    As always, love your content. Really cool to see you build this way. One thing I noticed is that the grain in the neck looks vertical, the way a guitar neck is made. Grain for violin neck is usually horizontal, not vertical; unlike guitars. For one the flames look better, and two, I've been reading that the horizontal grain is better for the pegbox. I'm no master, so maybe double check, but that's what comes to mind when I see this.

    I kinda like the table move to and fro whilst the CNC routes the scroll. 😊

    You should consider orienting the grain on a different axis for the scroll and neck. The annual rings should go 90 degrees from where you have them. In other words looking down from the very top of the scroll the annual rings should go east west not north south. Hope that makes sense. Love your vids!

      I think they call that quarter sawn

    • @tomruth9487
      @tomruth9487 10 місяців тому

      @@MrHanzeeman I think of quarter sawn as to how the lumber is cut from logs with the grain going vertically if you're looking at a flat board that is wider than it's tall. I have an old violin and the neck is figured maple, so I'm guessing the grain is basically in a vertical direction as it would be much stronger like that. My neck has a lot of cracks around the tuning peg holes, so I wonder if figured wood is weaker than just plain quarter sawn lumber in some directions?

    great video. Are you going to do the cleanup with gouges? Are you going to do the fluting of the scroll with hand tools also? I would love to talk more about this.

      Yes I plan to to do a lot of hand work to clean it up and and do the flutes

    I would definitely fix anything that needs fixing in the CNC programming and try again. This part should be able to be CNC cut.

      The cnc gcode is good(I canmake it better). My machine has been faulting and destroying parts. Ive been working woth the people at geckodrive on a solution. Im working on a video of what I have done.

      @@invetech1 I have since found a few reasons for the estop problem. The machine hasn't had a random estop in quite a while. The pc that I run mach 3 with is probably 15 years old, I run windows XP in a very stripped down fasion. I was thinking that it might have been to keep up with the real time tasks but it ended up being a grounding issue that was shutting down the power supply.

    Still curious how you are attaching the workpiece to the table. Great project.

    • @TwoCherriesIns
      @TwoCherriesIns  5 років тому

      It's a trick I learned for attaching templates, and I love it on the cnc. I use masking tape and I burnish it into the part and the table. Then I use super glue to hold the tape peices together.

    Firstly the so-called purists and nay sayers should just screw off! With detail and further honing of your craft you can produce a concert violin and bring prices in reach of many. Ninety seven percent of the audiences would not hear the difference! Keep up the great work!🙏🙏🙏

      @@TwoCherriesIns I'm sorry, I thought you said you would have to cut the flutes out with a chisel. The end of the job on that other machine is show below with them cut out.
      Well unable to post a screen shot. If you go to the end of the other video to see the completed unit you will be able to view. I like your video also. Only violin I ever made came in a kit form so all the hard work was already done but I love my kit of the 5 string. Thanks for getting back to us. I think this automated cutting has a place in our world to expedite construction but nothing can outdo the Luthier who finishes and tunes the instrument.

    • @TwoCherriesIns
      @TwoCherriesIns  Рік тому

      @@smartfiddlestix it's not that I would have to cut them my hand, more that the amount of setup time would not be worth the effort for something easly done by hand. Milling unsupported like this is very challenging, takes a lot if trial and error to get to this point.

    • @doctorrosenrosen6922

      That’s a 5-axis machine costing hundreds of thousands of dollars, and tens of thousands more in automated fixturing. You’d better be selling instruments by the thousands.
      And I bet they still make a lot of scrap. When removing as much material as done when making a neck, the internal stresses in the wood will cause some amount of warping. While a luthier making a neck by hand can adjust as the work progresses, a CNC machine can’t.
      But maybe the OP is just being a little cheeky. If so, good one.
