Scotland’s children are Scotland’s future. To realise their full potential, they need the very best start to their education. The western countries with the best records in education don't start formal schooling till children are seven. Instead they have a kindergarten stage based on well-established principles of child development.
Current Scottish policy supports a developmental approach, but the structure of our schooling system makes it difficult to deliver. A statutory kindergarten stage ensures that the ethos of education for the under-sevens is different from that of formal schooling.
In today's fast-moving, high-pressure world, children need more opportunities to learn through play (especially outdoors), to develop their spoken language and social skills, and to build sound foundations for academic achievement.

Leslie Ridiculous (born in Wolverhampton) is a hopeless fantasist, who thinks Scotland is part of Scandinavia. She has wet dreams of Scotland becoming Denmark or Norway (never says anything about the taxation rates there). Ridiculous can be dismissed in two sentences. It took Denmark a thousand years to become what it is today. The idea Scotland can do it in 20 years is risible. As she (or anyone else) can't say how this miracle will occur, let me quote Christopher Hitchens "What is asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence"
Nothing wrong with having aspirations and trying to make Scotland a better place. Your "1000years" statement is bizarre, and it's hard to believe that you are a sensible person.
@@PorthLlwyd "Bizarre"? Denmark became a recognisable state sometime after the conversion to Christianity in the 11th century. Since then, it's pollical and social development has taken a very different path to the UK and/or Scotland. Ridiculous thinks that 1000 years of divergent political and social development can be bypassed by wishing hard enough. If anyone isn't sensible here, it's Ridiculous (and you)
@@FranzBieberkopf social and economic change can happen very quickly if the right policies can be put in place. To think you would need 1000years to make this change is bizarre. What Lesley is advocating is to take what provides better outcomes in other countries and see if they can be applied here. There is nothing ridiculous about that, especially if the current societal and economic models we currently have aren't working.

Well done Carol for starting a group to help parents understand more about child development and I agree that all schools should be offering a similar thing as we do know so much more now about our brains and how we learn new things.

I wish this project well, but I'm not at all sure about the evidence - see Hart and Risley, for example. Some of the evidence here is in the future...
