This will be the final Dungeonborne video on my channel. This is a great example of how to ruin a game. Hopefully, the competitor games coming out soon don't make the same mistakes.
While I always felt like this game looked like the Wish version of Dark and Darker, it’s never a good thing for competition to fail. That being said, they clearly did it to themselves. Great video Firebox.
@Mustangmuller This game could have still had a playerbase. They only have themselves to blame indeed. I want more competition in this genre, but this obviously wasn't it.
Man this was the game I had the most fun in. Got super into this game and you basically taught me how to play the right way/better. Would always love seeing you upload videos about it, class builds, etc. never had the feeling in a game I did when fighting someone in DB. Was such a thrill getting into a fight and either chasing someone or running away from someone. When it died it was like a break up or loss of a loved one 😂
Bought all the skins, no lifed it pretty hard. I quit playing right around the time you started hosting tournaments. I played in a few then went on a month or so long trip, came back and the game was dead. Still haven’t found a game that gives me even remotely the same feeling. Landed on Day z (completely different game )
It's crazy how Dungeonborne's community was able to recognize an unstable dev team and leave, while Dark and Darker's community developed Stockholm syndrome.
@snowywhistle2114 I think the key difference is DaD is now the only game in this specific niche genre. There is nowhere else to go until more stuff comes out.
There was a lot of things I liked more in this game. The arcadey feel made easier to get into. The beams of rarity colors on chest, mobs, and players (no better feeling then hearing the legendary or unique noise). Lastly the utility (I love the flask and the ice heavy attack with orb). Dark and darker I enjoy in everything else but I want DnD to have some competition as that just best for the players
You missed a huge issue with the game. Playing high level players with Cryomancer builds with life on hit and the hit scan ice curse was disgustingly broken. I'd much rather face the DK LoH over the Cryo with the FoL ring and LoH. That took way too long to fix.
First video game to actively ban Steamdecks. Streamers will always demand a game of Sims among an Arena that fits their metagame dopamine profile. I would rather become a literal prop just to dump on the esport grift.
. Nobody was censoring anything firebox. There's a difference between people giving feedback on issues and players just starting nasty arguments. Sex here, And if it was it was neko, neko just became nothing but a hardass. We were specifically told not to delete posts. But yeah, games beyond cooked. Blame tencent for canceling it, its likely this game wasn't bringing in any money. Don't blame hellhammer. He was just the public face for the game. I don't think he did any actual dev work
It's a shame because the game looked so fun with cool abilities and weapons with special effects and cool consumables. It would be cool if DaD introduced things like that over time, which they seem to be doing based on how crazy sorceerer spells are and the stuff leaked from Ryan's video
Yep alot of people quit during this. Instead of hot fixing it day 1, they waited over a week while the game remained unplayable. This really was a big turning point for losing alot of players
I actually didn't mind the wallhacks on the druid. I played rogue and my buddy played DK. Had over 300hrs in the first month of release. Our issue which made us quit was Life on Hit. So, I turned to maining a priest with full FAIRY purples and constantly heal and shield him while he'd fight the LOH people. It turned out that even pre-nerf FOTL pocket priest could not withstand the power of a full LOH DK opponent, yet we could win against anyone running half LOH or less.. We did not run LOH on his DK because it was too expensive to lose to 3rd parties sometimes. THEN they decided to nerf FOTL even more(where it wouldn't shield him anymore) while keeping LOH broken for opponents, and then it was impossible to win against LOH, so we quit entirely. - We believed there should be 0 healing in the game besides priests and medical supplies in this type of game. Too bad our sweaty, no-life opinion didn't matter, even though it was obviously the correct opinion.
Dark and Darker is starting to make a lot of the same mistakes IMO. All it is going to take is a single dungeon crawling loot extraction game to come out that is at least halfway decent and it would instantly corner the market....
2 years in and the devs still dont know what theyre doing with their game, they keep making flip flop balancing and game direction changes ( most recently cleric nerfs with slight buffs, immedietely reverted the nerfs and kept the small buffs for example). meanwhile the game still has long standing oversights and weird design choices like the weapon balance/design that make no sense and seem like a test build
@@chost-059 still cant see the same mistakes, but good points, I feel like I can still trust them though. They have a lot of love for their game, which you can see if you look at any of their interviews
The game had two red flags off the bat: How they had no plans revealed for monetization until last minute, ended up being mostly free. I suspect they wanted to work with RMTers. Next big red flag was how they badly they were talking about their competitor. True or not, that's the main customer base and not how you attracts customers. Then of course the slow abandonment, taking ages to patch big problems and broken ban system. What a shame, could've been a decent alternative to DaD.
Was a great journey when it was alive! I could never get into DaD because of the games quality and how it feels to play, but Dungeonborne was always a great time! (even if frustrating at times) ive never been so disappointed in a dev team and truly hope for another potential gem like it in the future!
If you played dungeonborne, remember to go remove the spyware that came with it. It's called Ace anti-cheat and you can look up a guide on how to remove it. It is not removed when uninstalling dungeonborne.
They had it at first. Add some combat mechanics to make skill more important. Tighten the controls to feel a little more responsive. Add some interesting skills for a little more variety
Wait thats so funny you mentioned the matchmaking issue because I returned to the game around that time to see how it changed and I sat in ques so long I timed out and thought the game died 💀
Plot twist: The devs only made the game to abuse the RMT and fill their pockets for as long as they could before the game game crashing down around them
It's a shame, I had a blast with this game, even had a bunch of great fights with you. I can't bring myself to get into DaD so I'm hoping legacy goes hard on release!

I used to love this game, I played it non stop even bought the expensive bone skins to help the devs. Too bad they took so long to fix things up, and to me and my friends who used to play it as well it was a shock when they took off our SA server
It’s truly a waste . That game had real potential and just threw it under the bus. I even told my brother the other day that if I had the resources, I would have bought the game and revamped it throughly.
Biggest issues for me were the arcady feel of the game (same problem I have with upcoming legacy), rushers, balance but most importantly I never got a true sense of progression in the game (loot being a big part of that). It was fun for a few hours, but within those few hours it felt like I had seen and experienced everything the game had to offer. Giving me 0 incentive to even play the game anymore, which is not an impression you want to leave with your players especially in games that are very dependent on having a lot of players active at the same time.
this upsets me a lot because I was having a ton of fun in this game. Melee combat in dungeonborne felt a lot more interesting than in DaD with the back and forth a lot of weapons had and feeling more like you could skill diff people. Tbh I just desperately want there to be actual competition to DaD. Hey Firebox, I know that this question is very rare these days but... is Dungeonborne dead!?! 🤣 Life on hit was.... yeah for sure the one thing that killed Dungeonborne for me... I appreciate your detailed view about this former good game.
@richardpagel6959 I think if LoH was fixed soomer it might have prolongued the game, but seeing all the other issues it was probably doomed anyway. Np!
At the very end of the life of the game the only mode you could play was on gray/white castle, not even greens, I was with it to the end but switching to DaD was a good choice
Its such a shame, with dev silence since nov. I actually wanted this game so succeed because it was fun. This games going in my hall of fame for sure. And no, DaD is not a replacement for this game. Its a completely different play style. Edit: The music in the background is literally enough to make me sad. The music of the lobby literally reminds of of LOOT
DB was pretty fun for my first skill based melee looter extraction. I was pretty bad so I didn’t experience the life on hit and other problems because I was still in noob mode. It did get me into DaD tho, so that’s good I guess. The castle map was cool although probably unbalanced
I used to watch you a lot when you played DaD but once you tried to sell us on Dungeonborne being a good game, that did it for me. It was never a good game. It had potential (loved the art style and maps) but the out of the box combat was garbage and if combat feels bad then bad game. You chose to play Dungeonborne over DaD and I think it really hurt your channel, based off the views and such. You're still a good streamer and I'm sure you're gonna do well. Best of luck
@BigSkilletGaming Dungeonborne was still more fun for me than DaD at the time, I will never only play 1 game. Very glad I did especially with how bad some of DaDs updates were. It's honestly better you stopped watching as I don't want viewers who only watch DaD anyways I plan to play other games too so I'd rather build a core audience. Catch ya later
It is really sad, because I really really enjoyed Dungeonborne, even a bit more than Dark and Darker. But the life on hit meta ultimately destroyed the game and took too long to fix.
think we all knew this game was going to die off, i thought it was cool and competition for dark and darker was good, but i never played it expecting it die off so it wasnt worth time investment
I believe I commented on the DB videos many months, maybe even a year ago, that the game would end up failing from not just the problems you mentioned; RMT, broken classes and modifiers, and lazy Devs that had near-to-no communication -- but also that the game was just inferior to others like it, even DaD, on so many levels. Graphically, thematically, progression, class diversity, build diversity, item diversity, sound design, UI design and more were all severely flawed with the game. Hell, the simple fact that hitting something with a weapon made the same sound regardless of the weapon you're using was arguably for me one of the biggest flaws early in to the games life. There was no way to tell what weapon someone was using as you were approaching them because of this. All in all, in the end; it was a massively compounding effect that killed this game. Devs bit off way more than they could chew, and started right off the bat making grandoise promises and telling everyone they would do X, Y and Z only to then go completely radio silent and introduce a tiny patch instead months later.
Dungeonborne gameplay wise was not strictly worse than Dark and Darker, both games had pros and cons. The amount of issues DaD is currently experiencing is a list longer than I could type here (shield desync, weapon hot swap as some examples). That said, the DB devs are really bad in comparison to IM so in the end it never mattered it was bound to fail the way they treated the game
"""""""the core game is great , but that is the end of everything good here....played with a friend and we manage to win the round against all odds , as reward we got accused of cheating by the devs...we both write a support ticket , and no one of us get an answer...this happend a half year ago....no replies , no solution....we didnt get banned , but....the great feeling is lost...another friend tell me , he get kicked out , every time he kills a player... maybe its cuz we all play the " bladerunner" or "sword runner" (not sure the english name) class..... """"" thats my dungeonborne expierence...... i really liked it , but accusing player of cheating , just because the right use of the abilitys is just dogshit......
As a Dad only player i really expected some crazy devs faults. Honestly Dad has so many more problems and devs just doing wrong things, its crazy the game not dead yet
It's crazy how dungeonborne players stayed that much, i'm sorry, but the issues we're too visible, i lasted 2 days, and saw the dual weild sword basic combo, then, a magic duel, and nope... If u stayed more than a week and didnt see how badly it was i'm sorry, ure dumb or we're high on copium xd
@gonzalocornejo9267 you say that as if it's not crazy DaD players have stayed through their updates. I could make an entire video of that too lol. Update 69, multiclassing, +All stat changes constantly, shields broken, weapon hot swap bug, no quiver, no backpack, list goes on. Wouldn't be too hard to do.
I really will never understand how anyone could have ever liked that game, from the first error they did to the last, that first one was enough to make me quit the game… and never even think about playing it again
The real last nail was unfunny hardcore economy of last update - you simply has no reason and no way to farm =\ The game could live even with all other troubles because it was funny action at least
Tbh pvp was hell of fun. Better then DnD. Blocking worked so good wizh shield and weapons. Look at dnd :D was really good pvp..sooo much fun And life on hit was good to counter with dmg on hit gear
You know alot of things from Dark and Darker are store bought right? I think the animations is the wrong thing to look at for why this game just died off the way it did
who let bro cook lmao it has 18k and it spikes up every wipe, unlike this one which has literally one player, also here is a tip: don't play ice caverns. If you want frostlight but HATE so much the map go in gob caves, smash some kids with a felling axe, get troll pelt/spider silk/gold ore and go buy frostlight. Though tbh I find ice caverns quite easy, maybe the ice abyss is harder than crypts but not as bad as inferno now, still I find the ice wyvern easier to kill than f*cking spectral knight using rogue and going FULL melee. sh!t took me 135 attempts, while troll, cyclops were at most 15

- the game gets abandoned and the devs run with the money

Never even heard of the game.
bruh i knew this game was bad after 2 hours of gameplay.
Told everyone this was a Chinese scam.
It is really sad, because I really really enjoyed Dungeonborne, even a bit more than Dark and Darker. But the life on hit meta ultimately destroyed the game and took too long to fix.
@grimmlygr LoH was so bad for the game. It took way to long to fix it. I remember quitting for a few days waiting for the patch to go through
what killed it for me was the feel of combat in dungeonborne felt generic and cheaply made. 0 fluidity in combat.
Felt like a mobile game
@@Just-the-Gameplay exactly on point with that one
Do was this just a bad copy of dark and darker or the other way around
Feels good man
think we all knew this game was going to die off, i thought it was cool and competition for dark and darker was good, but i never played it expecting it die off so it wasnt worth time investment
Roasted. My partner and I played this game and we really, really enjoyed it. Sad to see it go down like that.
Tragic really
What happend to dungeoneborne ??
It got taken out back.
I would like to see you do a 2nd video replying back to all the delusion DaD fans in the comments
Is dungeonborne dead?
"""""""the core game is great , but that is the end of everything good here....played with a friend and we manage to win the round against all odds , as reward we got accused of cheating by the devs...we both write a support ticket , and no one of us get an answer...this happend a half year ago....no replies , no solution....we didnt get banned , but....the great feeling is lost...another friend tell me , he get kicked out , every time he kills a player...
maybe its cuz we all play the " bladerunner" or "sword runner" (not sure the english name) class.....
If u dont want ppl to usw the skill pack , dont put it in the game..
Basically the gameplay was fun and DaD got stale, I imagine that's why alot of us played it
The real last nail was unfunny hardcore economy of last update - you simply has no reason and no way to farm =\
The game could live even with all other troubles because it was funny action at least
Tbh pvp was hell of fun. Better then DnD. Blocking worked so good wizh shield and weapons. Look at dnd :D was really good pvp..sooo much fun
And life on hit was good to counter with dmg on hit gear
The first open beta was so fun just needed a little balancing with skills
That was interesting to watch, especially because I did not enjoy or play the game at all.
@@onosteinfels596 good glad it was still watchable for someone who didn't play it
Damn, i liked the game at first but not something i would play everyday
sad that they cant or dont want to develop the game
At this point it doesn't even matter what they do, they couldn't come back from this. Very sad watching them just abandon the game
I am happy there dungeonborne content is gone 🎉
wow, this sounds exactly like what's happening to dark and darker. no one I started playing with plays anymore.
Step 1: Make a blatant copy of another game
Step 2: There is no step 2
They couldn't even bother to make original animations for it lol.
You know alot of things from Dark and Darker are store bought right? I think the animations is the wrong thing to look at for why this game just died off the way it did
Yeah tbh dark and darker assets were bought in store, that came out when they were getting sued and had to take down the game to win the legal battle
Play dark and darker
that was a shiiiiiiiit
game looked stupid when i saw it. glad i didnt play at all!
lmao this game legit just looks like it plays like ass. cant understand why everyone quit lol
The game was just bad I had to stop watching you for months because you said it was a great game looks like I was right
So this game is dead?
Yes. 21 players online currently as of posting this comment
It has 1 player must be alive.
@@Firebox720 well he can farm and get all the loot. Easy loot
dark and darker is dead they killed it as soon as they made the ice caverns map game is shit now
who let bro cook lmao
it has 18k and it spikes up every wipe, unlike this one which has literally one player, also here is a tip: don't play ice caverns.
If you want frostlight but HATE so much the map go in gob caves, smash some kids with a felling axe, get troll pelt/spider silk/gold ore and go buy frostlight.
Though tbh I find ice caverns quite easy, maybe the ice abyss is harder than crypts but not as bad as inferno now, still I find the ice wyvern easier to kill than f*cking spectral knight using rogue and going FULL melee. sh!t took me 135 attempts, while troll, cyclops were at most 15
@user-zl1vf4me1p bro you talk too much stfu
Games a wannabe dark and darker the fakes never last 😂😂😂 only losers played this game
