Welcome from Tam Baillie - Upstart Scotland AGM 2018

This video features the welcome offered to the 2018 AGM of the Upstart Campaign, by Board Member Tam Baillie.
Prior to proudly joining the Board for the Upstart Scotland Campaign, Tam Baillie held the post of Children & Young People’s Commissioner for Scotland. He feels strongly about the need to support young people’s voices and perspectives, and that is why, when he left that role, he joined Upstart’s Board. In this Welcome to the 2018 AGM, Tam reflected on the importance of taking stock of where Upstart is as a movement and where Scotland is as a country. He begins with stories about the power of stopping and thinking and reflecting. If we don’t, we cannot meet children’s needs.
Upstart Scotland is a campaign that aims to introduce a kindergarten stage into Scottish Education, for children aged 3-7. It focuses on social and emotional development and learning through play, as often as possible outdoors and in natural surroundings. Evidence for the benefits of this approach -- for children's long-term health, well-being and educational success -- can be found on www.upstart.scot. Upstart has the support of thousands of parents and professionals from education, childcare, health and social services, the arts, children's rights, environmental sustainability and developmental psychology.
