- This is a review of the new-isa Hauser XO 20, a retractable ballpoint pen that is a follow-up to the excellent Hauser XO, a pen sold primarily in India, but that I'd really enjoyed over the past year or two.

I too use a cap version of this pen. I really don’t know how Hauser made this great pen in such a low price. Amazing.

Hey mate I know most people don't know this, but I will explain why they are marketed as German. Take this with a grain of salt, but I've spent a lot of time for work and know quite a few locals
There is this "trend" in India that German writing utensils are of a certain quality. Don't know/care when this started, but when I was there 20 years ago, a black pencil by "Faber-Castell" was the really nice one many stores had, although I can't say how the schoolchildren felt about it at the time. It was around 3x the price of the middle shelf items, which for India at the time was decently expensive for something that wears as fast as a pencil, when children go to school for damn near 16 hours a day (unless poor and can't afford "tutoring" after school)
Anyway, I know it's not much information, but there has just been a trend of it for a while, somewhat like "German cars" being built well developed in the US, although I doubt that's the most pervasive idea now. But compared to British cars? Yeah you didn't require taking a repair kit with you in a German car
I believe the trend has continued to be upheld by the "foreignness," like how KFC and McDonald's are quite nice in Asian countries, but in the US some people will refuse to eat at KFC (because they are elitists, because it's not bad at all. Good? I don’t know)
So companies like Flair took their opportunity & bought the IP. I actually don't mind it, other than it is nice to recognize the value of local brands, but they are in all but name it seems.
By the way I bought the capped version because I remembered it based on this video, and it is incredible for the price. Unfortunately I need easy 1 handed use for work, but I'll probably just run 2 pens until I can figure out an alternative for the Hauser as I really don't think I can deal with the tip being any worse than the Hauser regular. It's not bad, very good, but I can't settle for less now. And I quite like the MATTE plastic (thank you Hauser), it's sleek enough without being slippery or too thin. Hopefully they come out with a retractable version that matches the smoothness eventually
These cheap pens from Hauser are actually splendid.
Looks fairly smooth. Diameter looks too small for my hands though. What do you think is the smoothest ballpoint refill? Jetstreams?
Yeah, Jetstream 1.0 is my go to for smooth, high quality writing. You can get a wide rollerball, but they become much less practical in my opinion.
Is there a JetStream refill that fits a Parker Jotter pen?

Is it a typical smooth-writing low viscosity oil-based ink ballpoint made in India or it's a product line still made in Germany? PS. Indian company Flair (FLAIR WRITING INDUSTRIES PVT LTD) owns pen brands like "Hauser" and "Pierre Cardin" for several years now with most of manufacturing done in India.
Thanks for the info about the ownership of the Brand. They must've bought the name for clout then. Hauser is in fact a German pen maker, but you cannot buy their products in stores or online. They only sell to companies that want their branding on a pen and sell them in bulk. So only the brand name is what originated from Germany. This product or the whole line does not exist in the German company's lineup. As a German I also never have heard of any famous Hauser pen that is noteworthy somehow.
@@lelandfitz1762 Hi there. Really interesting for the information you shared here. Im from Europe too and i love the German ballpoints like Senator and Schneider. Ive been using Senator for decades and is still the best ballpoint for me. Sadly enough i owned couple Schneider pens and they all came from the local store with faulty tips... I never got problems with the Schneider Tops 505 M blue\black, but on the other hand with Tops 505 F i got some with defective tips. With Senator i never got issues. And im curious are those companies like for ex Senator, does all of the ink is made in Germany? Like i said im curious. And my admiration for your high quality pens. Take care!
@@lelandfitz1762 Oh, so it's like bold "HAUSER Germany" on the front and "Made in India" in a small font on the back. Though I think some components like tungsten carbide ballpoint tips and ink paste components are made in Germany, or, well, at least were made in Germany until chem and industry giants started moving their production outside EU. I've got a couple of fountain pen ink bottles by Flair-owned "Pierre Cardin Paris pens" - one is made in Germany and the other in China. PS. Both inks are high quality.

@@anarkidude9360 I don't know how far reaching the ink production is going in Germany these days. As far as I can remember some inks I got from Kaweco were all made in Austria. Lamy apparently produces everything on their own in their German factory, so I guess inks, too. The process is pretty much all automated, that's why it doesn't make a big difference if you produce it in China or elsewhere. Altough energy prices are soaring right now and industries are leaving the country at rapid speed. Like with German nibs, it's pretty much a question of how you programme the machine that is welding the metal. Unless the energy to do that becomes too high, I think they won't have to move production. But that's just my guess here...
