I’ll never understand people calling WRs and DBs divas for the way they act. They literally have to play 1on1 the WHOLE game and to win at that you have to think and act like you’re the best.
Being confident shouldn't equate to behaving like a princess. I'll always be surprised that some players act like GIRLS and are suprised that people want them to act like they are men.
So like zone isn’t a thing? That’s 7 people working as a group to cover. They are divas cause they eat the ball in their hands cause they think that’s the only way to win, not understanding a RB with 5 TD n a win is still a win.
Cornerbacks have quite a bit of responsibility indeed. 1) In Man Coverage assignments, if their receiver beats them, it's a new set of downs at best, or 6 points at worst. Aside from the Running Back, these are the most athletic men on the field. 2) Even if you play the route or your zone correctly, you are expected to make that Interception. 3) You are ALSO expected to come up and give Run Support. having to try to make continuous stops against the run will wear you down and deplete your efficiency against the pass......which goes back to point 1 being an issue again. Behind Middle Linebacker, I think these guys have the next heavy burden.
Terrific video. As a former corner I’m always arguing this. It’s a little different at the high school and college level since the illegal contact rule doesn’t exist. Therefore CBs can make contact with receivers beyond the first 5 yards. At the NFL level it’s basically rigged against corners. Especially the last 20 years when they reemphasized focusing on illegal contact following the 2003 season. That’s why the passing TD season record fell the very next year and records have been falling consistently for the last two decades. Then you factor in the inability to hit qbs high, low, or land on them and can’t hit receivers high or in a defenseless position and it’s incredibly difficult to play defense effectively at the NFL level.
The biggest example I can give from this point is last Sunday. Yea yea that falcons got embarrassed, but nobody seemed to notice that AJ Terrell, CB1 for the Falcons, locked down their WR1 the whole game. This already 1000+ receiver had 7 targets, ONE reception, and he will get no flowers for that. There has to be a better way to track CB stats, man played lights out all night and all he gets is a bunch of zeros
L'Jarius Sneed helped us win 2 SBs and when it was time to pay him we said no thanks and let the Titans give him a bag. Happy he helped us win and that he got his money.
5:08 When Mr. Revis Island was still playing cornerback, I didn't pick that receiver that he was facing in fantasy football because Revis was probably going to shut him down. (unless their name was Randy Moss or Megatron Calvin Johnson)

The position has effectively been devalued, because it's almost impossible to have a shutdown corner in the true sense of the word. I'm talking about don't even bother looking to your best weapon because he's not gonna be open. Today, you put a good enough WR on Pat Surtain, he might be good for a solid contribution. Maybe even a tub on a 50/50 ball if your boy got some vertical. I'm taking 3 good corners over a Pat Surtain and 2 mediocre guys any day.
Guys like JJetta and Chase are unstoppable no matter who is covering, it's all about mitigating not preventing, because some guys you just won't lock up
Going even deeper the slot corner has been the most important position in my opinion. They have to guard the quick slot wr and they also have to guard the tight end. Trent McDuffie best all around cb
What AJ Terrell did to Terry Mclaurin yesterday was a perfect example of being an elite CB cuz we heard AJs name 2 times all game and they were both on pass breakups. 1 catch for 5 yards.
Very good video. I wanted to make a video like this one day. I also will add a talking point: the position is hard to judge, off & on the field. On the field a lot of plays are hard to tell who gave up what; depending on the scheme. Also its hard to judge off the field because of the isolation & scheme; your stats wont tell your value & where your thrive might not be compatible with other teams.
Funny enough, i think a big part of the LOB's pure dominance was the fact that Sherman locked down an entire side of the field no matter what, which free'd up Maxwell/Browner/Lane, Earl and Kam to dead their entire sections without having to worry about what Sherman was doing. A safety that doesn't have to hesitate on their instinct knowing his corners won't get burnt can be so much more effective.
Not to mention the fact there are multiple corners on each play. In order for a play to not get out of hand EACH corner must do their job. Doesn’t matter if you do yours if another receiver is open
Personally I feel like the mental strain part could go for any position. Every position is gonna lose a rep in some way and you always gotta bounce back from it,but I see what you saying. Great video btw
A few years back I played in a flag football league and one game we decided to try me at corner. Mind you im 6’4 and at the time I weighed 230, not exactly knob for straight line speed so basically a defensive end put at corner. That ended up NOT being the case and needless to say i never played at corner again barring situations where we played man coverage and the other teams slowest player lined up out on the perimeter 😂
CB is tough, but not the toughest IMO. 1. Setup to fail: mostly applies to the whole defense 2. Island: CBs have more stats than OLine 3. Mistakes: QBs and Kickers have it worse 4. Mental: QB is worse 5. Toll: CB requires skill but lineman, RB and LBs take beatings every down Also CBs make more on average than DTs, LBs, RBs, S, TEs, FBs and Ks.
