I have just been quoted £900.00 for a desmo service by Leeds Ducati. If its taken Steve 12 hours it’ll probably take me a week to do the job, although this video has properly filled me with confidence and I probably could manage it if I had the patience. Despite being slow and over cautious, I am actually starting to enjoy working on the bikes.
@@laughtonexplorer Morning Steve, The Multi’s going to M-Tech this time, but thats not a reflection on the video! Did you get the message I sent to you?
@@garyherd5751 - hourly rate doesn’t seem too bad compared to Car Dealers. To be fair, with all things considered, it probably took me 12 hours. I got my belts from France as there was a special offer. Still think its a big sum that though… yikes 😱
@@laughtonexplorer You’re welcome! I have had my MTS1200 from new in 2010 and still love it 55k miles later. I dont tour on it, its a sport ride/ big supermoto to me. Power commander, half system, geared down 1 tooth at the front and the wheels from an 1198. Its been measured at 147hp at the wheel and I cant remember exactly how much torque, but it was circa 90+ Lb ft. Its really interesting to see all this work. Thank you very much for all your hard graft in putting out these videos.
@@Ukmongoose3 - really flattered by your words, thank you. It’s humbling to know there are people willing to encourage through words rather than the usual ‘criticisms’ and negativity so thanks. If you’re ever up Yorkshire way give us a shout, we can share a ride out somewhere if you’re up for it?
Hi Steve, great video gave me confidence to do same on my 2010 1200s. Do you have experience with check valve clearances ? Thinking about giving this a go but would like to see done by likes of yourself!!
does it matter what the crank position is before you start on the belts. I noticed people set it to h cylinder tdc, but this method it doesn't really seem to matter . am I wrong?
@@robkirtley2049 correct. However if either of the cylinders is under pressure or the cam is under sprung pressure - especially if any of the valves are open, the piston would come into contact with the valve head, potentially damaging the valve. I was fortunate there was no movement…
DT playing in the background is my inspiration to take this on myself.

Go for it mate, slow and steady wins the race. 👍🏼

took mine in, well stung as i do not have a garage or shed to do it in so limited to the small jobs but they did an excellent job
Just out of interest - how much?
@@laughtonexplorer £1462
@@garyherd5751 WOWOWOUCH - that’s about double what I was expecting! That is truly extortionate!!

Great job :) can you write what torque to tighten the spark plugs?
This is fantastic. Thank you very much for posting. Subbed!
Thanks for the sub!

@@laughtonexplorer Sure, I’m near Driffield, if that’s nearby to you?
@@Ukmongoose3 I’m in Sheffield but drift over that way occasionally.
Just to note .....the vertical cylinder belt tension should be checked/adjusted when it is at tdc compression .....IE both valves closed.

I decided not to do the valve clearances on this occasion. Sorry
Did you only change 2 of the spark plugs?
The 2010 model only has two.
Hey Steve, did you receive the FB message I sent to you via my other half’s account?
Hiya - I never use FB so good job you told me 🤣 is your other half called Susan and into fishing - number ends in 759?
thanks for sharing. Can you do the same on an DVT engine?
I'm not sure. I would have thought most of the process is applicable.

It does matter yes…
Why though if you mark it up as it is and nothing moves, then with the new belt surely it would just be timed exactly the same

hai,can y share that Hetz App.

Now I understood why the Ducati service is so expensive…
To be fair, as far as dealer prices go - they’re not that bad. For BMW you can add £100/hr! 😱
Great video , but I couldn't watch . Wow ! Nothing is that nice to ride .
Why not?
