Jimmy, this video brings a smile to my face. I have been visiting my in laws in Florida for the past 15 years and have enjoyed so many great outing backpacking in Ocala National Forest and wildlife photography missions across the state shooting snail kites, roseate spoonbills, herons and ibis, Florida Scrub Jay and the whole host of characters in that state. It is also a joy to escape the cold of a New Hampshire winter! Looks like you were in south Florida, I haven't gotten down there yet. Was it hard to navigate the mangroves? I can see that being a place you could get lost, especially if trying to get back at dark. You got some great video footage and photos. Definitely brightened my day! Thanks! Florida is underrated for wild spaces.
Thanks John! Wow, that's awesome, sounds like you've had some great adventures out there. I can't wait to make it back. The mangroves weren't difficult to navigate. A lot of the more popular areas are very well marked. I had a map and GPS with me that made things very simple. I think I only got turned around once or twice in there by some areas that weren't well documented on the map.
Nice calming video! I liked the skimmers most, i have never seen those. When going south to these hot and wet areas, it somehow feels like turning on 'easy' mode for finding animals to photographs(?). Here in the north the variety and number of animals feels incomparably smaller.
Thanks so much Ott, it was a wonderful trip! I have definitely noticed that there seems to be much more abundant wildlife in the coastal areas and overall they are much more tolerant of people than the animals I'm used to photographing. This is something I was just mentioning to someone the other day, I'm still blown away at the "ease" of just going out and finding so much amazing wildlife to photograph in such a short period of time. And to be able to do that on a daily basis was just incredible. I love where I live now, but I could definitely be happy in a location like that with so much wildlife around.
Thank you, I really appreciate that 😊 I'll just keep exploring and sharing what I find and hopefully the subscribers will come. Thanks for the holiday wishes, all the best to you and yours as well, Merry Christmas!
I am baffled too at what is happening with the algorithm at this point. I mean I guess backcountry wildlife photography is a bit more niche than the car-based wildlife photography most people engage in, but the content is universal to that genre, and Jimmy has been so consistent with many value add videos.
Cool, I loved the way you filmed the seashell being washed away! Your cast of characters reminded me of my stop on Assateague Island a few months ago (last minute decision so no video). You're very brave going out there. The snakes terrify me and my husband can't stand gators so I don't foresee any trips to Florida for us. Although there is much there wildlife and scenery wise to experience! I wonder if you explored the Everglades?
Thanks Julie! You know, I was actually quite surprised that I only saw one snake the entire trip and the Alligators were more difficult to find than I had anticipated. You should definitely visit sometime as you can definitely do so while avoiding the snakes and the gators. I've visited the Everglades before and would love to return, but I was unable to do so this time around. All the best to you and yours and have a Merry Christmas!
Great video with some super footage and images. It looks like a dream location for wildlife photographers. One of the previous comments said it was annoying that you don't tell us where you are. I fully understand why you don't, you make the effort to research where you are going and you are also very protective of both the wildlife and environment. If you constantly were to give away your locations these areas would be over run with photographers that may not have the ethics that you do. Most photographers that I know are also very protective of their special places. Thanks for sharing and I hope you and your family have a great holiday season.
Thanks so much Keith for the constant support and for understanding why I try to protect these places by not disclosing locations. Yes, I put in a lot of time and effort in my researching and exploring these locations. But most importantly I'm not going to disclose these places because I've seen too many areas absolutely destroyed by photographers literally "loving nature to death." I love sharing and experiencing nature with others and UA-cam is a place I can do that. I just wish more UA-cam creators would omit locations, but it's become so normal for them to disclose that info simply for the sake of gaining a few subscribers. Thanks again for everything, always appreciated!
A while back I asked you if you could do a video on pheasants because I can’t figure out how to photograph them, I am very happy because I did manage to get a few decent pictures. I am still gonna wait until you do a video on it however because I cannot get an actually good picture but for now decent is good enough for me. Thank you so much for already having learned me a lot about wildlife photography and photography in general
Thanks so much for sharing and congratulations on getting some Pheasant images! 👏 They're on my goal list for next spring because of your request, I'm excited to start on them and hopefully get some fun pictures!
@@JimmyBreitenstein I find that especially the male pheasants can make for beautiful pictures because of there color and the way there long tail hangs behind them. I find them fascinating and beautiful birds
Thanks for the feedback, I'll start getting better at doing that. I wasn't too concerned, but I was definitely always on the lookout for them just in case. Mostly so I could photograph them 😜🤣
Hey Jimmy. Really enjoyable video. I'm not sure if it is too much to ask to add a caption sometimes on the stills on bird photos. For those of us trying to learn to recognize new species it would be really helpful.
Very nice Jimmy, Were most of the pictures taken from your kayak? Did the movement of the kayak change the way you shoot? thanks looking forward to the next video.
Thanks so much! Yeah, pretty much all the images were taken from the kayak except those at the beach area. I've done a lot of shooting from a kayak and you get used to it pretty quickly. I recommend hand-holding on the kayak rather than using a tripod. I find it easier to track your subject as you're a bit more maneuverable.
I understand your frustration and appreciate your understanding. I know the norm on social media has turned into sharing where your pictures are taken, but that's not something that I do. I've seen a lot of locations ruined and animals injured or worse because people have shared locations. Don't get me wrong, I do share locations with others, but only those I've worked with, trust and know to be ethical photographers. Simply put, I don't believe social media is the place to share that info, so I don't share it out of respect to other photographers and most importantly the location and the wildlife that call it home. You've mentioned before that this is annoying, I acknowledge your opinion but please know that this is not info I will share on this platform.
Beautiful footage Jimmy! Love your filming man! And Florida has gotta be one of the best places for birding! Cheers
Thanks so much, greatly appreciated 🙏 Florida really is amazing for bird life and wildlife in general. It's quickly become one of my favorite places!
So many cool birds! The color of the spoon bill 5:41 🤯 so neat! What an awesome place to explore and photograph. Thank you for sharing 😊
It's a bird lovers paradise out there 🤩 That Spoonbill was sooo pretty, you really can't beat those colors! Have a happy New Year my friend.
Oh, man! The footage at the beach was spectacular. Thank you for sharing. Cheers!
Thank you! Such an amazing day I had out there 😁
Amazing abundance of species, wonderful footage, especially shorebirds and terns/skimmers ! Steer clear of them gators, Jimmy. Stay safe!
Thanks a bunch! Don't you mean steer towards the Gators!? 😆

Beautiful video Jimmy, how you don't have 250k subscribers is beyond me. Can't wait for part 2. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you and the Mrs.

Beautiful video & music! I would love if you could name the birds you see. Were you scared of crocs in the water (cuz I was for you 😬).

Thanks for the request, that's not too much to ask at all, I'll do that in future videos.
Hey Jimmy, what precautions did you take to keep your cameras dry while in the kayak?
I had a dry bag that I kept it in and I clip the bag to the kayak in case I roll.
Very nice Jimmy, Were most of the pictures taken from your kayak? Did the movement of the kayak change the way you shoot? thanks looking forward to the next video.

I live in Florida, and I still have no idea where you are. It’s very annoying not telling us where you are going more or less

Not to worry, there are really no secret birding locations in Florida. They are all very well known and documented.
@@markjensen663 It amazing how far a little leg work and research can go 😊
