The BBC 2 continuity announcer was Michael Stirrup.

This was still in the middle of the infamous 1979 ITV Strike - since 10th August all ITV regions apart from Channel Television were off air. This meant BBC 1 & BBC 2 had huge audiences. However the BBC came under fire for bad summer schedules, but the BBC said just because ITV went on strike, it didn't mean there was extra money for summer schedules. Come late September the BBC autumn schedules kicked in and things improved. ITV wouldn't return for another month, on 24th October.
