I'm definitely going to try adding the 10% reducer to my base next time I paint. I also learned to give the clear more flash time when I'm trying to bury imperfections in the clear. It makes perfect sense. I love your videos, they have made me a much better painter. Thank you for making these videos, they have been invaluable to me!

The trick I use is once I get the plastic on the car and pull it tight I use a long piece of angle iron between the front and rear wheel on each side to hold the plastic down to the floor. Works great. Wrap it up in the lose plastic and push it under the car as far as you can.

Amazing job. Honestly, it’s more difficult to copy the factory orange peel than it’s is to do a mirror finish.
When you’re comparing door panels freshly painted and original the orange peel was identical. The lights definitely helped in seeing that

The key is to just scuff the panel with a scuff pad so the texture remains and you just clear over it.

I also learned that add an extra 10% reducer for nice flat base. I did that today on your advice on a deck lid I was painting and yes looks super clean. Also on previous vids use extra slow reducer. Paint is a little thinner so need so compensate spray speed. It’s obviously that the paint is coming out faster so speed it up cowboy !!! I super appreciate your channel and your teaching style. It’s like I’m listening to my old PE Teacher !!!

Tell Juan a quick tip is to lay the plastic across the box and cut it that way, using the box as support. It cuts faster and straighter. I've also went through some boxes of 3M over the last few months that I noticed were loaded in the box backwards. I thought I was imagining things at first. It's gotten to the point where I check every time now..
Here recently in SC, it's been so hot, the boss and I have been double-teaming overall jobs just to try and keep it wet and avoid dry streaks. The booth is inside a larger shop and pulls air from inside, which is just trapped heat near the roof.
I say it's pulling the heat up from Hell is what it feels like when you fire up the fan..

Brian, I am doing my first 2 stage kandy blend but the underbase colour (4 coats too) from the paint code is an olive green (like army fatigues) and gives me a beautiful red metallic (hood only and 4 coats of red too), unfortunately, it is one and a half shades lighter than the car. Now when doing the other repair areas (minor scrapes and stone chips) I see there is a black underbase to the red metallic when I sand back. I got some black base and did a card with that under the red metallic. Yes it seems a small bit darker but still not that close to the car. Now how can I successfully blend this 2 stage colour? I am fine doing a base and clear blend, but am concerned with this discrepancy in shade may be too much. Suggestions?

I noticed you started at the bottom and went up. I was taught to start at the top and work down to avoid gravity from dropping dirt from the top into paint below. Basically work my way down so dirt falls to the ground and not into the base or clear I just painted. Is this viable practice or in your experience, it really doesn't matter? I don't have a paint booth so I have to paint in an open garage. Interested in your position on this technique as I'm still learning.
