I BROKE My Gladiator Rubicon on Pritchett Canyon
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 вер 2024
- Now that our Jeep Gladiator is on a 3" Rock Krawler X Factor lift and 37" Milestar Patagonia tires we wanted to take it to Moab to run the hardest trails Moab has to offer. Our final stop was the Pritchett Canyon trail which is the hardest trail in Moab and deserves the title. Pritchett Canyon is no joke and would prove to be a major challenge with the wheelbase and departure angle of the Gladiator. With us were our friends in their Jeep Wrangler JLU Rubicon on 37s, and a Jeep Wrangler JKU Sport on 35s.

The dude taking all of this on in an open diff JKU should be an inspiration to all Jeep owners.
I get great joy going places people say I can’t! 😂😂😂 see a line, pick a line and go for it!
And one it became a tow mission, I changed how I approached the obstacles because I didn’t want John to have to tow two rigs out. Lol
@@skinnypedalexpress4170 It was awesome to see the can do attitude!
Well he wasn’t actually doing it on open diffs,, he has brake lock diffs which are “Almost” as good as locking diffs.. like i said “Almost” but still dam good.. thats what i have on my Jeep also , i dont do trails like this hard but Jeep badge of honor trails non the less and brake lock diffs have never let me down..
@@PhatboyHD88 they don’t work when you get jammed into a rock like I did on cliffhanger…
What an adventure. Memories are forever, but apparently some parts are not. Thanks for sharing.
One of my favorite trails. Did it twice, once over EJS and once the week after 2021.
Not for the faint of heart or those afraid of breaking things.
I have a Jeep Gladiator (same color) with a 2 inch lift and 35's...I love hitting the trails but I won't be doing this one! Thanks for taking one for Team Gladiator
Awesome! Thanks!!
Great video and great driving! Thanks for showing the whole trail! I enjoyed this 👍🏻
Freaking Best Series of Moab Videos in a long time! keep it up! And great job to the guy in the JKU Sport!!!
Thank you so much!!
Thanks!!! It was a blast!
Ooof that was nerve wrecking to watch on some obstacles. Gonna go ahead and check this one off the list. Lol
Great video, Matt. I hate you broke the u-joint. Looks like it killed some of the fun for you. “Hats off” to Nick for tackling this trail with a positive attitude. He’s always up for the challenge.
Thanks!!
Matt I’m speechless. Respect to all you guys. Onwards and upwards.
Thanks!!!
Matt, as a Jeep owner, I live vicariously through you off-road wise!
Thank you!!
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures i cried and was scared
Its amazing some wheel these Gladiators like Wranglers. It's a truck with longer wheelbase and yeah, still a jeep... but so are a lot of jeeps... Just not Wranglers. I like em a lot...but I'd never trade the capability of my JK for a truck. I decided on a small trailer to haul my stuff as needed decades ago in the CJ years... but hey, glad everyone is out enjoying their rides! 👊
I'm not wheeling mine like a Wrangler. I owned Wranglers for years and just want to see what this thing can do and learn it's pros and cons. I am very impressed with it.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures I should have said I meant some I saw in the background and other vids... I do apologize on that. I feel like (for me) my JK is better than my JKU (was too fancy) and I luke the smaller size since it's all I ever wheeled from the 80s... Cj, Yj, Tj, etc..
Have fun out there!
Looking forward to you attempting this again soon
Wow, OMG, that was an awesome video, I have mad respect, serious street cred!
thanks!!
That was a thorough ass-whooping lol
Agreed!!
I had this same feeling when my buddy tore up his transmission trying to get through the mud hole on Frog Bayou Falls trail. I was so ready for that trail to end.
that's a long one too!!
What an amazing adventure!! I've been digging your channel more and more as the videos keep rolling out. I like that yall actually get out and adventure. The camera angles and clarity are great as well. Keep it up!
Thank you so much!!
I cannot thank you enough for showing this video, and the physical exhaustion. I'm definitely crossing this off my list - JLU Sahara with a D30 front? Nope.
Thanks!!
Awesome video. Those Gladiators are long and are hard to wheel. You did a good job.
Thanks!! I'm getting used to the back end. They are incredibly capable!!
What a great video. Appreciate y’all sharing the good, the bad and the ugly. Thought someone might have to call Matt’s Off-road Recovery but congrats on getting through it yourselves!!
Why call Matt moab has Rory Irish with trail mater lol 😆
Great video brought back a lot of memories from when I ran Pritchett Canyon 10 years ago , at the time did it in my 2011 JKUR with 35s and 2.5" lift. Would love to take my 2022 Gladiator Rubi there someday and do it again. 👍
Round 2 on Pritchett in my Gladiator comes out next friday.
That looks like fun! “Well, broke a U joint. Guess we gotta do a 60/80 axle swap 🤷♂️”. 🤣.
😂😂
WOW! great stuff Matt and Cara! Not our thing, just a little too hard core, but damn.... kudos to you for doing it. The area looks beautiful. I will stick with the milder stuff haha! Keep on posting!
Love all your videos! I have been impressed by all of the places you go. I would like to see a little more conversation about the safety issues and safe usage of winch lines when they are being used. It never hurts to keep that on the minds of your followers.
Actually came across your channel looking at solar generators. Lol. Saw your Jeep Rubi and kept watching... mainly b/c I have an LJ Rubi. Since I love Moab, had to watch even tho there are hundreds of youtube off road/overland channels... can't watch 'em all! Lol. I've done most all the extreme trails in Moab, Pritchett is one I will never try... got to know your limits! Haha! Pritchett is no joke! Kudo's for giving it a whack! And yeah, video rarely does a trail justice, way more extreme in person!
Awesome! Thank you!
Congratulations 🎉🎊 on conquering the 7 levels of pain. You’ve earned a soak 🛁 in a hot tub and a 90 minute chiropractor session lol.
Thanks for sharing this one. Reality is real!
Thanks!!
Great video! Sorry she broke. I agree with Cara “this is ridiculous” haha.
Thanks!
I've done Pritchett many times on my dirt bike. I've seen a LOT of welders in action during my time there. haha! Congrats for trying!
That sounds suicidal. 😂
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Well, we always go DOWN on the dirt bikes. Still ugly though! That last little climb out, which was your first climb in, can be nasty after you are already tired. Haha! I can't believe you did that in the summer! I did that in late May one year and swore: Never again. The heat was awful!
Friends are your salvation here? Your wife is the best part of your videos. She is miss personality, and if you haven’t told her that you love her and how much you appreciate her, you then need your butt kicked. ❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍😁🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👏👏👏🤗 when is the next video coming out?🤷
I'm a very lucky man!!!
Best. Comment. Ever. 🥰🥰🥰
Great job! Maybe one day we will have a rig that can attempt this!
I don't recommend it. LOL
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures I’d bet you would try this one again.
Yep.
I have been around there for 26 years, off-roaders that haven't done this trail have no idea how difficult this trail is. Big congratulations doing Pritchett Canyon with those rigs, they are not modified for this, so, again a big congrats, the filming is awesome as well. This event you guys did, should be in every Jeep dealership. Btw. The lady is very cool as well.
Thanks!!!
Nick definitely inspired me I have been scared to do this trail in my jku on 1tons and 40s now I feel like a chump.
Glad you enjoyed it! Go for it! I’m ready for round 2 on this one.
@@skinnypedalexpress4170 I'm going to be in moab in 2 weeks I'm definitely going to do it now. I really want the bragging rights for pritchett canyon. I made it to chewy and turned around before.
wow! that was a lesson in winching for sure! pretty insane! Great job! Thank you for sharing!
Yeah I totally agree about the BLD thing that you said. Even though I have a rear Locker, sometimes I don't want to use it unless I'm driving really straight or have LOTS of slip because I don't want to break an axle or something. I feel like you're far less likely to break an axle using BLD.
The other cool thing about BLD is that by design it will wiggle you back and forth because of alternating left and right and this might help you find traction, honestly.
I love this channel... you all take the hits with a humor we all should learn from.
Thanks!!
Wow nice trail! Love the second jeep without door,,,,great driver!!!
It is almost as much fun to watch you tear up stuff as it would be to tear up my own stuff! However, my aircraft carrier class full size GMC Sierra AT4 has the muscle, it is way too long and wide to try stuff like this. Much cheaper to watch you!! Thanks for another great video! At least a U Joint is cheap and easy to replace. WTG all of you on this amazing adventure!!!!
It ended up shearing the inner axle shaft…it was a doozy and I’m glad we made it out!
Super easy fix!! Nothing was damaged on the inside. Thanks!!
After watching this video all you guys and ladies are awesome
Wow unbelievable, you guys are crazy. But it was a great adventure.
Thanks!! LOL
Love your channel. Gotta do Pritchett with Gus from the local club. Big balls man big balls! Again love your content man!
First off, much respect to all the drivers, spotters and rock stackers! Lots of work and bravery to have some fun and conquer some of Mother Nature’s best.
Second, damn are Jeeps amazing and capable vehicles. A mild lift and larger tires and they are virtually unstoppable.
Third, absolutely zero shame in winching. That’s what it’s there for. Being smart gets you back home safe and in one piece.
Great video and a great reminder of how small Mother Nature can make us look . Thanks for sharing and Jeep on. There’s only one! 0|||||||0
Thanks so much!! I totally agree!
That was pretty crazy. Your working hard so I don't have to, I definitely won't take my Gladiator through there unless I'm with a very experienced group. GREAT VIDEO THANKS! Nevermind I'll just avoid it completely. 😆 🤣 😂
Glad I could help. LOL. Thanks!
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures I made my comment halfway through the video, then it just kept getting crazier. That's when I changed my mind completely.
@@JEEPIMPACT 😂😂😂
Wow! Great job. I can only imagine how exhausting that was! Looking forward to the ‘nap’ video 🤪
I wish I had included a video of me in bed at the end. LOL!
What a trail! Oh my!!
Thanks for the comedy special
Awesome run....!!!!!
Thank you!
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Your most welcome. That was an epic adventure for sure o e you will always remenber.
Regardless - Y'all did a hell of job!!!
Rock crawling is fun but also super stressful and no one ever talks about that side of it lol
Totally agree!
You won’t hear me mention stressful…😂😂😂
Looks like a fun trail
Time for RCV's! Glad that was the only carnage. Would have hated to see body damage.
That thought did cross my mind. But I actually like. having the UJoint as the weak point. If I ever break another I'll have a spare and it's an easy trail fix.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Agreed. If you can run Pritchett in a Gladiator and all you need is a ujoint after, I'd call that a win. RCV's have other benefits though.
Awesome video!
Glad you enjoyed it
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures I wish the gladiator a speedy recovery 🤕
Real world vehicles , doing out of this world S#!&.
This is insane. My Gladiator is helping build my barn into a residence. It’s a work truck. This is just a waste of money destroying it as a plaything.
😂😂😂 A Gladiator Rubicon is not a work truck. It’s the most capable off road truck you can buy. If you’re using a Gladiator Rubicon as a work truck then that’s a waste of money. I didn’t destroy my Gladiator. I just broke a U joint which was easily fixed. See all my videos since this one to see how well it’s doing.
Time for RCV’s!
the thought did cross my mind. lol
Start working on your cardio! Lol, nice job fellas...rough trail!
LOL. Thanks!
MORE. under skid blades were needed everywhere.
It has skid plates from the factory.
Some youtubers claim the plastic plates from the factory are worthless in the real low going. I would want the whole bottom protected WITH metal if I could afford it.
There are no plastic skid plates on Jeeps.
People forget the gladiator is a truck. “It’s long” no sh*t it’s not a wrangler it’s a truck. Gladiators are really capable for being a truck.
Yes they are!!
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Great video and awesome truck!
Great one... :) love from India..👍
Thanks! 😃
Love Pritchett canyon!!
It won’t be out of our mind for awhile!!
Got my noti on!
Thanks!!
Man, that jeep sounds way overdue for a date with a grease gun ! Awesome video though! Super nerve wracking driving a nice shiny undamaged vehicle through Pritchett!
Yes it was. Thank you.
What is the lift and wheel/ tire set-up on the Wrangler Rubicon? Great video btw. Brutal trail.
2" Rubicon Express lift and 37s. Thanks!!
I like the Gladiator but taking it to a place like that was like watching a lifted f150 try and negotiate the rocks. I guess some things are just meant for dare I say real jeeps and rock crawlers.
But great video and some serious skills, love Moab.
My F-150 goes places jeeps won't.
Sick! Great job getting out of there 😅
This was a great watch. Too often the winching and rock stack recoveries get edited out, but this is a great way for everyone to learn. Hilarious sound effects. Sorry about the axle. Hey, what front bumper is on the gray JLUR? I think John’s rig? That’s a good looking bump 👍✌️🤙
Motobilt Crusher with Bull Bar
@@JohnBrodowski1 very nice - thanks 🙏
Good thing the shaft didn’t take out your lower ball joint.
Agreed! The Ball joint seems to be fine.
Omg what a trail. Or ridiculous trail as Cara stated! However, reading some of the comments it is popular trail. Adrenaline trail.
I’ll do my best to attend, but I (Matt) have cigars, scotch, and a lake on the agenda. If signal is good, count me in.
I’ll let you pass this one time.
Lookin at your jeep makes me almost wish I had ordered Hydro Blue. Nice looking build you have there.
Thanks 👍
Nice video, however I can not believe you crossed over the winch line under load
BAHAHAHA!! Another Couch Critic who wasn't there. You can tell in the video the winch line barely had tension on it much less actually under load. I hadn't started winching yet.
8:43 Great shot showing how off camber that obstacle is but dam I wouldn't stand there.
He was behind a big rock. Lol
Insane
You're not wrong.
I see RCS axle shafts in your future...
Nope. I’d much rather a U-Joint fail than a ring and pinion.
Got exhausted watching Matt huffin and puffin, bitchin and moanin and groanin……scenery was great though
It was a rough day.
Time for Rock Jock 60s and 40s on the JT
Hmm, now I want to see a supercut of you comparing your jk Rubicon and gladiator.
very hard trail!!!!!rest and repair the jeep!!!
Time for RCV axles, or semi float 60s. I hope to have that soon as well.
I actually like having my U Joints be my weakest link because they are easy and cheap to fix. If I went RCVs then I risk my ring and pinion becoming my weakest link and if that breaks them I'm hating life and spending a bunch of money to get it fixed.
I've hit this trail many years ago with a built Sammy and Rock Buggy and it was pretty dang hard with both. I never did winch and my buggy made it up Rock Pile with no rocks, that was pretty bad@$$.
I bet that was awesome!
The gladiator’a suspension makes way more noise than I would have expected, is this normal? Great video!
Yeah I forgot to grease the control arm joints before the trip. I greased them as soon as I got home. All quiet now. Thanks!!
13mm Star socket (12point) ;)
Big pucker factor
Well yeah, what’s new… what did you expect?
28:22 Could he have gone around the back?
36:22 Maybe a little further from the line?
Great video!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks!!
Does Sully have a cracked spring ?
no. Why?
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Probably thought that was the noise that the joints were making.
“Off camber son of a bitch” 😂😂😂😂
Hey bud, thought i'd give you a heads up, I bought an EB70 and tried to use your discount code in the description and they said it was invalid
Hmmmm. Thanks for the info. I'll look into it.
You gotta love folks who go wheeling with open differentials. Like WTH are you doing!?!?
He’s wheeling. And doing well.
Driving the hell out of it. The only reason I didn’t send it like I normally do is because we had one broken rig and didn’t need another one! If I ever need any off-road advice, I’ll be sure to reach out to you!
What do you think caused the failure, the extreme angle? Assuming you were locked front and rear, maybe the fact that that axle was taking 90% of the power and torque? Did the u joint fail or the stub shaft holding the u joint?
the U Joint failed. I was locked. Had to have been the strain. You can see that the passenger tire doesn't move when you hear the pop.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures good to know that the u joint is definitely the weak link.
That front bumper popped that u-joint!
@@skinnypedalexpress4170 that’s a good possibility
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures I saw it with my own eyes! Lol
That is NOT the hardest trail in Moab. Just FYI. Great video and thanks for sharing.
Which one is? Thanks!!
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures Coyote Canyon is a 10.5 rated trail. Pritchett is a 9.
Area BFE looks like it’s open again so black flag 12 rated and rage against the machine 11 rated along with Helldorado rated 10 would be added to the list of trails harder than Pritchett. There might be others but that’s all I know.
Hardest that we will do. 😂
@@AdventureAwaits4u everyone of those takes rigs that aren’t road worthy of 1400 miles one way…lol
@@skinnypedalexpress4170 not true and I don’t think that’s how you rate “The hardest trail in Moab”. So many people are driving across the country and hitting the hardest trails they can find and driving home. (No trailers) Think Ultimate Adventure style. This is not a jab at anyone just wanted to let you know Pritchett is not the hardest trail in Moab. Yes Jeeps with tags and insurance hit trails like Coyote Canyon and drive home.
Sorry if this has been asked before…unfortunately I don’t have time to read through and don’t think a word search can be done. What is the source of the creaking heard in the video? Have you been able to diagnose it? It seems to the the worst I’ve heard and want to head mine off at the pass. It would drive me crazy. Thanks in advance.
Im fairly new to overlanding. With a history of wheeling, I’ve just reached a point in my where I want to take in the sights a little more and stop breaking and upgrading. As a wheeler, that was a painful video to watch. If you have to stack rocks (that much) you shouldn’t be on the trail. AND if you do stack rocks to get up/over, then remove them when you’re done. You’re changing the trail.
I see your point but you've clearly never run Pritchett Canyon before.
what psi where you running, 🧐, nice video loved
12ish PSI
Oh Noooooo! Hate to see it.
My hat off to you and all who did Pritchett canyon. I think I’ll stay away from those trails. Much respect for OOA!!
This is a great video. What size lift does the jku with 35s have on it .
is this the winch failure moment that drove you to your current winch?
Yep
What size tires and lift are you running.
3" and 37s
What size is his lift? On 37s?
3" and 37s
