I understood the last quote as "Canaries (the animals) should stay above ground" which I find both sad and creepy.
I also love this line bc to me it's a play on the expression "canary in the coal mine" and I'm not sure how exactly that relates but boy am I thinking about it
@@ccbot5000 well, he was exploring the old institute, then went to the basement. He was fine after seeing the archive area. Can only assume he only became effected after going into the tunnels under the institute. Hence the quote.
@ccbot-le9pb Well, canaries served as a warning sign for toxic gas. The canary dies first to show the miners they need to leave the shaft. RedCanary's fate must have been a warning to the forum to stop poking around in places they shouldn't.
OOOHOHOHOHOH a slightly higher-tech spin? I wonder how the Extinction is doing this time around? I’m just gonna add to this comment as I listen, enjoy my thought process lmao I know the O stands for Office, but my immediate reaction was “Observe Incident And Response”, like the bastards up top are just gonna watch the poor department- Good to hear Alex’s voice acting again, the fade from text-to-speech inflection to that familiar, emotional reading is amazing. 23:14 Oh, this part sounds like it’s recorded from a security camera, you can even hear the focus adjust or the camera turn!! Now, who the hell is responsible? Even the laptops seem to record without permission, given all the conversations we hear. 26:19 HELLO JON! Was worried we’d lose their narration. Is “red canary” a reference to Anglerfish-?? Canaries SHOULD stay above ground. Ah, the Magnus Institute is a Victorian nuthouse. Oh shit. Who’s doing cult stuff in the archives? Like they're slamming down the roof of a coffin or stone slab rather than closing a tape. So terrifying
A lot of things jumped out at me as a returning listener. 1) Sam is familiar with the magnus institute 2) Sam's first day was january 9th 2024 3) A focus in technology. I wonder if the extinction is involved.
The extinction focuses a lot on old things right? Like you’re walking thorough a wasteland and you see a broken tv? Are the old monitors and systems a part of that? Also what is the significance of jan 9th
Spoilers for this episode below!!! When I heard Martin's voice, I paused and psychically fist bumped in the air knowing that my baby is still alive! (?)
In this fandom, the closest thing we get to comfort is our favorite character being "alive(?)" because we heard them shoved into a computer reading tales of horrors.

Theory about the potential voice of "Augustus" Spoilers for TMA Episode 200 below. If Noriss is Martin, and Chester is John, could the third voice, Augustus, be Jonah/Elias? The main connection I see is that John and Martin were the ones in the tower when the Fears were catapulted across the multiverse, and so was a possibly not quite dead Jonah Magnus.
@@SorchaSublime Good point, but maybe he just had to be permanently unconscious and therefore incapable of ever feeling fear again, which seems to be the only real criteria for being an avatar.
Рік тому+14
@@elliesteele2027 That depends on the type of unconsciousness. If it's like sleeping, being under anaesthesia or a light coma, the person can still dream and therefore feel fear (while dreaming). If it's an unconsciousness with little brain activity (only maintaining essential body functions but nothing else), then yes, he can't feel fear not even in dreams or hallucinations.
This is so so cool. Love how you’re using a different but similar way of explaining why we hear it- computers instead of tapes. And it’s still playing into the “old technology” aspect of the Fears from TMA, while bringing it forward to the future. Maybe the Fears are evolving in an ever evolving world, or maybe they always worked differently here. And the mics are turning on by themselves even as early as episode 1! And the new format for “Statements” is very interesting, and I like the classification system. Very much looking forward to the future. This is going to be very interesting

I swear only rusty quill can make me attached to characters after one episode. Also that first computer voice (Norris) was definitely Martin, and Chester sounds exactly like Jon, so that’s certainly interesting. Anyways, anyone what to place bets on who dies first?
colin kickin it makes sense, but he seems to be messing with the program norris, chester, and agustus belong to, so he may be here for longer than sasha. gwen, sam, and alice will stay for a long time, they seem the most main-charactery. i feel leah (is that her name?) eye boss lady will either die very quickly (giving gwen her position) or will have an unusual amount of plot armor

God, going immidiately from MAG 200 to this is... Something. I really hope the TTS voices being Martin and Jon is significant. Maybe my boys were just pulled into some alternate universe existential computer scape rather than fucking dying but I'm definitely not getting my hopes up 😭
Man, I'm going crazy with how fast my mind is running after this and the next episode! Spoilers for TMA below!!! I have a theory that the Magnus Institute of Manchester was burned down by a previous Archivist/Institute staff member. In the TMA timeline/universe, Gertrude tried (and failed) to burn down the Magnus Institute to prevent Elias from completing the Watcher's Crown. I think that, in this universe, whomever was the Archivist in 1999 succeeded in destroying the institute to prevent their version of Jonah/Elias, though I think this universe's Jonah/Elias made it out alive, and went on to found the OIAR!
Also to add, I wonder if The Web is the one controlling the audio again... Because these are being recorded digitally, and that has less of an analog to web via the tape. I'm kinda not even sure if all 14/15 of the fears are staying the same in this new universe. (Spoilers for the next episode of Protocol!!!) In this episode we seem to have a file by "Noris" (Martin) about The Stranger, and a file by "Chester" (Jon) about The Eye, but in the next episode we have a file of what seems kind of like The Flesh, (Especially given the Jared Hopworth gym MAG from TMA) but also feels like it has hints of The Stranger in it, so I wonder if new, blurrier lines will be drawn between The Fears. If so, I'm gonna call the fear from the next episode "The False Face/I Am Not Perfect". I could just be getting overactive with theories, but it doesn't hurt to guess.
Interesting theory. Something else of note is that the computer systems the OIAR uses (Windows NT 4.0) came out in 1996, 3 years before this world's Magnus Institute burned down. Meaning the Freddy program and all its weird shit predates the end of the Institute.
@@dragonicdoom3772That's a very interesting point! Though (and I could just be being dumb) I don't think it was stated when the OIAR was founded, so either timeline of events is very much possible.
@@dull_demon4717yeah, that really has me thrown for a bit of a loop. Alice stated that there were 3 voices "Noris" (Martin) "Chester" (Jon) and "Augustus" (?), I'm especially curious about who Augustus' voice will be, maybe Jonah/Elias! (or even Annabelle Caine, Augustus being a masc name doesn't mean their voice belongs to a masc person.)
My current theory is that "Chester" and "Norris" (and likely the other voice we haven't heard yet) are John and Martin (or their spirits or whatever, either way, they're trapped in the computer). At the end of TMA, it was implied that they were no longer in the universe, taken along with the fears. It also would make no sense for this to be the same universe/world as TMA, since iirc, TMA took place around 2018. The email talking about the ruin was from 2022 and mentioned that the Magnus Institute burnt down 20 years ago, so the timeline doesn't match up. I don't know, I really have no idea, this just popped into my head throughout the episode. Obviously, this is just the first episode, so there isn't much to go off. I have more ideas about where the plot might go/how the story will develop, but I don't want to be wrong about *everything*
oh no it definitely became NOTICEABLY and CONSIDERABLY more "person-y". it started out actually sounding like a tts made from sampling alex's voice and gradually became full-on voice acting with emotions, inflections, pauses for emphasis etc. very fascinating

New obsession unlocked! I am so freaking excited for this! I was unfortunately late to Magnus archives when it was first coming out, but oh my goodness am I excited to be caught up now! Let’s see where the story goes!
Not sure if this will mean anything but “Samama” is an Arabic name that means “happy spring” and “Khalid” (also Arabic) meaning “eternal,” “everlasting” or “immortal” So Sam’s name means “happy spring eternal” (Let’s hope it stays that way-)
Mind: lost Heart: tatters Hotel: a safehouse in Scotland Hecking STELLAR acting in this one, thoroughly enjoyed every second. The character dynamics at the party were amazing!! Alice and Sam are easy favourites. "Norris" and "Chester" are such a welcome return... and the usernames in the second statement are amazing.
Definitely something to do with the stranger. Red, the opposite of green, seems like a good fit for The Stranger- the opposing force for The Eye. In the trailer, the interviewer person (I can’t remember her name, RIP) asked if Sam had seen anyone die, and then asked if he had seen something “stranger” and yeah… yeah ALSO DOLLS WITH HUMAN SKIN
Ahh, it’s so good to be back! Listening to this has hit me with tma nostalgia, it feels odd but also very comforting in a way. So many interesting things right off the bat! Either way, I love their relationship and interactions! Genuinely seem like good friends, and I’m already loving their dynamic. I cant wait for the emotional torment this podcast’ll put me through later, hooray! I read over the transcript, specifically the part about Lena’s desk. I wonder what’s up with her? Is this a result of paranormal activity, or something else? Is it a reflection of Jonah Magnus/Elias Bouchard? Speaking of Bouchards, Gwendolyn Bouchard is a very interesting name. Huh. Anyways, she’s very delightful! Hope to see more of her! :D I’ve got some vague thoughts on Sam and the Magnus Institute, possible connection?

That was exactly what I thought! When she told him not to worry abt it I was like “you should definitely worry abt it lol”
I'm screaming. I'm clawing at the walls and throwing my homophobic vase at my weirdly intricately carved table. Going insane. Experiencing the unknowing.
I literally just finished the podcast a couple days ago (and subsequently fell into a weird funk I didn't know media could induce)
This is so funny
I listened to half of this episode right after finishing tma a few weeks ago then fell into a pit of sadness and now I've returned to finish it
I just finished TMA today, I'm absolutely running around my enclosure, rattling the bars of my cage and I will straight up bite the next person to talk to me!
On to TMP
Yes, this comment is very relatable.
When the Magnus Institute was described as a victorian asylum I was like: Oooh, you don't know how close you are.
Also, I had to pause and take a sec when I heard Martin and Jon again, I only finished TMA recently so it still hit too hard hearing them.
AHHH LOVING THIS ALREADY
Also, RedCanary talking about the "doors slamming shut" sounds ominously reminiscent of the Magnus Archive's opening.
I was thinking of Michael's spiral doors but I think I'm just desperate for him to be here
The Magnus Archives opening is lights in a warehouse(the archives) turning on/off, not doors!
@@leidensystem Oh thank you !
Didn’t know that, kinda always thought they were doors lol
5:24 - Note to self: Don't get attached to Colin. You will, but don't.
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN!! OH NO!! (don’t answer with any spoiler, I’m going in blind)
@@Sloth21 I have no idea either, I'm finishing my third binge of TMA, so I haven't started on TMP. Still, pretty sure Colin's marked for death. Just a hunch.
@sentienttapioca5409 oh god oh no hes my favorite one so far :(
It’s gonna be great when the TMA boys start really showing their sentience. The new cast is going to freak out so much 😊

hey. ik it isn't been a long time since but i hope you're feeling better soon!

As a public defender I deeply related to working in a severely underfunded governmental job
I like Lena and Gwens dynamic. It’s like a world where Gertrude was Elias’s boss.
OG Elias off the entire plantation, maybe
I do NOT want to think about the pain that Martin and Jon are in. I mean think of MAG 65 (bianary) and how much pain that guy was in.
I WOULD LIKE TO BE HAPPY FOR HEARING THEM AGAIN, BUT I STILL THINKING ABOUT THAT CHAPTER.
Im just gonna make a list of quotes I thought were great or scary
3:13
"what keeps your body upright?"
"Spite and coffee."
4:13
"Boooo"
"Don't boo me, I created you and I can destroy you."
6:12
"Now, I was just telling Sam that he can expect supportive co-workers here at the O.I.A.R."
"Oh yeah, we're a real family. I'm your cool sister, Gwen's your uncool sister, Lena's your emotional distant mother, Ted's the uncle that just got another job and Colin's the family's grumpy IT major."
33:31
"Canary's should stay above ground."
I understood the last quote as "Canaries (the animals) should stay above ground" which I find both sad and creepy.
@ honestly, wasn't sure how to spell the bird name, so went with the y.
Anybody else kinda wish they had their job? I’d have zero problem shuffling and sorting thru spooky stories
OOOHOHOHOHOH a slightly higher-tech spin? I wonder how the Extinction is doing this time around? I’m just gonna add to this comment as I listen, enjoy my thought process lmao
I know the O stands for Office, but my immediate reaction was “Observe Incident And Response”, like the bastards up top are just gonna watch the poor department-
Good to hear Alex’s voice acting again, the fade from text-to-speech inflection to that familiar, emotional reading is amazing.
OH MY FUCKING GOD AAAHHSHSHAHAHAHAHAAH “are those eyes?” OF COURSE THEY ARE WELCOME TO THE CLUB FELLAS

Has anyone else pointed out how much more OMINOUS the main theme is at the start? Like DAMN THAT GOES SO HARD. Feels like the leadup to a murder mystery or horrible event rather than the Archives' intro that feels more like a conspiracy theory. Like they're slamming down the roof of a coffin or stone slab rather than closing a tape. So terrifying

A lot of things jumped out at me as a returning listener.
1) Sam is familiar with the magnus institute
2) Sam's first day was january 9th 2024
3) A focus in technology. I wonder if the extinction is involved.
The extinction focuses a lot on old things right? Like you’re walking thorough a wasteland and you see a broken tv?
Are the old monitors and systems a part of that?
Also what is the significance of jan 9th
@@Faulk425 yall put way too much stock in aesthetics for these things

I got so many goosebumps when the magnus theme just started casually playing in the background :0
The music in this new series is just ✨ peak ✨
It sounds like bowsers laugh

Gwen: “Nepotism, is it?”
Alice: “I learned from the best!”

Theory about the potential voice of "Augustus"
Spoilers for TMA Episode 200 below.
If Noriss is Martin, and Chester is John, could the third voice, Augustus, be Jonah/Elias?
The main connection I see is that John and Martin were the ones in the tower when the Fears were catapulted across the multiverse, and so was a possibly not quite dead Jonah Magnus.
jonah had to be fully dead for jon to assume the role of Eye pupil though?
@@SorchaSublime Good point, but maybe he just had to be permanently unconscious and therefore incapable of ever feeling fear again, which seems to be the only real criteria for being an avatar.
I REALLY want og Elias
Ohh maybe, also the implication of eye-damage to RedCanary could totally be Jonah stealing their eyes (if he is alive and can do that)
This is so so cool.
This is going to be very interesting

waited so long. Absolutely worth the wait. I've gone through the whole Magnus Archives about 10 times since it finished. I love it, best podcast ever.
I swear only rusty quill can make me attached to characters after one episode.
Also that first computer voice (Norris) was definitely Martin, and Chester sounds exactly like Jon, so that’s certainly interesting.
Anyways, anyone what to place bets on who dies first?
The guy whose working on the app.
@@an8strengthkobold360 I’m currently betting on Alice, but I can see him being right aswell
colin kickin it makes sense, but he seems to be messing with the program norris, chester, and agustus belong to, so he may be here for longer than sasha. gwen, sam, and alice will stay for a long time, they seem the most main-charactery. i feel leah (is that her name?) eye boss lady will either die very quickly (giving gwen her position) or will have an unusual amount of plot armor

(Spoilers for the next episode of Protocol!!!)
In this episode we seem to have a file by "Noris" (Martin) about The Stranger, and a file by "Chester" (Jon) about The Eye, but in the next episode we have a file of what seems kind of like The Flesh, (Especially given the Jared Hopworth gym MAG from TMA)
but also feels like it has hints of The Stranger in it, so I wonder if new, blurrier lines will be drawn between The Fears.
Another theory to add on is our Archivist and Martin speaking through the technology
Also this version of the institute was in Manchester. But remember the one John worked for was in london.
@user-up2qz6pu4x True. I assume there isn't one in London, though. I feel like one of the characters would have mentioned it?
I was so caught up in The Lore of it all I didn’t notice that the pub they go to after work is open from 6 to 9 am (at least according to Alice)
Happens. The Press Club in Manchester used to be open 11pm until 6am. Was awful, but still.
@@VelvetMetrolink yeah it’s not that i was skeptical about the hours i just hear 69 and go “lol”. It’s a Pavlovian response at this point
39:51 say the line, Jonny!
OH YEAAAAAAH!!! THE HOES GONNA LOOOVVEE THISSS
did norris' voice become less robotic as he spoke or am i going crazy????
oh no it definitely became NOTICEABLY and CONSIDERABLY more "person-y". it started out actually sounding like a tts made from sampling alex's voice and gradually became full-on voice acting with emotions, inflections, pauses for emphasis etc. very fascinating
@@harperhale-gibson1102 yeah, wonder if thats gonna be an in universe thing or is just a audience heard thing

Let’s see where the story goes!
Same but at least I’m here now
I know! I just finished TMA with only 7 months of the begining of TMP
Not sure if this will mean anything but “Samama” is an Arabic name that means “happy spring” and “Khalid” (also Arabic) meaning “eternal,” “everlasting” or “immortal”
So Sam’s name means “happy spring eternal”
(Let’s hope it stays that way-)

Hecking STELLAR acting in this one, thoroughly enjoyed every second. The character dynamics at the party were amazing!! Alice and Sam are easy favourites. "Norris" and "Chester" are such a welcome return... and the usernames in the second statement are amazing.
I've never heard a text to speech voice bleed into natural speech before. It's unnerving and I LOVE IT!!!
Absolutely sobbing. It's finally here! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I just finished re-listening to the magnus archives yesterday.
I will start binging this now.
litteraly felt like crying hearing jonny/alexs voices again
That FEELING of being listening to this and PERKING UP EVERY TIME YOU HEAR SOMETHING THAT MIGHT BE SLIGHTLY RELATED TO TMA AND GOING "OOOOOOOOO"
New creepy intro music, the Eye going ham on some electronics, and a whole cast to memorize. I can't wait for more!
My happiness is unbounded and my joy is limitless
The way the eyes popped out of my head when I heard the words "Magnus Institute Ruins" in class...
"Anyone know what's up with the Magnus Institute?"
*BOY, DO WE EVER-*
Definitely something to do with the stranger. Red, the opposite of green, seems like a good fit for The Stranger- the opposing force for The Eye. In the trailer, the interviewer person (I can’t remember her name, RIP) asked if Sam had seen anyone die, and then asked if he had seen something “stranger” and yeah… yeah

Ahh, it’s so good to be back! Listening to this has hit me with tma nostalgia, it feels odd but also very comforting in a way.
So many interesting things right off the bat! Love the formatting so far as well! From now on every week will just be a restless wait for the next episode to come out-yay to that 😀

Gonna avoid the comments until I’m finished, then add a few of my thoughts. Very hyped!
Edit:
hoooly cow. Are Sam and Alice exes? Not sure if I heard that quip right.
I’ve got some vague thoughts on Sam and the Magnus Institute, possible connection?
