I already have a job as a web developer I completed a code bootcamp but I feel that my job opportunities are very limited due to my lack of a degree. Also, getting a bachelor's is also one of my life goals. Thanks for sharing, it is very helpful.
I'm doing the odin project that's all I have been doing for web dev I'm worried I might not have any opportunities to get into a tech career with just a portfolio showing my knowledge. Maybe I should get a degree
I've been watching your videos since mid-July, and I'm glad you finally found something! I started my SWE program on Sept. 1st with about 50% transferred over. I have also been solving LeetCode problems and growing my LinkedIn network daily. I hope to find something in the industry as fast as you did. Congrats, you earned it! Hope everything goes well for you!
@@SolsticeStudiosTM I would suggest getting as many credits transfered in and out of the way before starting. Specifically whatever satisfies the aws, project+, and software security and testing courses. They are terrible to say the least. Good luck!
I think the reason you probably struggled to get your first job is because of the lack of internships and you were applying to positions that needed more experience. I've heard that full stack and back end Software Engineer jobs are very hard to get without real job work experience. The best route to take if you have no experience is apply to a Front End web developer job first. Then you can transition into Full Stack, then when applying for your third job you can go for bigger Back end software engineer positions. Only tech geniuses with an amazing portfolio will be able to land a back end role without work experience.
Back end and full stack developer jobs may generally be harder to get than front end developer jobs however that are a lot of other factors than just that i.e. company, industry, economy, etc. You are right that it is much harder to get a job with limited internship experience, which is why I did the preintern program and got 6 months of internship experience before starting my full time job. I think the hard part is getting past the gatekeeper who checks your resume and getting into an interview.
For the internship I did, active enrollment in a degree program was not a requirement. However, for most internships, especially paid ones, being actively enrolled in a bachelors or masters program is a requirement.
Hey Christian! I sent a connection request on LinkedIn just now. I graduated from WGU with a software dev degree (right before it became software engineering) on the Java path. I'd like to ask you a few questions about career swapping and your advice in addition to what you covered on this video. Thanks! - Chris
What is the name of the service that places you at places like banks for less pay? I hear "Blank" edge but can't make it out. Thanks for the advice and congrats on your offer!
Amazing video and good to hear! I am currently doing cloud computing at wgu and finished an internship for an IT Specialist role. Its been pretty hard though to find a full time job even with the intern exp and certifications :/
Hi Evan, it is not very time consuming. You could definitely balance it with a full time job. There are some meetings that take place morning to mid day depending on your time zone. Usually only once a week for an hour.

Is Preintern something that can be done in the evenings by a career-switcher with a fulltime job in a non-tech field?

I am just going to be starting getting my SWE B.S in January in hopes to make a career change into this field. What is your LinkedIn? Can we connect?
