honest review. I was considering getting some of the stylers from this line, but I think I’ll pass. I love their strength line though. It does all the things for my hair. 💜
I don't have nearly as much hair as amanda and the root spray did nothing for me too sadly :( And I think it caused more frizz for me in subsequent days too!
This is a question that has nothing to do with this video, but great video!! Love your editing, makes it so fun!! But how do you wash/clean your brushes & combs?
I have fine low density hair and I did see an increase in volume with this line. There was less definition but that is often expected with volume. There is a texture after the mousse but it wasn’t a deal breaker. Overall I liked this line, especially much better than the frizz line (which I think was liked on this channel). My hair is very different than M&A’s so not surprised what works for them doesn’t work for me and vice versa. I think M&A’s hair already either naturally or due to professional styling techniques have amazing volume so that could be why they didn’t see much of a difference. Wonder why Curlsmith didn’t send these to Mell for free for review 🤔…
I was wondering if you had or could make a video on up dos that are less damaging to curly hair. I have to wear my hair up for work if it's past my shoulders. I have fine, 2C to 3b hair. And ponytails are damaging my curls. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you for your content, again I really appreciate it.
This is the only Curlsmith line that has worked for me. I have fine and flat wavy hair. These products gave me the volume I've never been able to achieve with other styling products.
I purchased the new CurlSmith Volumizing Mousse. I played around with it and I didn't like how it made my hair feel. My hair felt dirty and heavy.I have fine curly low density hair.l returned the mousse!

There is a major learning curve with the amounts to use with the mouse. You need need far less than you think and the recommendation of golf ball size amounts of the mousse is actually a good one.
I really appreciate your honest review! I have fine low density curls / waves & I had the same experience with this line.
Purchase a "Rake" comb. The best detangling comb, ever! 🎉
The CurlSmith curl conditioning Oil-In-Cream! Is the only thing I’ve used on my daughters hair. It’s not bad, but also it’s all in the way you style your hair! ❤
Mell I appreciate this honest review- as someone who was about to spend their coins on this whole set!
I have the full body volumizing lotion and I do see a difference in my hair... but not in a good way. It just makes my hair stringy 😭
I prefer just to use their miracle shield and their hydro style flexie jelly.
So I guess I still need to figure out what to addd to my hair routine to get the results I want
i've been waiting for your review before buying lol!! thanks love
The mousse from this line is the most curl-enhancing product I've ever used. And I have tons of products. I really like it.
Thank you for reviewing this line. I am struggling to find a happy medium of applying the products and which ones to use.
This review is super helpful! I wanted to try this line, and I appreciate your thorough testing!
It works great over gel but you only need a tiny bit and make sure you really really scrunch it in….good luck!
My only HG product from Curlsmith is the weightless air day cream. It works amazingly!
Thanks for the review, Mel. Great information about this product.
Happy Texture Thursday!! I've been waiting for this!! I haven't bought it yet cause I was waiting for you!! Thank you!! Much love and happiness!! Xoxo 😘
Hope you find this helpful!!!😘😘
Could you do a full review on the Aveda be curly advanced please?
Happy Texture Thursday. The pain we 🇨🇦s deal with when getting things shipped. Love that you gave a honest opinion. You can love a brand but not like some of their products.
I got great volume on my hair from the mousse. My hair had texture, which gave me such good volume. I have fine hair and fine-medium density. My profile picture is my day 2 hair with the mousse, and day 3 was much fuller. The original thickening lotion also game me more density. I use it each wash day. I haven't tried the new one because I still have a lot of product left. I left a review of the mousse on Sephora.
What's that color on your lips? It's about to be my fav❤
I LOVE the mouse!! You don’t need much! I use it by itself as my only styler!!
I have learned so many things watching your channel. Thank you, my hair is looking Ggggrreeaaattt ❤
I wish I could like this video multiple times. GREAT review. You answered all of my questions about this line.
What mic are you all using in this video? Thank you!
Were you talking about Fruit Stripe gum?
Agreed. Same results from this line
Mell you have no idea how long i was waiting for you to review this and how much money you just saved me 😭😭
Hi Mell! Happy Texture Thursday! Love the pink theme!! Thanks for this honest review!!!! ❤️❤️
I love that even though you didn't like this line, you wore pink through the whole video!
Ask viewers their personal tips and tricks and try them yourself 🤔🤷🏼♀️💗
What I'd love to see you try and know your thoughts on....I dampen my hair with water that has a conditioner mixed in, plain water would be fine. I then gently rake a wide tooth comb through. I then spray some sea salt spray and scrunch. It tidies it up, rids frizz and fluffiness and leaves a lil shine :)
Just an idea anyway! I love watching your vids, there are many to choose from, you're my fav!
Hi! Thank you for such a great review! Could you do only mouse across different textures? 😁
I really appreciate the honesty! Especially since you & Amanda typically share positive thoughts on Curlsmith’s products that work for you. This just reaffirms that I’m in the right place for honest reviews!🫶🏼
Thanks for this review really wanted to see it xx love a real review and being honest xx
i want to see you review dae haircare!!! i haven’t seen any curly or wavy girls review it, yet.
Well, i love the volume line fir curlsmith and makes my hair Voluminous💕 but I also havw a different curl type/hair than you do
El can you do a review in a economical line like shampoo , conditioner, leave in, curl cream , gel to mousse etc
Thanks for the honest review. I was considering getting some of the stylers from this line, but I think I’ll pass. I love their strength line though. It does all the things for my hair. 💜
Thanks Mell and Amanda!
Wait! The first product applied on the new volume line side was the Hydrate and Plump Primer, not the volumizing lotion.
Have you done a review of the frizz rescue line by Curlsmith?
This is the only Curlsmith line that has worked for me. I have fine and flat wavy hair. These products gave me the volume I've never been able to achieve with other styling products.
I purchased the new CurlSmith Volumizing Mousse.
I played around with it and I didn't like how it made my hair feel.
My hair felt dirty and heavy.I have fine curly low density hair.l returned the mousse!
18:20 Did Mell misspeak when reviewing the shampoo/conditioner? She said it was unforgettable but went on to say she forgot all about them lol just wondered if i heard correctly
