The 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R ($146,005 starting in Canada, $109,145 starting in the US) and the Ram 1500 TRX ($108,790 starting in Canada, $83,890 starting in the US) are ready for some big, loud, supercharged drag races. While both of these trucks are more intended for off road Baja-type performance driving, Thomas and James couldn’t resist putting them beside each other on the drag strip. And after all, there may be one muddy surprise waiting after the pavement races.
Stats-wise, this should be an interesting set of races. The F-150 Raptor R has a mighty 700 horsepower, but the Ram has slightly more with 702 hp. It also has a slight torque advantage over the Ford, with 650 lb-ft compared to the Raptor R’s 640 lb-ft. However, the F-150 benefits from a significant weight advantage - being 400 lbs lighter - and a stronger power to weight ratio can do wonders for performance driving. We hope you enjoy the episode! As a Raptor owner, I've never thought about drag racing it. Off road racing is what makes it fun.

I’m a TRX fan, but you have to give Ford props for finally putting a V8 back in the Raptor. If I had a TTV6 version I’d be looking for a trade in for the R right away, for the sound alone. Honestly, I’d take either of these,they are both very impressive, and a hairs width apart in the stats.
The regular raptor still has the v6 unless you pay 150k you still get the v6

After owning a lot of v8 muscle cars, I kind of dig the turbo V6 more. Yeah the sound isn't there but turbos are fun to drive. None of it matters anyway since I can't afford any of them
@@ccclaw13 Fun to drive... so youre in boost more often. MPG in the V8 vs Turbo V6. Bet it's pretty equal or an good edge to the V8 if your driving style is the same. Jason Cammisa had a video on MPG with V8 vs downsized turbo. It's interesting to understand the dynamics.
The Weathertech headquarters is about 5 minutes from my house. We have the floor liners, trunk liner and even got seat protectors there for the dogs. Great company.

@@rau4329 Have a 14 SVT Raptor, had a 17 Jennifer...and yep, I'm just going by what the Ford KoolAid says...10 Speed = the BEST. And it's not about the last 3 gears, it's about the more aggressive gearing combined with the extra gears down low
@@rau4329 The extra overdrive gears let’s ford shorten the lower gears look at the ratios compared to the TRX. Plus the raptor has a 4.10 final drive ratio vs the 3.55 in the TRX.
I have had the opportunity to drive both the Gen 3 Raptor 37 and the TRX. The V8 in the Raptor is a very necessary upgrade IMO to compete with the TRX. The price difference is the kicker. I've sourced the Raptor R locally and I'm looking at $150K. I have a 2023 TRX on order fully optioned Level 2 with sunroof for $89K as there are RAM dealers that will sell at invoice. Both are great trucks.

It has the Level 2 package, the panoramic moonroof, the bed package, the technology package, the carbon fiber package, an engine block heater and the trailering package. MSRP $103,400 and out the door for $89,000 at Mark Dodge in Lake Charles, La. I had a 37 Gen 3 with the V6 TT ordered that was at $94,000 that I cancelled after having the oportunity to drive both vehicles. I'm not sure where the auto market or the economy is going but I feel better at buying at invoice than buying at $5000 or more over MSRP if the market goes south.

As a TRX Owner, I think Ford did a good job by making a Truck that has different pros and cons than the TRX. The biggest con to the Raptor R is the Price, because I got a Fully Loaded Level 2 TRX for $93k and that's including the $10K markup.

Only one way to explain the result: The extra weight of the WeatherTech Floor Liners slowed down the Raptor🤪
All Predator Raptors come with 37" tires, the TRX has 35"s, it has just a tad less mass to get moving than the Raptor. However when off roading, those larger tires allow it to get over any obstacle using less torque, the increased foot print of the bigger diameter tire gives it more traction.

I think they're pretty evenly matched. The Mopar has more supercharger whine. Good match up.
Cause Ford don't have a big Supercharger power like the Ram.

In the race across the marsh at the end, the body control on the Raptor was amazing. If I were actually looking to buy either one of these though, from a performance standpoint, the price difference appears hard to justify. Great video though even if I’m not really a “truck guy”.
Ultimately, the price difference only comes down to ADM on the Ford. All fully loaded TRX would cost the same the R, which by default, comes fully loaded. Whether $30K - $50K ADM is worth it, that’s subjective. The R looks cool to me personally. But I’m keeping my TRX.

if you want to turn corners or hit bumps and ruts at speed... Raptor destroys all other options out there that have not been modified or custom built. TRX is a city truck that can goof around offroad at higher level than most... Raptor is for sending it while having warranty parts

Everyone keeps saying "smaller tires" for the Raptor R while negating a couple of advantages it has over the TRX. It has 4.10 gears(TRX makes due with 3.55s), a wider ratio spread on the 10spd, and 400lbs less weight. Yes, 37s take more to spin, but the R does have some tricks up sleeve as well.
Upping the gearing like that doesn’t help in the 1/4 like you think. It helps with the torque multiplication from a stop but beyond that with the 10 speed it’s not doing much difference. The 2” tire size makes a HUGE difference.
Love the off road race hope y’all do more with off roaders.
My 21 Rebel came with factory laser cut floor protection., rams have many different packages, great video and fun 👍!, I think both trucks are awesome!top of the line!! It comes down to visual preference.

You guys create the best matchups out of anyone on social media doing something even remotely similar. There’s literally sometimes I have no idea who’s going to win because the cars are so evenly matched. You guys do such a great job and I’d also like to see you guys go off roading in these or a camping trip special or something with these 2 beasts to see which one is more acclimated to the wilderness. I know these are sand Baja trucks but I’m from Colorado and you see Raptors everywhere in ALL of the mountain towns so this is what we use them for here!
I absolutely love the fact that both of these truck exist.
I would buy the TRX due to the price difference. Most people that buy these trucks won't ever leave the pavement. I have put a 2019 Raptor through some really nasty stuff and it was impressive. I would still take the TRX.
I wouldn't buy anything from fiat. Worst customer service and they really struggle to honor their warranty.

I put my TRX through a half-flooded quarry almost every week. I bought it because it’s better than the Raptor in every way. The Raptor R only managed to semi-par the TRX in acceleration performance, but for WAY more money, and a much shittier interior. Plus the gen 3’s durability off-road is very suspect right now

I don't normally do free product plugs but the WeatherTech mats in my Acura TLX and '15 BMW X3 were less expensive and provided superior coverage and depth than my current BMW M340 and '18 X3 OEM all-weather mats. Both are great but the WeatherTech are absolutely excellent.

Remember the TRX is on 35's tires stock and the Raptor R on 37's stock, that makes a huge difference in acceleration aswell

But also yes I agree the 37s do kill alot of speed/power potential to keep going. @@bvillax1 Not at all, you are ignoring tons of other factors, theonly advantage the Raptor has is weight, the TRX has more hp (tho admittedly not much) more tq, and launch control while having smaller tires, do you realize the amount of advantages those bring to a simple weight difference ? Those don't just make up the weight difference, it should literally make it non existent. That's why the person is praising the Raptor for what it did. It's insane that it was that fast with less.

This line of work is reserved to baseline F-150s, Tundras, Silverados and RAMs. The high performance versions are no vehicles used for any sort of work except maybe commutes.

Well, since I can't afford either of those, and I did get Weathertech floor mats for my 2022 F-250 Tremor, I will say that they make a very good product that protects the carpet in my truck quite well! (now back to watching the video)!

As a TRX owner I love the Raptor R.
On a roll I can see how the transmission is a bit slow to downshift to a lower gear in auto.
RPM at 4000 in 2nd gear on the start of the roll would help Bc the boost is already there.
I’d be curious to know what gear RPM the TRX was in at the start of the roll race.
The Raptor R will be the ultimate truck in terms of exclusivity
And the R is on 37s slowing it down lol I prefer the R but if you have a trx you really aren't taking a L by making that choice. Comes down to preference 🤷♂️👌
