Awesome vintage footage of my favorite ride at Disneyland! Great quality too!
I love this ride too, but I like the roller coasters and fantasyland more.
Tina Rash small world is in fantasyland
Merry Christmas Tina Rash
Ngl, I honestly prefer the Welcome and Goodbye room a lot more than what we have today
one thing that rlly stuck out to me was the Russian dancing dolls. I've never seen them move so fluidly, but then again the ride was only 20 years old then instead of 60.. lol
Wow is it really 60?! I miss all of Disneyland, but I also don't like how they change it. They should add to it, not change it.
@@tinarash7772 It's about 60, It'll be 60 in four years which is CRAZY. Also, I do too. I'm young and the earliest I remember of Disneyland was the early 2000s. I feel like even then Disneyland was classic and I really miss that ):
This brought back so many memories, thank you!! I went for the first time to WDW in 1986 and this is the ride I remember most, seeing it again was amazing. And great filming, cameras back then were very heavy and this video was flawless!
You're welcome! My dad recorded that with an on the shoulder camera that took full size VHS tapes
This brought back memories!! Same year too! Thanks from New Zealand 34 years later
Very glad you liked it!
Do happen to remember what month? We went in April.
I really like the holiday version of Small World better than the regular version.
I've never seen it. Do you have video of it?
@@tinarash7772, yes I do. Just type in Small World Holiday 2019 with my channel in it and watch it.
@@michaelthethemeparktraveli3011okay, soon as I'm not busy, tonight maybe
That's a good camera for the 80s
Yeah, it got some of the scenes that my Sony Handycam in 2000 didn't get while in the Haunted Mansion.
Merry Christmas Tina Rash
This ride was so much better before the Disney characters and the American room
There are Disney characters in it? The American room? I haven't been since the year 2000. The information I learn, the more worried I am that it won't be fun anymore.
This is great old footage, and good quality for the 80's
Merry Christmas Benjamin Roberson
Its one of those Danny Tanner (Full House) on the shoulder cameras.
@@chedyte9884 Sorry for the years late reply but Merry Christmas!
I miss when the Russian girls danced rather than just rotate like drones in the most recent iteration
Currently, they’re not even there anymore lol
They don’t they do it
from what i remember, the russian girls are balkan, not russian
Years later, it amazes me that some of the animatronics are still there, and it’s not completely changed, I also think that some of the animatronics in the video were taken down sometime over the years, cause some structures and animatronics I don’t remember being there.
Yeah some animatronics have been rearranged over the years, including but not limited to the major 2008 refurbishment which added the Disney characters and America room. Some others have also had changed movements before and since this video. The Russian dancers at 3:52 are one notable example, which since the early 90's have had much slower and simplified kicks.
@@benjaminroberson1924 Something tells me they were reprogrammed to kick slower and the speed was changed since the kick movement appears to be identical. The same can also be said for the Scandinavian dancers and the Brazil dancers. Any dolls that jump around in the ride.
@@sonicfan91 I think this is correct. For each set of these dancers, I've seen videos and films where one year they still had their original movements, and by the next year they had the slower versions. As this video shows, the Scandinavian dancers were changed first, which was around 1982. Then the Brazilian dancers were changed around 1989/90, and strangely the Russian dancers were changed only a year or two later.
@@benjaminroberson1924 It makes me wonder why they even made them slower in the first place. Maintenance costs, probably, but then again, Disney parks should be focused on maintaining their rides all the time for a presentable visit when guests come by.
Merry Christmas Everyone
Merry Christmas!
6:20 I been looking forever to see behind there
Nice filming for the time!
Thank you! That was my dad's on the shoulder camera. No idea what brand, but you recorded straight onto video tapes.

I love this ride so much
I liked it better before they messed with it. I think it was longer before and didn't have the big wall of nothing.
The mermaid, probably Ariel, when you first go into the underwater scene sounds different than how she does today, I’m glad they took the gurgling voice out.
@@gabbyvillarreal1062 This is not Ariel, it's just a normal mermaid. Ariel and other Disney characters were added to this ride in February 2009.This video is from 1986 before the premiere of The Little Mermaid (which premiered in 1989). But in my opinion this gurgling voice is better, because it's more realistic; it sounds like the mermaids were singing underwater.
@@kacperyt2980 I think why I never liked the voice was because I could barely understand what she was saying, and I also forgot about the year this was taken which is why I thought she was Ariel.
This is what the Small World looks LIKE in 1986.
yeah, I was seven
I really like this ride
It's nice to sit and look at when you need to relax, but I'm a roller coaster/Splash Mountain girl myself. Of course I love all the rides in Disneyland. Not sure i'm going to like everything in California Adventure is all.
Tina Rash who has the camera?
My Dad. One of those big on the shoulder Danny Tanner (Full House) video cameras.
it's really weird that the dolls in the china or japan style are singing in english instead of japanese back then.
the song is only sung in English, French, and Spanish(?). I bought the CD.
hmm!
@@tinarash7772 the japanese audio was in disney world at the time when this is taped
In 2003 the japanese audio was restored
@@tinarash7772 I've also heard Swedish and italian too
0:05, Welp, I guess they cut the area loop short. (It's not supposed to restart there)
Dad conserving videotape and battery as that was a big on the shoulder video camera
Beautiful ride i love it ! but the ride was a little bit too dark. or is it the camera ?
It’s both
It could be both, but i think it's one of those things where when you rode it, it wasn't as dark as shown here

What row were you in?
Not sure in this video. I think we were somewhere in the middle toward the front.
Based on other visible people in the boat just before we entered the ride, third row?
Yeah, Mom and Daughter first row
Dad and Son second row and the video shows the bar for out row. So third row.

@@chedyte9884 Merry Christmas to you too.
Sorry, just watched, and no. The video was paused until we were actually on the ride ready to float in.
@@tinarash7772 No, not the videotape itself. I was talking about the 8 track cartridge that played the queue music for it's a Small World.
@@atsmithson it wasn't playing yet. The lady was saying some language version of stay "seated and keep your hands and body inside the boat at all times"
Why is it so dark? It makes it look creepy without the lighting
That was one of those on the shoulder cameras. It took a video tape. It just recorded what it saw.
Ti Mi Gusta Tu Video ! ? .
Glad you like it!
Was the Japanese only in Disney World in 1986? I've got a Disney Park soundtrack that says Japanese for It's A Small World, but I don't think it says which one
1964 version of the Japanese version that was recorded for the ride
The Japenese audio went missing once the world's fair ended until 2003 when it was restored to the ride.
@@andrewcalcagno8272 that's why i haven't heard it then
@@andrewcalcagno8272 They did played the 1964 japanese audio until the mid 1980s But in 2003, it was reinstated.
@@atsmithson why was it taken away in the mid 80s as well as the finale room audio?

Attempted to translate your message and it still makes no sense to me. I'm confused. I'm sorry!
Eighty dolls yelling "small girl after all".
If you've got nothing nice to say, please don't comment! I happen to like the It's A Small World ride and am confused why you'd go to all the trouble to comment just to make fun of it!
Tina Rash I love the ride too. I was referencing a song by a band called They Might Be Giants that talks about a guy being at the 1964 Worlds Fair and mishearing what the dolls are singing on the ride.
Well maybe say that in your comment. I'm glad you love the ride and like my video
You probably misheard that
Back when UA-cam was no such thing

I don't understand. I tried to use Google Translate, but it just repeated what you said.
I saw that you put 3 different comments with three different dates. Wish I knew what you were saying! I'm very interested in finding out!
I was there, still disappointing 😃
What's disappointing? It's A Small World? Disneyland itself? Reservations for everything?
@@tinarash7772 it was disappointing when I was 8, and looking back i was correct to think so. Haunted mansion and space mountain were amazing. Whats disappointing now is the price the wokeness and the child trafficking. I heard they are putting Walt Disney on the $100 bill for the 100th anniversary. Surprising since he was a known anti-semetic, but they don't teach history anymore. This country was once great and truly free, I hope I live long enough to feel that way again.
Try to just see the rides for the awesome that they are and pretend that all of the bad stuff isn't happening@@justintilley1111

it's actually kind of more bizarre then creepy.
Why bizarre? And who said creepy?
Tina Rash people who don't appreciate Walt think it's creepy and annoying
Anybody who thinks this is Creepy is too accustomed to seeing the antithesis. This is Sugary Sweet!
I think you don't know what means "Countries" and "peace on the world"
