@@greedpower565 I mean, there clearly is a soul to the game. If there wasn’t a soul, the Pokemon designs, location designs, character designs, etc. would not have all these little details everywhere. The devs clearly cared a lot about making a good game; the problem is that a team of only like 50 people were tasked with making an OPEN-WORLD GAME in 3 YEARS, which is fucking hilarious and also infuriating. I think that for an open world Pokemon game they need at least 6 years.
The same as The Legend of Zelda but because of merchandising this won’t happen.
They could have taken the 3d engine from Sword and Shield or Legend Arecus and reuse them.
That way they could save money on developing an engine and improve that existing one.

Even more evidence with Larry. He's forced to work as both a Gym Leader and Elite 4 member. Just like how the Game Freak staff were forced to work on both games simultaneously.
If you really want to stretch things, you could say Geeta (His Boss)'s battle being underwhelming and nonsensical (Why wouldn't you lead Glimmora?) Is an analogy for The Pokemon Company and their release schedule being the cause for underwhelming games.
Personally, I do think TPC is the root of the problem and have noticed the decline in quality since the transition to 3D. However, I do think it's important to note that Game Freak chooses to keep their studio small and instead of hiring more developers, chose to outsource BDSP to ILCA to deal with crunch. I still think TPC is the problem, but if so, Game Freak should find a way to work within those parameters to prevent games like this from happening.
Anyways, great video. Glad that people are finally recognizing TPC as the real problem here.

Another point about the annual releases before the 3D-era: most games were released annually, but there was ALWAYS a third game that would just take the game that was done before (GS, RS, DP) and expand on it (Crystal, Emerald, Platinum). When we actually had a new story (BW2), the games were two years apart, because they were working on everything that needed to be new on top of copying and pasting everything BW had already done before. Nowadays, every new release is a brand new release (except for USUM), of course it's gonna be bad! It's not enough time!

Exactly and not only that but the logistics in workload to make a 2D pixel art game versus a fully rendered 3D game just made it virtually impossible for them to keep up with the workload they gave themselves. The sad part is is X and Y sorely needed a Pokemon Z in sword and shield definitely needed a third better game ( I don't know what they'd call it maybe Pokemon Lance or armor or crown, or scepter). I remember extreme levels of online hype came out with Pokemon X and Y with how heavily it was marketed and while the games were genuinely fun at the time I can't help remembering I was really thinking they need a Pokemon Z and was genuinely shocked that they skipped a traditional third game or even a sequel to go right to gen 7.

I never looked at how long it took for the Nexomon games to be made, but I have read that Cuphead uses hand-painted animation to make the character model sprites and effects that would have taken around a year to make. Not to mention when you look at any fan made Pokémon games or ROM hacks that make entirely new pokemon new types new maps and new assets those take a long time especially because they're usually only done with an even smaller team. I think that even the new pokemon designs are suffering from this rushed schedule. There is no time to “metabolize” new characters and designs, they have no time to become iconic and be burned into people mind, resulting in pokemon often seen as gimmicky and forgettable. This cause people seeking easy nostalgic fan service (Kanto original 151, Johto..) or a new whole pokedex to blindly consume and toss away, in a very unhealthy loop of mediocrity.
Also I note a worrisome trend of furry-humanoid evolutions and recycled design, but I understand this is controversial and a different story.

I know everyone trying to defend game freak and the pokemon company say " ooooooh but they can't delay the games because, merchandise, card game, and the anime!!!".......yah......soooo
1 merchandise.: they currently have a thousand DIFFERENT pokemon to make merchandise of and 75% of new merchandise ANYWAY will always be Pikachu, Eevee, and the starters plus a few fan faves which means no new game needed every year.
    2. The card game: they can do what they did for pokemon's 25 anniversary and just re print an older set as a special edition or again...make a set off of the LITERAL THOUSAND unique creatures they have already....it can wait a year.
3 the Anime: they can do what literally every other anime based on another property mostly mangas do when the writers haven't gotten to the new story yet make a filler Arc like the orange Islands even use it to tease a few new finished gen 10 mons like they normally do so again dosn't need a yearly game release.
4 pokemon fans are RABBID and if the state of modern pokemon games shows will buy ANYTHING with the pokemon logo and will be slightly disappointed BUT like most Nintendo fans will be willing to wait a year if the pokemon company said "we are delaying the new generation to make sure the game is done right " and most fans would praise them for it!
5 they can get other companies to make spin offs like how they recently remake pokemon mystery dungeon and pokemon snap. Hell I would love a new pokemon stadium to battle my friends with a team of pokemon from any save data on my switch or play dumb mini games with them! They can also bring back the pokemon ranger series! Again using other companies while game freak takes their time.
In summary there are plenty of solutions for the issue of rush corner cutting yearly releases and they just won't do it because that would take time and money aperently the BIGEST GROSSING MEDIA FRANCHISE won't spend (not can't, WON'T) and from a business point of view I see why they're doing this because it gets them huge profits with less effort and cost and that's what investors want to see sadly not quality products.

From my personal experience, being a Pokémon fan ontop of a fan of literally any other Nintendo series just makes talking about Pokémon just a constant expression of depression. You know how good they *could* get because whatever other Nintendo (or, as long as they're on Nintendo's consoles, even *any* thirdparty) franchise already show how capable their consoles can get, so even if you HADN'T grown in the times where they made passion projects to enhance their older games (through remakes like FRLG/HGSS or third versions or even full-on sequels once), you can tell they're not doing as much as they can and are instead releasing as many games as possible, even if it means the end project has to cut a TON of corners ever since XY.
And every party involved is somehow all in the wrong; you have Game Freak not hiring more people for any goddamn reason (and even when they do they can't teach them properly because they DON'T KEEP PAST DATA), you have TPC which profits off this normally now-unsustainable business model because it's sustainable literally only out of Pokémon's brand name, you have Nintendo not giving their usual quality oversight because it's not developed by them (even though as publishers their name is literally all over it; seriously this is a *godawful* look for Nintendo to bear), and even the fandom to some extent were once the ones to over-eagerly demand that SM be released faster (which in turn led to the lategame of those games being rushed as hell) and to this day a bunch of them still standing by said entries (not that I blame them since it's them being attached to the IP; but that's every reason to want the best for it imo, and not want its name dragged through the mud by a technical disaster that rivals Sonic 06).

As much as I loved SV, it really feels rushed in a lot of ways, even beyond performance and visuals. As one example, Starfall Street feels very half-baked, as the areas are large with scaffolding and such, yet the Star Barrages/auto-battle portions are easy and braindead the whole game as you just fire your team out like attack dogs to reach a random-a** number that never increases. If they had implemented overworld attacks like in PL:A, though, they could've been pretty tough and engaging as you dodge beams and punches like a ninja, and it feels like they were supposed to be there, but they lacked the time to implement the feature!
I've heard rumors that working at Game Freak is horrible, with way too many old-timers relying on an outdated engine and their own traditions/ideas of what Pokémon ″should″ be, lots of crunch and poor communication, constant contract workers working on small parts of the game and leaving without anyone knowing how to continue with it or replicate their knowledge, and more horrible things like that, and I honestly believe it. ″Annual triple-A JRPG″ is dystopian, there's no way the studio would be a good work environment.

Sonic Team learned this the hard way since 06
Sonic Forces happened after the teams behind Unleashed, Colors, and Generations all left.........reducing their team size (currently 60+). As a result of the disappointment of that game, they took one more year to work on Sonic Frontiers, resulting in the 5 year gap between Forces and Frontiers...........with little to nothing in between (with only 1 remaster done by them)
Whiling Sonic Frontiers is not perfect and the world may be a bit empty (beside enemies and Big fishing), all those 5 years must've been worth it since it is the most fun people had with a Sonic game made by them since Generations (Mania was fanmade).
Hell it even lead to the point where Sonic fans had a war over Genshin Impact and their fans over TGA 2022 Player's Choice, only for the website to eventually crashed 2 days before the event. Granted, at the end of the day Sonic Frontiers lost to Genshin Impact but it still, Sonic Team might've finally redeemed themselves.

17:17 Yo, for once, can somebody please actually find some proof of this. “TPC dictates the deadlines” originated from nowhere, people just keep parroting it cause they want it to be true.
Guys, gamefreak have ALWAYS been bad at game development. Red/Green/Blue was a glitchy broken mess that we look fondly on its bugs/mistakes. Satoru Iwata (head of Nintendo at the time) famously stepped in to fix gen 2, removed so much bad coding that he was able to add all of Kanto in G/S. His last credited Pokémon game was B2/W2 before he passed away.
Gamefreak would never be able to catch up with evolving technologies, even with more time. With X/Y, gamefreak had to learn new software (without Nintendo holding their hand) and what they learned at that time has been their default knowledge of development that they still haven’t upgraded from. They 100 percent SHOULD expand their team and knowledge of new technologies, but they straight up don’t want to.
So basically, I think Gamefreak’s bad decisions are their own mistakes. The Sw/Sd gym outfit was a conscious decision they made and I think that should tell you enough about their decision making.

I do love these games a lot, but they clearly focus way too much on quantity over quality. I mean, I am getting way too sick of games being released annually ever since 2016 with Sun and Moon, the Ultra games being the same song and dance with not that many huge changes, the Let’s go games being Pokémon Go Cash grabs, SWSH literally being a drop from controversy and the point where I got tired of the annual releases especially with the DLC which is just a pay to play post game that lacks on so much with two parts that felt bare bone, BDSP basically being a lazy mess, and legends feeling empty and devoid of life for a game that still has a great and unique formula for Pokémon with something new but ruined for me with how empty it felt and with how sun and moon it felt with tutorials. I mean scarlet and violet are still good but the bugs and glitches are a clear example that the development team really needs a break and that more quality needs to be put in over the quantity we see from today’s Pokémon games. I mean I know this sounds unfair to compare Pokémon to Zelda or Mario. But both Mario and Zelda at least have breaks with major releases and at least keep up some releases with spin offs or rereleases of past games with actual good remakes unlike BDSP, and that both Mario and Zelda still have that love and care put into their games unlike Pokémon with too much annual releases that focus more on money unlike Mario or Zelda which at least have time and know when to have a break with spin offs or remakes. Even Metroid does not have a similar problem because unlike Pokémon we only had one recently in dread, which is an amazing 2D Metroid and to save up for Prime 4 (maybe one day) Is great to see that they put so much of an emphasis to their franchise unlike Pokémon which suffers with yearly releases that have way more glitches than COD or even Big Riggs which sounds unfair to compare to. I do love Pokémon, but I really would like a 3 or 4 year break for them at least, but seeing how Pokémon is, maybe not. And the fact that SV have a lower rating or review score than BDSP is also really sad and depressing too.

I am STILL playing tears of the kingdom to the point where it's wrecking havoc on my schedule and getting entertained by it. Meanwhile, gamefreak needs to give scarlet and violet life support in the form of raids and, for some, competitive events to keep anyone logging back into the game. Once you actually beat the game, there is NOTHING to do, except training up pokemon and the same ace academy tournament over and over again, which only gets you gold. Gamefreak cannot keep relying on the competitive drive for a "postgame." Of course, the DLC is going to come out, but based on sword and shield, we are just going to do the yarn thread of a story, catch a couple of legends and returning pokemon, and call it a day.
