    Just found your video. For your first 911 you made a great choice. The last/best of the 997 generation for n/a non-GT cars. You are correct in that every new 911 owner will have to go through a period of getting to know the mannerisms of a rear engined car. For me racing and driving Porsche cars for almost 20 years is a great joy. The 911 is unique in that you have to learn patience on tight corner entries, how it reacts on lift throttle oversteer and trail braking, and how to get on the power on corner exit. All of these are very different than front engine or mid engine cars. But once you get a hang of it you will find there is no substitute. A total blast to drive. Hope you are still enjoying the car, the GTS is a keeper!

      Thanks for the comment and I agree with you even more. I love the GTS and I am going to hang on to it for as long as I can.
      I am still in that process of getting used to the car on the track so I don’t push too hard yet. Hoping to get more seat time this summer.
      I especially love how it sounds and handles the last 2k rpms. It’s like you are in warp speed. :)

    The pendulum effect in the GTS is less so than a C2S because of the wider rear track.

      I have not driven the C2S but I believe that 🙌🙌 GT3RS on the other hand 🤯🤯

      I bought a 997.2 c4s for this reason. I needed a little more security.

    For me the under steer coming out of the turns takes a bit more attention.

    So, he's redlined it and reports "IT DOESN'T FEEL LIKE THE CAR IS SHAKING" and "IT FEELS LIKE THE CAR CAN TAKE MORE". What, do you think there'd be some warning (shaking? or moaning?) before a piston kisses a valve? I can't wait for future episodes.

    Do you think 4 GTS would be better option? I am just looking for one and don't know what to go for.

    • @thedevthing
      @thedevthing  Місяць тому +1

      I think both options are great. However the 2GTS is more rare. A wide body rear wheel drive.
      Thank you for watching the video from ages ago 😃

    I owned my Carrera S, 997 for two years and never had the tailend go out from beneath me. What tires are running? I had Pirelli 305s in the rear.

    • @thedevthing

      +Frank Armstrong thanks for the comment and congrats on owning a 911 for 2 years. I guess it depends on how you drive. If you watch ua-cam.com/video/hR6_HimOrw4/v-deo.html around 1:47, you will see how I compensate for the oversteer. It also depends on so many other factors, tire pressure/temp, road surface temp or conditions. Also the 911 drives like no other car I have taken on the track and it's a whole lot of fun as it's playful. I have Micheline PilotSport PS2 and for the most part they seem like good tires and grip well. They are not as wide as yours, it's 295.

    Is the backend trying to come out with all the nannies off? Or in Sport Mode? I just got my first Porsche so I'm curious

    • @thedevthing
      @thedevthing  5 років тому

      In sport mode or if you have a heavy foot on the throttle through the bends, the backend wants to play. In general I think this is just the 911 experience with the 997 models. Did you get the 911 GTS also?

    • @slytherben

      @@thedevthing I have a C4S, I'm guessing that's why I haven't felt the reared moving around on me. I haven't had it that long... I just want to make sure I'm careful since I'm so new to the car

    • @thedevthing
      @thedevthing  5 років тому +1

      @@slytherben the AWD will be a lot less playful in the rear end. What I explain is a RWD attribute. Either way, its a good idea to get used to the new ride, before trying some hooliganism. lol
      Congrats on the new ride and enjoy.

    What year is your car?

    • @thedevthing
      @thedevthing  5 років тому +1

      It's a 2011. The GTS was only available as 2011 and 2012. Kind if a short run relative to the 991 GTS models.

      @@thedevthing any issues with it so far, like IMS, RMS or bore stroke? I Just started looking at getting a 997.1 or 997.2 6speed manual (very rare) and just wondering how worried I should be about those issues (listed above).

    • @thedevthing
      @thedevthing  5 років тому +1

      So mine is the 997.2 manual and it took me a while to find one. And the GTS was only with the 997.2. 997.2 addressed all the issues with IMS and RMS and so it was not a concern for me. The car has been driving so we'll and no issues so far touch wood. If you go 997.1 look for the turbo, it does not have the IMS and RMS issues.
      If you get a GTS you are quite safe on those issues. I also managed to get it CPO so it was added peace of mind.

    • @JJs_playground
      @JJs_playground 5 років тому

      @@thedevthing thanks, I really want a RWD only. That's why I'm not looking at the turbo. I'm even considering a Cayman S, and Elise. But the Elise doesn't have the grunt for the long straights at calabogie.

    • @thedevthing
      @thedevthing  5 років тому

      Ah I hear you. I would say a Cayman GTS if you can find one would be an awesome pick. The unfortunate part about the 997.2 RWD (wide backend) is that I would limit myself to the GTS or a GT3 manual personally. Sounds like that's what you are thinking too. Then finding one that's good value becomes really hard. If I get the Carrera or Cerrera S I would want to speed more money to update it to look and feel like the GTS or the GT3. If you are into that, then that's a great option too.
