A long-established eel restaurant established 60 years ago, located in the bustling Kabukicho district, is a famous eel restaurant that procures fresh eel carefully selected from the season's seasonal production areas and serves grilled skewers, Yanagawa, Tataki, Saikyo-yaki, and Unaju, a dish that can be enjoyed from the head to the bones.
The craftsmanship that has wowed the palates of the curmudgeons who inhabit Kabukicho is nothing if not refined.
Although it is a long-established restaurant, it is not overpriced, and the spirit of offering skewered eels as a casual snack with drinks and the comfortable atmosphere with just the right amount of liveliness are probably the reasons why it has been a favorite in Shinjuku for so long.
We wanted to taste a variety of food, so we had a set of nine skewers and a plate of pickled vegetables as an appetizer and sat down on the second floor to drink while watching the hustle and bustle of Kabukicho.
We also picked up some grilled shiitake mushrooms, and when they were ready, we ordered unaju.
The unaju at Unatetsu is tender, the aroma of the charcoal fire, and the taste of the sauce all go well with sake.
The grilled skewers have already made me feel good, but the unaju makes me want to drink another glass of sake.
