Very impressive after 2 years off!
Thank you.
Hi Phillip, glad you've finally made it back on court. Where are you based currently? Read on your website you were based in Spain at one point. Are you still there, or have you moved elsewhere?
Just curious given you've only just been able to get back on court, and was wondering where that was.
Hi Rob, I am still in Spain. The court in my town (not sure about elsewhere in Spain) has been closed since March 2020 and I have been visiting the sports centre every month or so to see if it was open and was very happy to find it was.
I've been using and loving the Xamsa racquets for a while. What did you think of it?
I liked it the first time I played with it and was disappointed when the string broke so quickly. The restring is much tighter than I like and I felt there was a lot of vibration. I decided to go back to the Ashaway because my timing is not right yet and the off centre hits didn't feel nice. I really like what Xamsa is trying to do, but I think it might be a little too stiff for me. Once I have hit a lot more, I'll try to do a proper review of it.
You've certainly not lost your control and touch - lovely to see you go through your drills.....!
yes, I am very pleasantly surprised that even after 2 years my timing seems pretty good, although I have noticed some drills are harder than they should be.
Absolutely outstanding ... Thanks coach. It’s been 14 months off for me - your video got me stoked. For a guy that’s been off for two years you looked fabulous - well done!
Thank you. I have to admit, the quality of my timing surprised me too. Trouble is, it probably won't get much better!
Congrats coach.....I can't wait to be back to the court myself!
I hope the return comes soon for you.
2 years off and clean hitting again straight away. Nicely done. You mentioned at the end that you now feel impeded by your hip and always will. Can I ask if that is due to an irreparable injury or have you had a replacement or similar operation? I ask as I am booked into a hip replacement op and am really hoping that it will allow me to return to squash at full tilt or close to.
Thanks. I've always been lucky in that after long breaks, my timing was still there.
Now, with regard to my hip, I want to say that lots of people do return to squash after a hip replacement. So, what I am about to say may not apply to you. The surgeon told me from the beginning to never go on a squash court again. I presumed that to be what he told all his patients. I told him that all I wanted to do was hit the ball alone and make some videos, but he still said no.
The operation seemed a success but due to the way it was done I was left with a limp and often almost the same pain as before. They my scoliosis got worse, possibly due to the limp and I am now worse off than before the operation. I am fighting with my local health service for help but because the Red Cross did the operation they are saying they can't help me, but the Red Cross won't help me unless I go through the local health service.
The whole experience has been soul destroying. As nobody can find the reason for the pain and says everything is as it should be. I can't walk more than a 100 metres without pain. I now drive almost everywhere and spend too much time sitting down. I bought a scooter and using that hurts less than walking, but is still not easy.
I do have more range of motion in the new hip, but I wish I had not had the operation. The scary thing is I have to have the other one replaced too. It's not my intention to scare you, but make sure you do plenty of research and ask a lot of questions. I didn't and regret it. That said, the pain was unbearable and at the time I was in a terrible state and felt I had to do.
Anyway, I wish you success and luck.
@@BetterSquash - that's terrible, really sorry to hear of your experience and I hope you are able to get some improvement.
It sounds like the cause of your hip injury/deterioration may be different to mine which could lead to a different result for me hopefully. My ortho is sure I will be able to return to all sport including squash and soccer. Hopefully he is accurate.
@@BetterSquash Hi Philip. Sorry to hear of your hip troubles. Have you looked into natural anti-inflammatories? I have had good success with Black (cumin) seed oil (with high % Thymoquinone) as an anti-inflammatory - it also has the effect of relaxing muscles a little, so I have gained some range of motion (depth in my squat) with it - I always have tight hip flexors.
NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) is also pretty good as an anti-inflammatory.
Regards,
Luke
Lovely to see you back on court!
Thank you.
👏
Thanks.
Can we ever see you play a real game against someone?
I don't have any videos of that and I'll never be able to play again - even length games will be impossible. To be honest, I was not a great player. I only remember playing really well 3 times in all my life.
@@BetterSquash hahaha that's funny
Never lose it!
Agreed.
Welcome back
Thank you. Are you able to play?
@@BetterSquash
Not playing since 2 weeks, big chance that i won't play anymore due to chronic disease that is troubling my normal life activities right now. Wish me luck 🤲😁
Excited to watch your videos on court again 😍
Nice! You do those side to sides without bounce like a walk in the park.
Yes, I obviously chose the clip that I did well, but most of the side to side volleys I did went surprisingly well. I do love that drill.
