    A week ago I recapped my 1.6 Xbox using the capacitor kit linked in the description and it didn't budge a single time during a 24 hour torture test in a poorly ventilated room. My brother got this system for christmas back in 2004 and in 2006 he gifted it to me for my birthday and I've been taking care of it ever since, I'm so happy to see it alive and kicking again. There are save games on it for over 500 games because it was modded in 2005 so simply powering this thing on is a massive trip through memory lane. Thanks for the video and the link to the capacitors, much better than having to buy them seperately or from a "trustworthy" Ebay seller.

    Great video. Did the replacement a week ago, before seeing this video. These board take so much heat (ground legs) and the used solder seems to need even more. I ended in wasting a lot low melt solder what worked most of the time in the first time, but for sure I am a very impatient person 🙂
    To make the mess even better, two pads at the SMD capacitors lifted. From there it was time to work under the microscope and create new pads. But it looks okay and works as intended. So I'm not thinking too much about it anymore.

    Those short pulses with the Hakko FR301 will get you into trouble with clogs, pull the trigger for a good full second or two.

    Great video, enjoy the detail! I ruined a 1.6 board when I recapped the small SMD caps, all other went well. Have another 1.6 board now and will try again

      It may not be ruined. The traces can be rebuilt. Good luck with the next board though!

    I have the same Engineer Solder sucker, totally worth the money, i bought cheap plastic ones and they never worked well, sometimes it is worth it to spend for better equipment

    What are your thoughts on twisting the smd caps off vs using hot tweezers?

    • @RetroRenegadeRepairs
      @RetroRenegadeRepairs  7 місяців тому

      That's honestly my preferred method, but if done incorrectly traces can get torn. Trace tearing rarely happens thankfully.

    Looks like someone has already replaced the 3300UF 6.3v capacitors already. I’ve recapped many 1.6 motherboards and I’ve never came across purple/gold caps

      Yea, I found that odd as well. I think this is probably the fourth 1.6 that I've seen with those caps replaced. I'm wondering if it was refurbished by Microsoft at some point.

      I have two 1.6's and they both have those Rubycon MBZ capacitors (gold/purple) they are stock and reliable.

      @@RetroRenegadeRepairs My 1.4 had rubycon caps and it was never opened I think maybe Microsoft just used whatever was on hand as my 1.1 used 22uf 50v from factory when it was supposed to be 22uf 25v
