  • Update01/26/2018 "High RPM" Root Cause --Fuel injector leaking, after engine shutdown. Below video is comparing new Camry with this car startup at cold, new video link:
    • Gas smell with high RP...
The car has high engine RPM (about 2000) while the first time start the car, in the morning. And it will drop to 800 RPM in about 3 mins. If it really cold outside, the high RPM will last a little longer . I don't know if this is normal or not.

I had the same issue with my Toyota Corolla 2003 car. Cold start RPM was
sky rocketing 2600 and above. However, I managed to sort this out after
investigating for a long period (4 years ++ with spending lot of
money). Clean your MAF sensor and the throttle body including the IAC
valve openings. If your issue is not sorted, check short term and long
term fuel trim. If they are too high for a long period (above 6-7% for a
long period) then there is a vacuum leak(buy a cheap ECU scanner and
test this). If no vacuum leak you should remove the power socket from
your IAC. If you see a difference in RPM (if it goes up or down) you better change your IAC valve. Please note that some IAC allows you to manually adjust the idle RPM up
to some extend by rotating the IAC valve anti-clockwise(some Toyota
allows this). Therefore, before replacing your IAC valve you better
check for this adjustment. This will definitely sort your issue.

Thank you for your help. I already did MAF sensor clean, and I will do IAC plus throttle plate clean, after this year SMOG check. So far the car doesn't show any error code.

Hey um my Audi A6 has an issue going over 2000 RPM when I first syart it in the morning and it will stay there for about 5 seconds or little more or less. And then slowly it will go down to around 800rpm. I wonder what the problem could be?

Some cars have a thing in their computer where when the engine temperature is cold, the RPM cold star will be a little high and then it idles down after the engine warms up my 2007 Kia Sedona cold star RPM was about 2100 RPM then it would idle down when it was warm up. The idle would be like 700 or something but yes, some cars do have that.

For the ones that keep saying this is normal your wrong and right. What he is saying is before his car at cold start up was always 1400 rpms then drops as it warms but know at cold start its 2000 rpms so no this isnt normal.

If this was a cold start (meaningful the first time the engine was started in over 8 hours), I see nothing that unusual unless it caused the check engine light to activate. I would've liked to have seen the video continue on to see if the rpm lowered when the engine was completely warmed up.

Normal operation, in cold start engine does it to warm up as fast as possible! Then rpm goes to minimum hot operation that is less than 1000 and more than 600rpm

  • @angelisone
    @angelisone 4 роки тому +1

Hate to say it, but that is not normal.
2009 Toyota Corolla starts out @ 2,000rpm. Then engine (brand new) was replaced by dealership, 2,500rpm.
9 months later, 2,300rpm with very bad mpg. 2nd engine (brand new) installed got 2750rpm.
The Corolla has less than 37,000.
No one has the answer nor fix.
Sold the junk and will never touch a Toyota again.

That's how all cars works, rpm high at cold start, then drop when engine temperature increase, it controlled by the throttle control valve. If rpm stays low at cold start then increases as engine temperature increases then it a problem.

Hey, if it's still having this issue it's not normal... the engine shouldn't take that long on a summer day to level it's idle out. The most common cause is a dirty throttle body and iac valve, change the pcv valve as well if it hasn't been. Would only cost $100 for a shop to fix or a good afternoon project. Would only cost $25 if you did the work yourself

My brand new Tundra does the same thing and I hate it. Cold starts @ 1400-1600 rpm and takes longer than I have time to wait for it to drop below 1000 rpm so the trany thuds pretty hard when I put it in gear. The Ram it replaced started @1200 rpm but within a minute I could tap the gas pedal and it would drop to 900 or less rpm, both idle about 700 rpm when hot

I got a 2004 V6 3.3l solara with the same exact issue. From the outside of the car and especially with the hood up the car sounds super loud. And the gauge kinda goes up and down venue before dropping to 900-1200rpm. I've cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body it helped a little bit I think. I also get a "small EVAP leak" code sometimes which is probably linked to this but I can't find the leak. Did you ever find a solution?

  • @elevatorman427

This is completley normal on a cold start of the motor of most any engine. It still is a cold start even at 60 if that is the first start of the engine for that day. It lasting longer on colder days around 2000 RPM is probably normal as well as the engine takes longer to warm up long as once engine is warmed up fully it doesn't stay on 2000 rpm I don't think there is nothing to be concerned about your car. It actually sounds pretty good at the time you took video with 175 thousand miles.

I post another video about this issue, just go to 0:49 you can tell the different(ua-cam.com/video/0BVseZVlXhE/v-deo.html) I think it is caused by leaking fuel injector.

Mohammed Ali not sure and I’m not a mechanic but without any details of your car. but for starters investigate around the engine for any leaks underneath and check valves for any leaks than have someone start your car while you inspect the engine to see if anything looks weird. If ya didn’t find anything then the best thing to do is go to a mechanic shop if there’s no error code. If there is a error code take it to auto zone ask to borrow their code reader ( free btw) and they will give u a print out of what’s coming up. Whatever your problem is it is def not normal and it sounds like it’s gunna lead to a bigger problem don’t ignore it.

@@liyangtime Does this happen only when car is cold? It could be that injector seals are letting gas flow into cylinders over night, and when you come to start the car, the cylinders are flooded with gas. But this is only true if the car starts normally when its already warm.

    • @kristupasantanavicius9093
      @kristupasantanavicius9093 5 років тому

But I don't think flooded cylinder would cause surging like in your case. The puddle of gas should immediately ignite, and because there wouldn't be enough air, it would only be partly burned and come out as black smoke or something.
