I'm a teen that has got much to stress about in academics and other things, I consider myself a loner since I don't have friends that you could count a finger on, and the one's that counts doesn't really feel like "friendship". after schoolworks and things, I chose to watch camping videos, I've done this since last year and I've stumbled across your channel. your solo camping videos and other contents really puts me at ease. I couldn't really relate since I can't do what you do for now and just hoping. but I find myself being in the same journey you go, especially with the povs and when you're having a conversation with us. You may not no this but your content helped me greatly. Thank you for that and keep going on the journey as your viewers and I will be with you in the other end. Love from the Philippines 🇵🇭
Get the awning, brother, batwing is best. Save up for it, even, you and the Fam won't regret that purchase. Your tent was missing the rear guy line to attach point to pull that back area up/back, requiring more cordage and possibly pegs.
Great channel Rod. Tie more guy lines to the reinforced loops, especially around the back, in this set-up. You’ll be a lot happier with the extra useable space. Telescopic hiking poles will work a treat and be kinder on the tarp. Plus being adjustable, they’ll be great on any shaped ground and most tarp set-ups. Stay safe mate
It helps to put the pole slightly further back to lift the back end off the ground a bit more and open up more room. You can also just hook the side guy lines on to the pegs you're already using at the back of the tent. It's a great little setup
Could you put a guide rope on the back to hold it out from the wind? Thank you for these video's, we live in the UK, been watching you for ages ( we remember the hoochie video) and this gives us a bit of Australia because I know we will never get to visit, even though my cousin has lived in Adelaide about 25 years. Love your attitude and how good you are with the camera. Much appreciated. Oh I forgot to tell you, the rain you were having, welcome to Britain, it is like that over here a lot.
The fact you can’t afford “ the big cool shit” is the reason I still watch your channel bro! You don’t need the fanciest shit to get out there! You make it work and I love it!!! Let us know if you want to do another wathumba/Rooney’s trip as I would love to see you up there again!
To use two less pegs, try to tie the “door lateral flaps” without two new pegs, but with the pegs already in the sand, the ones immediately behind the door pegs. Maybe it works haha Can’t wait to see your vids from SA! Cheers mate
I’ve built a few tarp setups on the beach. I use pieces of found sticks about a foot long buried in the sand turned side ways about a foot deep. Just have your string or rope tied to the stick. Holds super well.
You'll enjoy the South African trip. Great fishing. As a South African living on the Gold Coast It's really interesting to recognise the spots you boat and fish here. It was also fascinating when you sailed Misty as I know the boat as I keep my boat at the same marina. The weather certainly has been poor here over the last few weeks but improved yesterday.
One thing you can do with the back that's cupping the wind is getting a peice of cord tie it to one of the tieouts in the back wrap it around a long stick then to a peg in the sand and prop the stick in the sand at an angle against the wind and tighten the rope and it should hold itself and give alot of extra room in the back. Looking forward to the next vids
I almost wonder if you could get some bug netting and put it under the pole when you set up the tent, and then have a couple points to hook it around the bottom of the tarp and perhaps some material at the bottom to pack sand around it inside to keep it down and protected from the wind? You could maybe put a zipper around the front for the door. No idea if this would work, just a thought after thinking of standard bug nets hanging from the ceiling in a room. Love your content Rod!
The other option would be running paracord from the centrepoint of the roof on the outside up to a branch above you, that way you dont need the stick in middle of the tent. Awesome vid as always mate
Could you start pinning a tag of your own comment at the top of the comments from know on, that would be great. Land Rovers Range Rovers are over estimated in the UK I admit, but every one els in the world vastly underestimate it. Great rig brother. All said a superior suv, luxury, maintenance a pain not as bad as people say, and it’s a tank man, powerful, heavy, safe, with one of the all time best 4x4/off road production SUV ever. Plus if you bought a Toyota or something you would have been one of the sheep, instead you have the cool factor with the Rover that other white bread SUV cannot match.
She’s a beauty Rok! I appreciate your justifications for why you got a new truck but in the end its there to benefit you man! Long as your happy it makes us happy :) Anyway love the content as always and stay healthy!
Like your do it yourself attitude, I do the same thing. I think your tarp setup will work great for you. Look into some of the bug net setups for tipi tents. They can be suspended from the center pole and give you half or full coverage. Might get some ideas to sew up your own to fit inside your specific tarp configuration. Good luck.
For the back of the tent push a stick into the sand behind to use as a teacher point and run a line from one of the rear hoops to the stick. It’ll really help it shed the wind if it picks up.
Cheers for the shoutout, Rod 😄 Haha you have no idea how many times I’ve snapped that support stick too short 😂 You did a great job with it though. Once you’ve done it once or twice it’s a piece of cake and perfect for sand. I take 8 of those same pegs. Slept in that setup last night in the rain. Really good shelter. Great video dude! Also, love the new car 💯
Oh and I also run another line from one of points down the back over a forked stick and peg it down. Opens up the tent a lot and takes 2 seconds. Definitely worth it.
Look forward to seeing how the tarp tent works out in practice. Gut feel tells me that dome tent (with silicone spray for the zips) PLUS tarp for vestibule/utility area would be best. Best of all worlds.
Landi 3 Owner over here! The best car ever! No other car in its price class compares to this. If you want a dash-cover for the cracks I have great custom made ones. Sydney based📍
Alright Rod, I meant to say on that recent vid when the zips on your newer tent failed that you can get replacements. I've had the same issue on bags, tents etc, but you can get these nifty zip pullers that are sort of hinged and clamp into the zipper. After you've snapped off the old seized pullers the new ones are really easy to fit. Seemed a shame otherwise as it doesn't seem long ago when you debuted that newer tent on that island trip. I reckon there's some life in that green tent yet. All the best mate!
Cheers mate, yea I agree about he highly underrated. Hopefully this one has been taken care of as well as it appears so far and we are on top of a few of the bigger things that come up🤞
The Mocambique trip sounds awesome, Im in South Africa and Im sure the areas you will be fishing will be very similar conditions to the Fraser competitions you have done in the past. Just dont go dislocating your shoulder, its no the type of place you want that to happen.
How goods Fingal. Hard to beat a tarp setup, so versatile and a lot less gear, little bit fiddly until you get the hang of the different shelter styles.
That looks like a great setup rod if u had all the loops peged out then maby some sand around the bottom and if you had the back loop roped out to keep the back tight you would have more room yet. Corporals corner has made that set up many times and I bet you could fit some kind of bug net over the door your crafty I'm sure you could figure something out. What a beauty day to that's a nice beach your on
What a beautiful rig mate!!! Flash truck nice work mate! Was wondering were you got to 😂 always nice to here the updates👌 Hope the family is well. Talk soon when u post another live stream🤙
Love the Disco, hope he gives you plenty of great miles touring, SA trip sounds amazing and can't wait to see that. The tarp also looks very practical, you should put another guide rope on the back section to pull it out when facing the wind. Great job!
Looks like a good set up. Maybe some tips for future long term use. Maybe a retractable Manfrotto monopod so that you don't have to look for a stick everytime. Then a tennis ball with a hole in it to fit on top of the monopod to protect your tarp. Third, a guy line pulling towards the wind to increase the space inside. You can also adjust it to regulate airflow through the tent. You definitely need some bug protection for Mozambique, malaria country that is. The North Coast of KZN, South Africa is very similar to what you have. From Cape Town
Mate, camped all my life on Queensland beaches and always had the tent opening facing into the wind, even in winter as tents just get to hot during the day, just a thought.
Also I love the disco's too, when you factor the immense market premium in prado/cruisers for such a basic/less premium on-road/daily driving experience I'd roll the dice on one too given I too am not about trashing my daily driver with 35inch tyres at glasshouse, and treating it like a mudbuggy haha. You've got a pretty big buffer for maintenance issues to an equivelently spec'd prado/cruiser so fingers crossed - I'm also my own mechanic though, if I wasn't I'd definitley want a trustworthy local Landy specialist that treats your vehicles like his families cars. Another good thing about Landrovers though is I've noticed their are die hard Landrover specilists like that which equally love the brand and keeping them going so often decent odds of finding a good business like that compared to other brand specialists :) Enjoy it man, definitely a much more pleasent ride than a flogged solidaxle 80 series on the highway :P
Hello, can I suggest using some Walmart type of bags for guy out and for your corners fill bags with sand and burry them, some duct tape on the handles so won't easily tear out.will stand up to a fair bit of wind. I enjoy watching you videos keep them coming!!
Best vids ever love the new car n your grind nothin stops you no matter the situation a man knows how to conquer all road blocks n love the mustache 🤙🏼👌🏻
Mate it’s true once you go disco nothing else quite cuts it i went from 1 disco 3 to 2 disco 4s and still couldn’t sell the 3 they all have a purpose and never fail me good choice bro 👍🏻
Love your channel...thank you for not being the obnoxious UA-camr with over exaggerated reactions!!!!
Yeeeeooowwwww
I actually prefer this guy over 99.99% of North American channels...
@@BraydensOutdoorsobviously. That's what he was saying
😅😅
Obnoxious is far from Rod's repertoire!
It gets better, most people go through that difficult period.. all will turn out ok.
Always a great day when Rod uploads! Your genuine and positive attitude always puts me in a good mood 🤙
Get the awning, brother, batwing is best. Save up for it, even, you and the Fam won't regret that purchase. Your tent was missing the rear guy line to attach point to pull that back area up/back, requiring more cordage and possibly pegs.

Great advice!
It helps to put the pole slightly further back to lift the back end off the ground a bit more and open up more room. You can also just hook the side guy lines on to the pegs you're already using at the back of the tent. It's a great little setup
A small piece of shock cord to the next eyelet back should work as well

Oh I forgot to tell you, the rain you were having, welcome to Britain, it is like that over here a lot.
Tie another guy line to the side the wind is push in and stake it out. Then you can secure that extra space regardless of the conditions.
RoKKIT KIT & Andy’s fishing, the two most entertaining and down to earth UA-camrs!!!!
The fact you can’t afford “ the big cool shit” is the reason I still watch your channel bro! You don’t need the fanciest shit to get out there! You make it work and I love it!!! Let us know if you want to do another wathumba/Rooney’s trip as I would love to see you up there again!

Great to hear you're coming to SA, Rokkit. Stoked, hope you have a blast!
I’ve built a few tarp setups on the beach. I use pieces of found sticks about a foot long buried in the sand turned side ways about a foot deep. Just have your string or rope tied to the stick. Holds super well.
Great tip with the sticks buried sideways!
Stoked! Greetings from South Africa
Loving the new truck!!! Make a lot of new great memories...and please...take us along XOXOX
That car is a finisher car! A transporter of gods!

Wow, that Mozambique trip could be EPIC!

Man I love the rain sounds in the beginning
plenty of rain here recently😅
Love your honesty on the discovery, hopefully it’s a good one
My favorite UA-cam channel, thanks for keeping it real and being you Rod!
Love the Mike and Sully drop in.
Stubby cooler works great as a sock on your pole to protect the tarp.
I almost wonder if you could get some bug netting and put it under the pole when you set up the tent, and then have a couple points to hook it around the bottom of the tarp and perhaps some material at the bottom to pack sand around it inside to keep it down and protected from the wind? Thanks for letting us hangout with you Rod!!!!
I use a collapsible tent pole with a squash ball on the top. The ball stops holes forming and also grips on the tarp, packs easily and is light weight
The other option would be running paracord from the centrepoint of the roof on the outside up to a branch above you, that way you dont need the stick in middle of the tent. Awesome vid as always mate
Congratulations on your new truck!!!!
New vid up from Rokkit, awesome start to the weekend! 💯🔥👍🏼
I love this channel because your down to earth and diy stuff not just pay big money and get someone else to do it
Could you start pinning a tag of your own comment at the top of the comments from know on, that would be great.

Sweet wheels bother!
Always enjoy the channel and trips to the remote islands - great to see an abundance of exotic fish. Keep up the good work.
I do love your videos. Very relaxing to watch.
For the back of the tent push a stick into the sand behind to use as a teacher point and run a line from one of the rear hoops to the stick. It’ll really help it shed the wind if it picks up.
Hello from Toronto Canada. I love your videos. You have a great lifestyle. Talented fisherman. Cheers mate 🍻
Definitely carry a couple of soda pop bottle caps, and stuff them in that peg bag, to protect the tarp when making DIY tarp poles in the field.
Cheers for the shoutout, Rod 😄
Haha you have no idea how many times I’ve snapped that support stick too short 😂 You did a great job with it though. Once you’ve done it once or twice it’s a piece of cake and perfect for sand. I take 8 of those same pegs. Slept in that setup last night in the rain. Really good shelter.

I hope that the S. Africa trip comes through for you- Good Luck.
Nice wheels! Congrats mate.... A great choice for your future adventures✌️🍻
Sweet new ride! Congrats on the upgrade. Looking forward to the next camping video!
Good to see you back brother hope the family are doing well love the new wheels love how you using wife’s car for parts🤣🤣❤️
Some excellent upgrades, my friend! I am very excited about your upcoming adventure!
Gee, come along way since our pup tents of the 70s 😊😊
Look forward to seeing how the tarp tent works out in practice. Gut feel tells me that dome tent (with silicone spray for the zips) PLUS tarp for vestibule/utility area would be best. Best of all worlds.
Thank you for the Subliminal Wazowski, was not what I was expecting when I saw something flash up :)
Landi 3 Owner over here! The best car ever! No other car in its price class compares to this. If you want a dash-cover for the cracks I have great custom made ones. Sydney based📍
Tennis ball with a slit cut in it for your pole
You can buy a cheap PVC pipe cover to protect the sharp end of the tent pole from tearing the tent canvas.
Alright Rod, I meant to say on that recent vid when the zips on your newer tent failed that you can get replacements. Living the life. Love ya work mate.
Conspicuous dearth of boat content and spear fishing. Great car though. and nice tent. Love always, from the Michigan.
Half tennis ball ontop of the pole protects tarp and allows for movement
❤ landrover discoveries just great vehicles all round so awesome to drive to 😊
Sick disco mate. Highly under rated. Sing out of your ever stuck with it and I can point you in all the right directions.
Cheers mate, yea I agree about he highly underrated. Hopefully this one has been taken care of as well as it appears so far and we are on top of a few of the bigger things that come up🤞
This new truck is perfect for you. Congratulations Rod!!!
Tarp camping is the best. I only bring a tent when the kids come along 🎉
I was super excited to wake up and see a new upload by one of my favorite UA-camrs!!
Glad you acknowledged that it was a Land Rover🤣 when I seen it I was like "😅"
The Mocambique trip sounds awesome, Im in South Africa and Im sure the areas you will be fishing will be very similar conditions to the Fraser competitions you have done in the past. Just dont go dislocating your shoulder, its no the type of place you want that to happen.
You should velcro a mozzie net onto the reinforcement for the extra tie down points.
Looks like a nice setup for some island camps! Best of luck on the Africa adventure, should be epic!!
Great video mate, you can use a strap or guide line at the back to pull the tent out
How goods Fingal.
Hard to beat a tarp setup, so versatile and a lot less gear, little bit fiddly until you get the hang of the different shelter styles.
Have made hundreds of hooches in my life and I enjoyed your video! As always great video Rod!
The 360 cam sleeve would fit perfectly around the tentpole, but you’d have to sacrifice that while you’re out.
What a beauty day to that's a nice beach your on
A camera tripod actually works great for that tarp set up
@Rod, That tent setup… with three more guy lines on the back would help in the wind.
Nice! Congrats Rod!
What a beautiful rig mate!!! Flash truck nice work mate! Was wondering were you got to 😂 always nice to here the updates👌 Hope the family is well. Talk soon when u post another live stream🤙
Rod it's not going to stop..... You going to get more and more complex.... Just stick to a dome tent.... No complications
Awesomeness dude! Congrats on the new cabbie! You deserve it and will use it to the max🤟🏻
I’m South African (living in Denmark now) so happy to hear that you’ll be visiting there
34 minutes of work day left, 34 minutes of Rokkit Kit..
I am a big fan of simplicity for reliability vs fancy.
If you put one of those ropes out the back it would help fight the wind and give you more space!
You got me looking now at the discovery for the wife.. she currently has a vw Tiguan. Land Rover needs to contract with you for this ad 😂
Love the Disco, hope he gives you plenty of great miles touring, SA trip sounds amazing and can't wait to see that. The tarp also looks very practical, you should put another guide rope on the back section to pull it out when facing the wind. Great job!
Nice Discovery Rod! ...and that's an awesome Tarp setup. I'm looking into getting one for beach visits in the future! All the best!
Congratulations on your new vehicle!
Land Rovers are semi-rare here in the US, but I've never heard anyone speak ill of them. I'm personally quite happy with my Subaru though.
Can't wait to watch later. Hope you are well, m8! Always stoked to see one of your videos! From WA state!
Wishing you many safe km's in the new 4x4 Rod.

Very prescient content for me. Just leaving for a motorcycle camping trip to Arizona with that tarp for shelter. Thanks!!
Heading home to watch on the tele. I can't wait!

Awesome thanks for showing us the different types of configuration for the shelter..
Hey Rod, an old thong that's washed up would be a good recycle for the top of the pole whilst in the islands mate
You could put the rear guy ropes on the back pegs
Great video once again, looking forward to the next!
