Okay...Im a believer now...i get it. This is how an 8 string is supposed to be played. He's now my favorite modern guitarist. And lets not forget everything with Emperor
I think the Emperor guys never had lessons nor know anything about music theory (I may be wrong) but I will never forget my music theory (classical) teacher's face when I showed him the first track from "Prometheus - The Eruption" He said it was one of the most amazing compositions he has ever heard in is life. Ihsahn is a Man of focus, commitment and sheer fucking will! What a beast!
Ihsahn even made chugging work on After because he used it as the foundation for riffing. One of my favorite moments on that entire album starts around the 4-minute mark on "On the Shores". Heavy chugging, sinister riffs, black metal arpeggios, all layered in the same, seemingly effortless way that only someone like Ihsahn can pull off.
To be fair, Euronymous was an amazing guitarist and Ihsahn has obviously had more time to practice his craft. We don't know what insane things Euronymous could have brought to the table later on
I don't know how to like this more. I just keep coming back. So beautiful. And I love how he keeps the rhythm so simple in the chorus, makes the intervals sound so nice.
the best musician of the black metal scene, hands down! never messing around with trve this trve that and that shit, never involved in the crap of the other bm dudes of that era, never romanticizing the scene, always looking forward, pushing his own boundaries and always creative
I hadn't heard anything from Ihsahn since Emperor times, long time ago that was. Anyway, i discovered Leprous and was like wtf they're Ihsahns backing band ( don't know if they're that anymore )? I'm glad to hear Ihsahn has evolved musically and taken new directions. It sounds really good! Talented guy.
@@wardesu2120 sorry dude but this is a total bullshit comment!! I never understand the correlations that trolls try to make in comment sections. Just because the op calls it difficult, which empirically it is, regardless of who you are or what you say, doesn't mean that he can't also play the shit out of it!
Instant click.Emperor-in the nightside eclipse was when black metal clicked for me.And I've been a fan of Ihsahn ever since. That guitar is fuckin sick.Killer video/song.
love how all these formerly black metal musicians have evolved past the edgy hail satan stuff. Dont get me wrong its still interesting music but seeing their music evolve is awesome.
Ancient Metal Guy from Australia . Think ile just chainsaw my hands off . I knew he was good but didnt know he was in that celestial class . Fuck is all I can say .
@T. Zappa Varg is a dusty relic stuck in a time long, long past, clutching desperately to a scene that's mostly grown up and out of its own myopic self-indulgence. Nothing he's done in his sad, forgotten career will be remembered once he's worm food, because he'll have finally stopped talking about himself.
@T. Zappa More than anything Varg sounds jealous in that part of the interview. Pretending that Emperor or Enslaved didn't have any actual influence on the genre is a blatant lie told to comfort his own perceived irrelevance. These paragraphs simply defeat everything he previously said about being more stoic... He still embodies the edgy egocentric elitism that always plagued black metal even though he pretends he changed.
@T. Zappa That's exactly what I was referring to. If this wasn't 25+ years ago his resentment would be justified... He's just digging out skeletons for the sake of it at this point. They inadvertedly created a subgenre and other musicians tagged along to it or claimed it as their own. Same happened with ''the gothenburg sound'' in melodic death metal to some extent.
Christmas is coming and I have a shoppe that will order one for me. Considering that I just picked up the contract of a LIFETIME with a new client. Im. Buying. One. FUCK IT!!!
It is crystal Clear that Ihsahn studied and practiced guitar a lot throughout the years.... he took it very seriously and now is a Monster.... most guitar players are fucking lazy...
Top tier musician, with a top tier instrument, that's what we're looking at here folks.
Top tier like crown royal? Or top tier like Jack Daniels?
Ihsahn is a beast.
literally,,,,i appreciate his talent, just not his views
@@lunarmist428 What views are those?

Black Metal + Progressive Metal = GREAT
let's just take a minute to remember the Ihsahn plays this AND sings at the same time.
cygnusbass you should check out beyond creation.
Cygnus toured with them.
And Necrophagist :v ....
Or Obscura
or Sarah Longfield

They had plenty of music seminars, in fact that's how they met in a music lesson
5:27 you can feel the cold and where this man is coming from musically and spiritually. Incredible transfer
if everyone would use an 8 string like he does, I'd like them way better. no chug fest, only riffs

Hey man I love both! Ihsahn rocks and this shit sounds great but I also love some brainless 0-1-4-3 monkey riffs man.
I notice in forums often that people speak poorly of blackstar amps... i think the real problem is that they are not Ihsahn!
that's kind of the problem with everyone in this world tbh
Picking hand with those alternate pickings is a joy to watch.
I think I’ve listened to this 82 times. His record Arktis is amazing. For some reason reminds me of my trip to Iceland
That guitar is incredibly gorgeous. Fantastic work.
I need celestial violence playthrough. i need to know whats going on in that chorus. Those are some mighty chords :D
Yes!
Euronymous can only dream of playing this good.
To be fair, Euronymous was an amazing guitarist and Ihsahn has obviously had more time to practice his craft. We don't know what insane things Euronymous could have brought to the table later on
@@hersheypants731 very true
He can't dream. He's dead
Euronymous is more of a legend than you will ever be. your a fool.
Sometimes I think Ihsahn is an alien from the Guitargods planet. The guy is incredible.
WE WANT MORE!
I don't know how to like this more. I just keep coming back. So beautiful. And I love how he keeps the rhythm so simple in the chorus, makes the intervals sound so nice.

Iconic musikant. Min respect og kjærlighet..
Musician at the best, real talent, not only show off guy. Respect.
What amazes me is how "at home" he feels playing an 8-string and making incredible music (seemingly) effortlessly on it.
practice practice practice!
Great tone, technique and musicality! Good work

The moment I realised that his guitar is worth my whole house ...
@Undercoverbus He lives in a Honda Civic.
That's a NICE guit-fiddle!
Hail the Emperor of Metal, Ihsahn!
This guy is just absolutely fantastic! Hails IHSAHN!
What an absolute legend!!!
I’m not really a big fan of Black Metal vocals but I can give credit where credit is due, damn this is good
Man is a beast on guitar ,vocals and keyboards
Most guitarists now: Cool an 8 strings, let’s djent!
Insahn: Yeah let’s not do that kiddo.
That was amazing.
Very nice guitar... and an awesome artist of our times!
Such a brilliant and talented musician!
!!IHSAHN IS FCKN GOD!! Sick axe as well!!! Thanks for the video Aristide. Hope there's more coming! Cheers!
That is one gorgeous guitar... Especially this color and the cyan one.
actually one of the sickest players
gah i love this dude so much. i wish i could afford one of those guitars lol.
How to make the crazily difficult look easy and effortless here.
it is for him, it isn't for you, that's the difference, subconscious thought and fretboard theory.

I want that 8 string so bad.
I can’t wait for mine 080s Ihsahn is so good
Excellent musicianship, congratulations, now i'm obligated to learn this song on my 8-string haha
Absolute genius.
perfection! Nice axe too. If I was only able to shred like this on the guitar...
What a fantastic idea to let us see the artist playing his own song like this
This guitar is astounding
Guitar GOD! Amazing musician!!!
Anyone know the brand of chair he is using, looks damned comfortable for rehearsing and tracking....?
Not heard this song in years!
This needs way more views!
Love that first solo
It must be a comfortable chair.
One of the best playing of him
Looks like one hell of a guitar. So sad to know that it will be near impossible to get my hands around one of these here in Brazil.
Beautiful guitar.. Nice song too
I have to say the guitar looks beautiful.
He’s my favorite musician ever

It's been a while since I've heard something good! This song is freaking awesome and so is the guitar! #Goals haha!
He just downpicks the while riff...that's solo gnarly

awesome guitarfinish 😊
I watch this every day to remind myself how much I suck!
Enormous !
Why doesn't Ishsahn have a signature model out from you guy's ? That would be so dope !
Not really a thing that Aristides does, lot's of custom option though.
Perfect!!!
So now the guys in Leprous have an even more similar rig setup to Ihsahn
amazing
Взрыв мозга!
So creative artist
The nonchalance is beautiful. Too easy for him.
Stunning
Does anyone know the exact model of BlackStar head Ihsahn is using? This tone is massive. Holy hell.
Genuine Genius
Totally beatuful and perfect ejecution
His playing style reminds me a lot of John Petrucci. And that is a good thing.
impressive
Ihsan the best
Some day I will get an Aristides. Some day
What a genius.

FUCK IT!!!
It's like Opeth and Textures had a baby.
ihsahn could be their father
Opeth might be his brother, textures might be his son, Ihsahn with Emperor is at 90' decade

The Source of Icon E is Ihsahn.
