  • In this weeks episode from ‪@RestorationDIY‬ I make a bowl from a cut Walnut Blank 3 colour Epoxy Resin with a Segmented Black Walnut Rim, this is the first time I've used this combination of a blank cast in resin with a segmented rim and I was very happy with the end result, After this project I've decided to move away from this pedastal design Bowl so it may be the last one I do for quite a while, Take a look and follow me through each stage from start to finish, Subscribe if you havent already a thumbs up will be much appreciated and comments are always welcome.

    I too love your pedestal bowls. I watch several wood turners and no one else does them. Yours have such old world charm. Never stop making them.

    I like your pedestal bowls, not least because I haven’t seen anyone else do them; and this one is particularly nice but I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with next. It’s also nice to hear a British accent (Yorkshire?). 🌞

      Thankyou 🙂 it's not the last you've seen of them the pedestals will make an appearance every now and then, very close my accent is a cross off Lincolnshire and Oxfordshire 🙂

    I made the Gerry Bennett segmenting jig and it was well worth the time. I had perfect segments the first time and still having great results from its use

      @@RestorationDIY Sir, you could turn a log into just a slightly different looking log, and it would still be a stunning work of art. It’s a privilege for us to be able to watch you work. Make whatever you like, I will eagerly watch in awe.

    Thank you for the video. Turned out beautiful! Does the english walnut always tear out like that? And any idea why the cracks developed in the resin? Thank you.

    • @RestorationDIY
      @RestorationDIY  2 роки тому

      The walnut was very dry and quite punky its not normally like that and the resin was overheating in the final stages of curing which caused the cracks after it cooled down, the voids are created by air released from the wood being trapped in the rapidly gelling liquid, priming the walnut / timber first with a clear coat of epoxy might help to reduce the problems I had. Many thanks for your question hope it helps.🙂

    That was a very quick response! I live on the Northamptonshire/Leicestershire border but am originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne. I also like to see that you use a Pro Edge, which was recommended to me by Dan at Yandles 🌞

      The Pro Edge is a great piece of kit 👌 I'd be lost without mine 🙂

    Do you sell the file for your segment thing you use for the ring? I have watched several of your videos and can't wrap my brain around how to make something like that on my 3d printer. Or any pointers on how you designed it? Thank you for any insight!

    • @RestorationDIY
      @RestorationDIY  Рік тому

      Hi, i dont sell the file at the moment. I hope to later this year when I get my website up and running, the template is fairly easy to design on sketch up, also if you watch some of my earlier videos I didn't have a template I used mixing sticks to space the segments to make the joints. 🙂 hope that helps. And good luck with your projects 🙂
