- When The Flash first aired back in 2014, it was hailed as one of the best comic book shows on tv especially by the time the first season had ended. 9 years later, now that the show has aired 184 episodes spanning over the course of 9 seasons, the show is no longer held in high regard, with the most common review from people being that it started well but then quickly went downhill and there’s no denying the truth behind that. What I wanted to do in this video Is one final ranking of the Flash’s 9 seasons to see if it really did get worse over time. So make sure to subscribe and let’s begin starting with the worst season of The Flash.

It's pretty sad to think that the DCAU episode about Superman and Flash having a racing contest around the World was much more epic than most of last season...

Season 9 being split into arcs was a big mistake, the season was already short it didn't need that, especially being the final season, it should have been the Colbat Blue arc since the begining.
I stopped watching The Flash early on in Season 3 and I agree. Even Agents of Shield, which really pioneered the arc-based structure for Comic Book TV ditched the arc format for it’s final two seasons (which were also 13 episodes each) in favour one continuous story per season.
Hell they could’ve even done red death & Cobalt and ditched the filler arc completely. The fact that 1/3rd of the final season is filler is an absolute joke.

I absolutely agree. But as a double-edged sword, it exposed how ridiculously overpowered Barry was, which subsequently made every other instance were Berry had any type of conflict, absolutely infuriating. Barry should be absolutely unstoppable!
fr, barry can easily speed blitz any non speedster villain, i mean its hard to write a battle between a speedster and normal person
To enjoy The Flash TV show you have to blind yourself to inconsistencies

A majority of season 9 was bad, but at least it gave us some good episodes like episodes 9 & 10, I think season 7 is the worst, there was not a single good episode that season

I think what makes me hate Season 9 the most is the fact that it didn't feel like a finale. At that point I was like "I know what to expect, this season will have some bad stuff but if you just treat your final season like it's your last we will be ok" but they didn't. Not only did they prioritize filler and the side over story and Barry but outside of Arrow they didn't even respect the other Arrowverse shows. Even if you're not a fan of Batwoman or Supergirl you can't help but feel sorry for the fans who were hoping proper closure and/or one final team up with the Flash

I'm convinced there was something between whoever played Cecile and Eric Wallace. Like, who did she blackmail to be written into so many episodes. I'm sure she's a nice lady but good god to be a fly on the wall while Wallace was writing these episodes would be a dream come true lol

@@umapessoa240 nah I think it’s because the actor playing Joe wanted more time off and she essentially replaced the “father figure” for the team. Someone who gives pep talks. She also essentially replaced Vibe in terms of plot convenience being able to find out where enemies are etc.

To be honest I think the blood work arc was made mostly by the old producer and director

The first half of season 2, especially the Earth 2 arc and "Enter Zoom" Episode, was the peak of Arrowerse as a whole. Nothing could touch it.

Some good taste, good bad taste but overall, season 1, 2, 3 all ended up pretty good.
I love the season 5 era of the flash. being on the internet when it was airing was so fun with the theories and stuff and i liked how different it felt compared to the other seasons.

Hartley Sawyer did not deserve at all to be fired, i hate when people judge you based on who you used to be rather than who you are. His addition to the show brought some new life to the cast but sadly losing him had them focus on members like Allegra and Cecile way more. They should have just added someone new instead ...
The best was of course first three seasons. (maybe some parts of 4-5)
But not Eric Walles era of inconsistence, trash and bad writing. (6-9 seasons)
I really think that the original writers had a great story from 2024 with Barry vanishes in Crysis to save the world.
And of course the final battle between Eobard and Barry in it!
That would be way better finale for this show that he desereves.
I only admit the Eric Wallace era when was good in S6 maybe the writers from the first 5 seasons still there before the dogshit S7-9 happened

Season 1 to 3 were good but there was a lot of lack for common sense like he is the fastest man alive he can just stop people instead of just sitting there talking with them instead of beating the villain for the episode.

Season 2 is definitely my favorite mainly because Zoom is just kinda the best thing to come out of the series (To me anyway), and just everything about him is so cool, heck he even has the best speed sfx

I think we like to ignore that there was a period of time on the Internet where jokes like that were accepted, not appropriate, but accepted none the less and now everyone likes to act like the Internet was always this haven for progress when that definitely isn't the case

I don’t mind that Sherloque was brought in instead of using Ralph, because Ralph already has a much more impressive and high-stakes detective moment later on in the season when he discovers Thawne’s plan. I mean, not only did he do that, which is impressive, but he did it with limited secondhand information regarding information in a book that was taken back from the future. And he figured out Thawne’s plan with that. That’s way cooler! I think itd be undercut by having a comparative much less impressive detective moment earlier in the season.

I personally liked seasons 1-3. A controversial opinion but i actually really liked savitar. It's a shame that some concepts of the show make you question why they went that way or with Barry just constantly talking to his enemies instead of literally using his "Fastest man alive" speed to meta-cuff them. The problem with this show is no one ever stays dead. I wish there were some major deaths to keep it spicy
Seasons 1-3 were peak imo but once they focused on Barry and Iris relationship over EVERY other character yea I stopped watching
i also like savitar, the slow burn was really fun
if he WASN'T barry he would be pretty cool but it makes no sense for him to be barry, at least the way they explained it, and he's pretty dumb for a barry allen.
Well tbf Ronnie, Henry Allen, Gypsy (offscreen ffs), and Frost stayed dead. There also might be a few more I can't remember atm
I think it’s clear the downfall of the Flash was too many bad side characters, but also tbh the Flash as a hero is limited in how much you can do for him. He couldn’t be perpetually in the origin phase like he was for the first 3 seasons. Once Barry was OP you had to either make episodes barely feature him, make the villains OP, or make Barry an idiot

The thing that bothers me about season 9 is the fact that it feels like the show isn't over even though it is
I can’t fathom giving seasons 5, 7, 8, & 9 a score above 4/10.
Season 6 I can understand because the Bloodwork Arc was actually interesting and was backed up by an actual good actor in its villain.

What personally makes me hate Season 9 more is that it didn't feel like a final season. At that point I already knew what to expect from Eric Wallace so I was like "As long as you treat your final season like a final season we will be on ok terms" But not only did he prioritize filler over story, not only did they prioritize the unless side characters over Barry, but outside of Arrow they didn't even respect the other Arrowverse shows. Even if you're not a fan of Batwoman or Supergirl you can't help but feel sorry the fans who do watch those shows and were hoping proper closure and/or a final team up with the Flash. I didn't like the direction Legends Tomorrow went with after Season 4 but I would have taken an episode or two focusing on Barry helping breaking the Legends out of prison than what we got

9.Season 9:While Yes this has Episodes 9 and 10 as the Only Best,Barry,Iris,Eddie,Joe,and Matt Letscher are great with Grant’s Final Voice Line,But even those aren’t Enough to Save this Season,this was the End of the Road that instead of focusing on the Flash and Celebrating the Show with Friends and Enemies from his Past,Eric Wallace Fanbait Us,Cecile,Chester,Allegra,and Khione are the most Important Characters than the Flash,there’s no Violence,Risks,Fights,or Deaths because Eric despite those,the Story felt Lazy and Rushed,and it gets Worse the More I think about it.
8.The Moment they Fired the Ralph Dibny Actor I Knew it was going to be Bad but All I got was Negative Thoughts,even Villain is Given Redemption when they don’t Deserve It,the First 3 Episodes on the Mirror Monarch Arc and the Gorces are God Awful,XS and Impulse gave Me a Bad Taste of my Mouth,and Godspeed,a Great Anti Villain in the Comics became a Goofy Villain that’s an Insult to Villains of the 80s and 90s.
7.Season 5:I Felt Anger and Hatred watching this Season,the Only Redeeming Qualities are Ralph,Sherluke,the 100th Episode,and…and…an..I’m Sorry but that’s It,Nora is an Awful Addition to the Show that Took Barry’s Spot,was created to replace Wally,washed away the Concept of the Tornado Twins,and is a Horrible Character,Iris is at her worst Here,Barry was Pathetic and Soft,the Cicadas are Terrible Villains,has the Worst Flash Suit,and Icicle should’ve been the Main Villain.
6.Season 3:It’s the Most Disappointing Season of the Flash and was the Start of its Downfall,they wasted the Concept of Flashpoint,the Rival,a Iconic Harry Potter Actor,Killer Frost being a Permanent Villain,and the Idea that Savitar needed to be Wally.
5.Season 8:the Only Good Things are the Final Version of the Flash Suit is Perfect,love the New Reverse Flash and Atom Suit,Deathstorm and Despero are the Last Serious Villains,and some of the Special Effects look Good,however it has So Many Problems people are Ignoring,Armageddon is a Waste as Well as Ronnie and Caitlin needed to Died and Frost to Live to build more emotion,the Time Sickness is Garbage,the Negative Forces are the 2nd Worst Villains in the Series,and the Kill the Best Reverse Flash Matt Letscher.
4.Season 6:While I will Never Defend 6B,6A is Great,It’s the Perfect Ending for the Series with a Emotional Impact and Bloodwork is the 3rd Best Villain of the Series with the Best Arc and Graphic Novel Wallace Wrote.

2.Season 4:I know People has Problems with this One and I Agree Wally Leaving for Dumb Reasons,some of the Worst Episodes of the Series are Written by Eric Wallpaper and Kevin Smith,a lot of Feminist Moments,Making Mistakes with Iris’ Character,Amulet is Awful,and the Body Switch was a Left Down,however I Enjoyed It and has More Good Things People aren’t giving Credit,It has the 2nd Best Flash Suit,the Thinker is A Great Underrated Villain,the Prison Arc has some of the Best Moments of the Series,Ralph Dibny is the Last Good Support Cast with a Perfect Redemption Arc Eric Tried and Failed to Duplicate,and has the Best Episode of the Season Enter Flashtime.
1.Season 2:It has to be Season 2,It’s the Most Well Written,Emotional,Dark,Serious,and Well Put Out,It Challenges Barry in more Ways than One and Zoom is the Perfect Villain of the Series Hands Down being the Dark Reflection of Barry Allen and the Best Villain Twist on the Arrowverse.

It really says something when Enter Flash Time, arguably the best the show has to offer, is nearly completely unrelated to any arc before or after, and features the supporting cast very sparingly.
Season 7 legitimately looks like a power rangers show
Season 1&2 will always be my favorites but I will that the only bad thing about s2 is that Barry kills two Earth2 villains in the first two episodes where is was established that Flash never killed

I completely agree with the Hartley Sawyer thing. He didn’t deserve to be fired, and the writers didn’t even bother to recast, using Ralph’s powers to explain it. They just wrote him out in the worst way possible.
Season 5 for me was definitely the lowest point for Iris as a character. What I consider to be the WORST scene in the show, which is when Iris said she doesn't care that Nora worked for Thawne, was in this season. And for that, I agree with everything in your list, except I'd swap seasons 4 and 5

I really enjoyed this video! Can you do ranking of seasons of legends of tomorrow? Lot used to be my favourite show, but after season 3 it went downhill. I don’t understand why so many people enjoyed later seasons . They added many boring characters like Mona, they stopped using their powers and especially the humour was really stupid in the bad way
Eric Wallace either must of clapped or was trying to clap the actress who plays Cecile’s cheeks cause it’s no way a small character like her was getting more screen time than the actual hero essentially becoming the main character (if he did get some cheeks I applaud him cause she is fine) but this wasn’t the show to do that (Allegra Cecile & Chester to an extend chhilllame where basically the A Plot Barry Was The B Plot)
I will say, the intro for seasons 6,7,8 and 9 is🔥🔥. The lightning trail goes through all of Barry's memories, family, and fights until it gets to the The Flash title. That intro single handedly kept me watching.
They should've ended the show on season 3. Barry faces his worst enemy - himself, which is a great idea in my opinion. At the end he pays with the ultimate sacrifice for his own mistakes, gets intrapped in the Speedforce Prison forever. And from that they could've made a couple of seasons with Wally West as the new Flash.
But oh well, we got what we got.
I still think Grant deserves better written stories and it's such a shame he's not the Flash in the movie.

I would normally say that I want this show to get a sequel series but it's probably a good thing that it doesn't happen because if Eric Wallace is still the show runner then I don't expect it to be good, but if a fan who has watched all 9 seasons is in charge than I would be down for it!

Ranking The Seasons of The Flash
14. God Complex- Easily the worst the speed force as the villain doesn't make sense and the writing for the forces are just cringey 1/10
13. The Godspeed Imperative- Has so much potential but it didn't have enough time to flash out and godspeed was a disappointing villain. And the dialogue was still very bad 2.3/10
12.Rouge War- Has a very disappointing origin story for red death who was genderbended and red death actress acting was god awful. 4/10
11.A New World- Has a kinda okay villain. It started of good but was ruined by the side character focused episodes and the series finale treating the previous villains like sht 5/10
10. Reflections And Lies- Have some filler episodes even in the arcs and has a genderbended mirror master which is terrible but she is the better ones of the Eric Wallace era and there are also some good episods 6.5/10
9. Negative- Feels very rushed with only 3 episodes, episode 17 was apart of this arc but who cares when it only introduce meena and got itself to this arc or it would be filler, Matt Letcher Was wasted and thawne was at his worst 7.2/10
8. Season 5- Good but the flash costume is bad and the season long storyline was interesting with thawne manipulating Nora but Ralph was unnecessary and frost story was mediocre and also sometimes Nora can get annoying 7.8/10
7.Amarggedon- A fun crossover but the characters they chose like Ryan choi are very badly written and the storyline with thawne doesn't even make sense but still this was fun which saved it and has two good Villain 8.1/10
6. Death Revisited- Has a cool looking villain deathstorm but it was kinda frost villain and ds using Ronnie body was an interesting idea but ds has no motivation what so ever but he still serve his purpose definitely the second best arc 8.5/10
5. Season 4- Has a cool looking flash suit and has good visuals and the enter flash time EPISODE was amazing but the season just contain villains of the week who are waved into the season long storyline and devoe switching body was a bad plot 8.7/10
4.Blood And Truth- The best arc and has a great villain the episodes are amazing and the emotional stakes hit high as Barry knows he's Abt to die 9.2/10
3.Season 3- Flashpoint was disappointing and the finale didn't stuck the landing but all in the middle is awesome everything to do with savitar was great the reveal come way to late but binge watching it still works and this is definitely killer frost and wally best season and gypsy introduction was good 10/10
2. Season 2- Bad start but has gone rocking since ep 2 the crossover isn't amazing but decent zoom is a menace and Is a scary villain and this is Harry best season and the introduction of the multiverse is awesome 10/10
1. Season 1-The best season long storyline in the arrowverse with an amazing villain in reverse flash and the flash origin story was fun to watch and thawne is still the best villain of the show even after his bad appearances throughout but still an amazing start to this show 10/10
The saddest part about this list is that the flash truly went out with a whimper, not a bang. It will be remembered as a terrible show not a good one. RIp

From s1 to s9 the flash started amazing than it went downhill every season, its immaculate how they didn't learn from their mistakes and did the opposite of learning from their mistakes
You should do a top 10 list for non main villains (weather wizard, captain cold, trickster, etc)

The one complaint I've always had about the show was the fact that Barry Allen felt he had to get someone's trust by revealing his identity. Even if it was a bad guy. It's an unrealistic plot device that by telling him his real name or unmasking would defuse a crisis situation. It's like he does not think these people will not go to social media to cash in on his secret. It's like he didn't give a shit about his own secret. What happened to that vibrational vocal cords trick he used in season one and two? That was cool, and it made sense for him to disguise his voice in the most logical way. When he drops this trick, it's like he didn't give a damn whether somebody at the precinct recognize his voice, or even recognize his facial features, since he also started vibrating his face. I honestly thought the quality of the series started to go down with season four. It's like the costume got better while the writing got worse. I reviewed this series up until season seven. But I still watched the series until it's inclusion in the hopes that the writing would pick up in quality. Sadly, it wasn't the case. I wanted the finale to show Wally west taking over as the flash, while Barry and iris focused on raising Nora for a while. And there was always a chance to have the rogues team up to take on the flash. They wasted captain cold and heat wave as characters, just the wasted mirror master and mirror monarch or the top. The rogues are blue collar criminals only want to focus on the next big score and less on revenge on the flash. They could've had an entire season, but they never bothered to conceive of that possible run. Instead they sent Captain cold and heat wave to legends, and let's not go into that train wreck. Thankfully Grant Gustin's performance never wavered in quality, even though he had to deal with some very bad scripts. Candice Patton also had to deal with misrepresentation and not much focus on her character arcs. A lot of behind the scenes problems. No iris did not belong as the leader of team flash, but we could've seen a lot more of her as a hard-hitting reporter without her being the publisher of a newspaper. I mean she went from being a barista to reporter, and finally publisher in several years. And by no means am I ragging on her; Iris West was portrayed by Candice Patton through the worst of times, and she is a beautiful and intelligent woman. It's just she got very bad, scripts to work with, much like Gustin. Eric Wallace was the most detrimental factor in the closing seasons. And why the hell didn't Cisco make a return in the finale? He's family, so why wouldn't he be there for his best friend becoming a dad? Lastly, I think that the reverse flash origin story should have been covered. It was hinted at and teased, but we never saw that one moment that sent him down that path, and don't give me started on the force quest storyline; even the comic storyline was bullshit. That was filler to give Barry something to do since he was no longer the fastest man alive. Bottom line, I will always be a flash fan, as well as a fan of the show, but the last remaining seasons were a major let down, and I could not connect with the new supporting cast either.

I agree with you entirely, however, I prefer Season 4 over 5, it has the Flashtime, it has a better crossover, it has a better suit, better cliffhanger, better start and a consistent and a better villain

The problem of the Flash is that after 1st 2 great seasons the show went downhill till it became trash . Whereas Arrow was very consistent itself like S4 of Arrow was terrible for me but it wasnt unwatchable like S7 and S9 of the Flash .

I absolutely loved this show for three seasons, hung on for another four, but couldn’t finish it. Just kept getting worse.
Yeah, Season 9 was a mess. They should have started with the cobald blue arc and ended with Barry saving himself from Thawn which ends everything and starts it all at the same time.

While I didn’t inherently hate the later seasons, while not great, I think they made a mistake with Barry and Iris’ kids. In the comics, they’re twins. While not Nora and Bart, are still twins. I however absolutely LOVE the idea of Bart being Barry’s son instead of that stupid idea of him being Barry’s grandson from way in the future who came back in time. Yes, Bart and Nora both come back. But it still works better with Bart being his son rather than his grandson. Another issue I had, is with Cobalt Blue/Eddie Thawne. They should have revealed something that probably would have been a GREAT twist. Eddie’s motivation for becoming Cobalt Blue in the show is LITERALLY because Iris rejects him even though she’s currently married to Barry. But in the comics Malcolm Thawne, Whom Eddie is assumably based off of, is actually Barry’s twin brother. That would have been a great reveal. Making it so that also adds to Barry’s trauma and the realization that he is, in fact, related to, in my opinion, his greatest enemy. Eobard Thawne! The Reverse-Flash!
I really liked the first 5 seasons including the Savitar story and Nora introduced. The problem with later seasons, the budget for effects was reduced a lot, so stories dragged on in melodrama and less time for being superheroes, and effects were lackluster at times. Other series like Stargirl also had budget cuts, but did have some standout effects and battle scenes even in the final episode. Stargirl's first season had a huge budget and it showed. Flash was very good in early seasons. Cisco leaving did not help though in Flash. Like all series though characters come and go. Sometimes return. There were standout episodes like Flashpoint story idea, and Enter Flashtime (where a nuclear bomb goes off threatening to destroy the city, and Barry desperately trying to find a way to stop its bomb expansion at hyper speed Flashtime seemingly slowing down time.)

Nice thing about Arrow was that even though there were a few weaker seasons in the middle, it began and ended well, with Season 5 being great to keep viewers’ interest

I mostly agree with your rankings except I would switch S7 and S9 placements since S9 is bad if you consider that it is the final season, and S5 is better than S4 for me and S4 is tied with S6 imo.
Maybe it's caused I skipped half of S7 but I still have no idea why Deon had jet black hands. I don't remember them looking that way at the start of the forces arc....
I know that some people have a problem with the more villian-of-the-week-formula-parts of season 1-3. That’s totally cool with me, but personally, I have NO problem with it.
Let me explain: When you have a superhero-movie, you usually have 1-2 villians and 3 if the studio is Sony. (*Cough* the amazing Spider-man 2 & Spider-man 3). Which makes sense! You usually only have 1 story per movie.
But when you have a superhero-show, you have a lot more time and can use more villians from the hero’s rouges gallery.
If you only had the hero and main villian for the entire season, it could get boring pretty fast (pun fully intended)
But instead of only having The Flash and Reverse Flash in season 1, you also get Captain Cold, Weather Wizard, Trickster, Heat-wave, Everyman, Girder, Grodd, etc.
That only makes the show more fun, because you get so much more variety in action and storytelling!
season 9 i felt was too rushed, they should've made the last ep a whole new arc, i felt the villians were defeated by plot armor and too quickly.
Honestly I really enjoyed seasons 1-4, but every season after that had really good parts and really bad parts, with the amount of bad parts increasing each season lol

I kinda hate the power rangers comparisons with the later seasons of the flash...mostly because for all their faults power rangers would at least have good fight scenes compared to the weird fight scenes from the latter half of the flash.
