Great video. I bought my 2013 multistrada 5 years ago, it is my favourite bike of all time. I bought a 1260 multistrada a year ago, very nice bike, but my 1200 is different, it's my bike. I prefer the 1200 pretty much because of the engine. The 1260 engine is fantastic, but the overall character of the 1200 works for me. Much more torque, and the way the engine responds is just the way I want it to. By the way I bought the 1260 thinking that my 1200 was getting old, perhaps I should just have a newer bike as an option. Neat idea, but in the end I'm staying with the 1200. A couple of things. My bike has been great, very few problems. I am also due for the desmo service, I will just bite the bullet - I can't change to another bike. I'll just accept the cost. (60,000 km now) About low rpm engine performance. I bought a tuneboy ECU programmer 4 years ago, and spend all 4 years developing my own engine map. The bike is now simply amazing. It has improved steadily over especially the last 18 months as I really got to understand the engine map, but the last 6 months I have made a real breakthrough. It is now better than anything I could have imagined 4 years ago. Every time I ride the bike it is such an amazing thrill, I often wonder if Ducati know what a miracle the engine is - their default engine map certainly doesn't exhibit any of what the engine is capable of. A comment. You say your multistrada rides like when it was new. I had to smile. Mine was nice when I bought it, I liked it, but if I were to give that bike perhaps 6/10, I would give it 7.5/10 now with the current engine map. I absolutely love my 1200. It's great to see someone else with a similar viewpoint on the bike. A very last thought. This is probably more than you would want to attempt, but just in case - if you want to try my engine map I would be happy to provide it to you, no charge.
Thank you so much for your comment. It greatly improves the video, when people seriously interested in this bike check the comments for extra information (I do that), your comment will be a great source of information. I agree with you, the character of the motor is what counts. And this motorcycle has plenty. It sounds great. It is smooth. But it also feels raw! Like in it is aggressive, this motorcycle pushes me to ride faster. It is engaging! About the low RPM thing, actually my bike does it very well, from the start, it was always perfect. Maybe I got lucky? But thank you so much for your offer. My only criticism is for the motorcycle reviewers, the ones who want to evaluate a motorcycle by how well it rides at 25-30mph in 6th gear. I just don't get it why is that so important... LOL. On mine, I drop it down to third gear when getting into traffic or going through villages, and it is smooth on those speeds! And then I can enjoy accelerating back to higher speeds, going through the gears. The fun factor is THERE. LOL. Thanks again!!!
Owning the 2011 S version myself, I fully underwrite the conclusions in the video. It’s a fun bike to go anywhere. After all these years, it can still compete with newer kids on the block. Loads of character, brutal engine and 3 motorcycles in 1; what’s not to like? Well yeah, the electronic gremlins and expensive maintenance services. For me it’s all worth it though!
@@maikoui I'm biased toward the Pikes Peak versions. But I think the best bike should be the one that best suits the kind of riding you are planning for it.

Thank for your comment. In essence the 2014 gran touring and my 2013 Pikes Peak are the same motorcycle. Great motorcycles, especially if there is a dealer nearby. 🙂
I had a 2013 1200S that I love, put 10k miles on it the 1st year I owned it, sold it to a buddy and regretted it. Just now I found a 2016 1200S DVT I'm gonna play with.
Brilliant video, as a perspective multistrada owner in the future im doing my research on the bike and a long term review from a 10year owner doesnt get much better. I face many of the same problems as you living a distance from main dealers that would mean at a minimum a day off of work purely to take it for a service. I service my own bikes and not scared of bigger jobs so been researching the desmo service also. From an outsider looking in, your bike looks incredibly well looked after it still looks new, if you're selling it purely because of the desmo service, I wouldn't, service and keep it. You've had it for so long that you're not gaining anything by selling it now, and you'll wish you didnt in years to come
@@ArranD1 Yes, it still looks (and rides) like new. More people, on the comments session, have mentioned the desmo service is not that difficult. And thank you for your comment!
Great vid, enjoyed listening to you experience. I have a MTS 1260 S, love it now has 40k on the clock and has had 2 Desmo services. Other maintenance parts I’ve had a fuel sensor and a Lamba sensor fail. Still rides like new and looks great. But is getting old will probably change next year to a MTS v4s
I have a 2014 GT model and it does everything my RT did, except for cruise control. It even carries the full camping load better than the RT did since the side cases are further forward and the trunk is further forward. Much more fun in the twisty mountains than the 1200RT.
Brilliant video and very interesting. I have the exact same bike but got it in 2014. I decided to get the full bore service at 23,000 km rather than change the bike just because I still love the raw beauty of it. Hope you do the same !! The new version is truly amazing but I may wait some time before trying it. I would not want to regret trading in the 2014 pikes peak, love the exhaust, the tyre size etc etc. Best of luck for the future !
I have a 22' V4S that I absolutely love, with 11K miles, and I've been wondering how long and how far it will go. I hope I have a similar experience. And agreed, I wouldn't have bought a Ducati if I didn't have a dealership close by. Cheers!
Good video. I have 2010 1200s multistrada. Just 1200 pounds to have the desmo service. As you say its difficult to justify the expenditure. But i still enjoy the bike. I have test rode the ktm 1290 sas which i think will be my next bike. Although i am keeping the Ducati for the future. Let us know what decide. The v4 pikes peak is a special bike.

Great video, I concider to sell my Hypermotard 1100s and go for a Multistrada 1200 Pikes peak as I can ride longer distances at more comfort. Good informative video! Thanks
The lack of access to manuals, codes and resetting the service light are big deterrents for me. Well, that and having owned an old Ducati in the past! I'm willing to take another chance, and I'm handy, but Ducati really doesn't want owners to touch those bikes and it's hard for me to accept. It better not break down ever, but how likely is that. BTW, Desmo valve service isn't that much more difficult than on conventional motors or Japanese bikes.

Great video, precise ranting too. I owned a 2013 Multistrada base model, she has clocked 125k km and still going strong. By the way, nice handlebar bag you have, mind sharing where you bought it? Thinking of getting Desert X, the looks grows in me....
Thank you so much! About the handlebar bag, it is a Case Logic bag for camcorders. I'm not sure they are still sold. Last time I searched the internet I could not find them. They are perfect for a small camera or cell phone or other small items.
I was looking for a 1260 pikes peak model but even on the 2nd hand market they ask around 18 to 20.000,- euro's for one with not too much milage. For that money I bought a 2023 model KTM Adventure S, might not be as pretty but has more tech and better (light) offroad capabilities. Maybe I will upgrade to the V4 model when the prices come down a little.
It's incredible how much they are asking for a used 1260 Pikes Peak. I think you made the right choice going with the KTM, especially if you want to ride off road.
The forest with the large trees, Sequoya trees, is in northern California, close to the coast. Most of the other locations are in Oregon, including the coast shots. Yes, I'm lucky. But I also chose to live in Oregon. :-)
I need your help! I have a rsv4 rf track bike. And im looking for a multistrada. I came down to 4 options. 1) 1200s 2012 model with 33.000km for 10k€, 2) 1200s pikes peak 2016 for 17k€ with 20.000km, 3) 1260s 2020 for 14k€ with 20.000km and 4) v4 rally version 2000km for 20k€
That's a hard decision. If you like HP, I would recommend the V4 rally. Otherwise, I would go with the 2020 1260. But if I wanted to get the original, raw feel, the 2012 would do it. But ultimately, all four are great options. But prices seem to be too high for all. There must be some room for negotiation there.
So, now it's 10 months later ... do you still have it? Are you increasingly tempted to "upgrade" to a V4 PP? I'm riding a 2017 1200S and am thinking that I'll still keep on riding it for another year or two. I'm very tempted by a new PP but it's £30,000 ... that's a big chunk of money.
I still have it. And I'm now less tempted to get a V4. I like more the two cylinders today... especially as, like you, I contemplate the price of entry for a V4.
@idratherberiding3456 have to say, the twin motor, 17 inch wheels and single sided swing arm are key attractions for me, so the PP is the only V4 I could really consider.
