Water depth on gladiator is 33”, which is the stock tire size on the Rubicon, Mojave is a little taller, but all your important electric things reside about ‘middle of the grill’….radiator fan and alternator. Then if you do manage to swamp it to the point where a snorkel keeps you from sucking in water, your battery and several fuse blocks are only ~ 1” different than the air intake hole the snorkel plugs into. Not hating, just saying, I crossed water a little over my 33s the other day, then looked under the hood at the water/mud lines, it was closer to the sparky and shocks bits than I’d prefer

Great video on showing the cost. My Gladiator is pretty much built the same way but I purchased the base Sport model with max tow package for $43,000. It’s really the best way to save $20K.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures I have to disagree for $20k I can add many upgrades making a sport model better than a Rubicon however I would like to have those leather seats.

I am in the beginning stages of building an overlanding vehicle out of a 2014 Wrangler JKU. We bought it stock for a great price over a year ago and we absolutely love the vehicle. I sold my 2014 Silverado to buy this Wrangler. I am extremely cheap and do a lot of research to make sure I am getting the most for my money. A lot of what you explained in this video really hit home with me and reassured me in a lot of ways that I am going about my build logically and efficiently. I am really enjoying your channel. I do like your set up and you definitely do as well. It works and you enjoy it. I’m glad you made this video and liked it. But at the end of the day it makes you happy so carry on.
Matt, thanks for taking the time to put this together. For you, I think this was the logical step up from Knuckles. Not so sold on the aux lights. Hey! I do like having new tech. Not really here to sell anyone on anything. We just weren’t able to outfit the grand Cherokee with the armor it needed for us. The bronco, while being awesome, is a huge unknown for us when we both have experience with Jeeps. When we are on the road full time, I will need a vehicle that can 1) go to the remote places we plan to travel to and 2) allow an extra vehicle for when either Matt goes on trails and I have to stay back or when his Jeep has to have repairs. We don’t want to be stranded with no means of travel. So while, we won’t have the ability to take everything we own with us full time..another vehicle has always been a given.
Matt, I absolutely love your honesty ... would I spend my own money for it... No. So many YT channels just give great blanket reviews because of the free stuff. I will defiantly checking out some of the vendors you mentioned.
I just ordered a 22 Rubicon extreme recon plus lots of other options and when I priced it online at home it was 59k but when I got to the dealer most options went up and added about 2k to the build. Probably 2 years ago it would have been a good amount less but entertainment is not cheap and if it lasts 5-10 years it’s a good deal.
Came in less than I expected. I appreciate your transparency. I’m currently building a submarine, I mean 4 runner… it’s not cheap but if it makes you happy go for it. Doesn’t hurt when you can write it off as a business expense,I need to figure that part out.

Crazy expensive over all but for what you do it only makes sense. For the average weekend overlander and hobbiest, I couldn’t imagine it. I would love a Jeep gladiator but right now im happy to have my ford. Great video!
I really enjoyed your candid and honest break down of everything in your build. A Gladiator is in my near future so I'm looking everywhere for build ideas. Thank you.
Yes that is crazy. $88k for a truck is nuts. That's way more than I paid for my first house. That being said I am $40K into my Tacoma build. I am getting ready to drop $2.2K into a Toytech lift kit and another $1.5K into a wench and rock sliders. This whole hobby is insanely expensive. It is however a lot of fun. I wish they would send me stuff for free.
as for your total... just shy of 90k for as much truck as you have got... I am impressed. I was contemplating trading in my Tacoma for a jeep just because you can go to 35" tires with no fuss and there are some DEEP ruts on some of the trails around here but when I started crunching numbers... 70k for the Gladiator Rubicon diesel with all the right accessories plus big tires and new wheels, skids, bumpers, sliders, cage (guessed based on a JL cage as the JT cage is still in development), racks, recovery, not even getting into my camping gear I was soon looking at 120k+... I decided I was sticking with my Tacoma... 30k worth of parts on top of the $35k I spent on it and I SHOULD have it where I want it. I will admit jeeps are SLIGHTLY superior off roaders only in that they come from the factory able to handle larger tires than a Tacoma... Tire size being equal, I would say Jeep vs Taco... 50/50 Advantages and disadvantages... but price... My Taco wins. It does take significant mod to go to 35 in a Toy, and it takes an over the top (and over priced) suspension to ride 40s on a Taco. 285/75r17 is considered a great tire size by much of the overlanding community... but it is just barely adequate if you also want to do crawling on serious trails. If I had the money to blow on it... yeah... I might consider a diesel Gladiator... (I might wait for a 4xe Gladiator, but I expect those would run me 80k with all the right accessories, and I can not justify that on less than 100k/yr income.)
Yep... Rock sliders are NOT cheap but they're worth it. Im right there with you. About $1000. Even the factory option was $1000+ for my Cherokee Trailhawk (I didn't get those but looked into OEM while shopping).. (5 inch Frog Fab is what I got I think for just under $800). I actually had somebody else put them on because you had to drill out 36 holes. Worth it !
It sounds about right, love the build. I was looking at picking up a gladiator and going with a Metal Cloak / JCR off road build. Right now all my attentions are on my CJ and Ram. My CJ is a never ending build that I started back in 2015 and I break out the Chip Foose rendering sketch pad every week tweaking the build. I'm picking up the VL75ProD and I love that slide. You might find your self trying to talk the wife into getting a RIPP SC added to her Jeep so you can swap into yours a few months down the road.
Great build in the Jeep owners spirit of customization. Kudos. Ready to see your next Gladiator build after learning what you did on this one. Onwards and upwards. Again, Kudos, fellow Jeeper!
For the price it is sooooo worth it. In my mind coming from the Overlanding side of the industry that builds 4x4 E series vans…This is actually budget friendly lol. It’s an amazing build, I think you did a great job & built the perfect gladiator. Bravo. Heck my JK with Ursa minor top almost cost this much and way less room. At some point I’ll build a gladiator because of your build.
Love this video. So much great info. Would you ever consider doing a video just on the power in the back? I am new to this and trying to figure out batteries/Redarc/Inverter and all of that is so confusing.

Maybe it’s a nostalgia thing for me I really like the KC HiLites light bar. I think it looks great. Before I watched the video I told my wife it’s gotta be close to 100k build. I was over by a bit but it’s a sweet rig.
Loved the video and all the info. Just bought a 2022 Gladiator Mojave with the intentions of doing an over land build. This was a big help and gave me a lot of ideas of prices and what to buy and not to buy. Thanks love the channel.
That’s an awesome setup. If I had the money and the room. I won’t having a set up just like the one you got. The best part is. My wife likes the Gladiators too.
It’s only 8am but I’m confident you’re going to win the dumbest comment of the day award. I know a bunch of non UA-camrs that own Rubicons. 🤷🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️😂
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures it was a joke. Yikes! It was more a comment on how the vast majority of jeeps on the internet are rubicons. But us “working class folk” are buying cheaper models. That’s all. But thanks for the dismissive and condescending comment.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures it wasn’t. Read it again but with less “mad.” It was all in good fun. Didn’t know you were going to get so hurt by a simple comment. That being said; I didn’t call your comment stupid like you called mine. I didn’t go after you. I made a joke about how all I see are rubicons on UA-cam. You put yourself in the public space with your videos. Expect criticism and jokes made at your expense. Sorry you chose that life if you can’t handle it. I thought your video was good. But I’m starting to think YOU are not.
Hi Matt!! I was wondering if you had a part number for your airbags? I’ve got the 3.5” game changer lift kit from metal cloak, I tow a Boreas XT and do experience some sag. Hoping these bags will help.
Great video and thank you. Although $88k is a ton of money, it was very "thoughtful". You could have easily added thousands of dollars to this build and been around $100k. We are going through our own Rubicon Overland build and trying to be "practical"; this video is helping us make some important trade-offs. Thanks again! Also, love the new Wrangler Xtreme - awesome!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video and appreciate your candor. Have you ever thought about a RSI Smartcap to keep the back of your cab dust free. I have no affiliation with RSI Smartcap. Great Channel 👍🏽
Great video. There are multiple budget friendly ways to up-fit a rig for overlanding. I bought multiple knock off/used led lights, cases, etc, in order to spend $$ for other quality items. Love the Sully build and the rest of your vids. Keep em coming!
Great video, thanks for making this. This gives a great perspective on cost especially for someone that is doing this for fun and not for their job. This will help me talk my wife into spending more money too HA HA.
Thanks for the video. It is a lot of money but sounds like it is worth it. I do like your videos. I was wondering how much you had into your rig. I did like the price of the front bumper not the rear. I was wondering why you wouldn't have gone with a 4 or 6 inch lift. You know better clearance. Would like to see a video of how you had your switches all wired in and working. I probably missed it. Thanks keep it up
Thanks! My philosophy is the keep it as low as possible to run the size tires I want to run. I like a low center of gravity. Plus the higher you go the more you have to change.
Awesome build I’m not as interested in some of the hardcore trails that you go but it’s a beautiful rig. We live in Louisiana so you aren’t that far away. I’m really glad I found your channel and we’re going to use it as some inspiration to go to.
Thanks for making this video bro. I am getting my gladiator soon and you have shown me a lot of much less expensive items that I didn't know were available...thanks for taking the time and beautiful rig btw !!
For a family that lives/breathes it 24/7 like you guys, it's well worth it. For a day-tripper, occasional weekend warrior like myself...I will stick with my $30K Wrangler build lol. Great video!
You have an awesome rig. Its been fun watching you build Sully, but I almost suffered a stroke when I heard the final price. I've also enjoyed watching you learn how to wheel that beast... almost persuaded me to become a Jeep person.
And therein lies the beauty of what we do. We can all have the things we want on our vehicles just at different price points. It's great you get some things for free, so cool. But I like that you are also budget minded and don't just spend it to have the top of the line when it doesn't need to be. Yeah those Roam boxes are nice but the $20 plastic ones from Home Depot work well too. Well done video and thanks for your candor.
I will check Global Road Outdoors for a tent like that. I am trying to find something that will fit ok on my Jepp Grand Cherokee that is a reasonable price.
I think it's perfectly fine there's a lot of people that buy franchises and things like that for way more money. I don't think they have as much fun with what they have as you have with what you have

@@OzarkOverlandAdventures just a suggestion…you should do a short 2 minute video on what you did to store a 37” tire under your JT. If you do a UA-cam search for storing an oversized spare on a JT, most of the returns are for external carriers.
Great video! I was just wondering if you have other videos installing some of these equipment?
Everything I've done to my Gladiator is documented on the channel. I have a whole build series playlist.
Excellent video, glad to see a actual price with all the good stuff.
Excellent build, lots of practical good upgrades. I appreciate your transparency! Looks perfect for what you are doing!
Thanks!! I have two videos on the power setup. One install video and one comparison to a power station.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures ok thanks, time to go hunting through your vids.
I love your set up on the Gladiator and I think it works for you. I love that you are honest in your reviews. No hate since I know this is your job. Keep it up I love the channel........ that being said you should give Cara her lights back lol.
Facts.
Thanks! Be sure and check out my latest video on things that have changed since this video.
That's an awesome T-shirt!
That’s an awesome setup. If I had the money and the room. I won’t having a set up just like the one you got. The best part is. My wife likes the Gladiators too.
Best video I’ve ever seen. Love everything about it! THANKS for posting.
@@TeensierPython right. Your comment wasn’t derogatory in any way. You need to get better at telling jokes.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures don’t worry. I’ll delete my comment because of your hurt feelings. Thanks for silencing me.
Very nice build 🙂 I would have expected it to be much more expensive. Great video and very informative. Do you have a link for the fridge slide?
Very impressive video great info and opinions thank you for your hard work sir 👍
Thank you!! The Gladiator is such and incredible platform and so many choices in how you build it.
This video is great! I'm only 10 minutes, and one glass of wine into it.
GREAT VIDEO ! EDITING IS SO PROFESSIONAL!!
Thank you so much!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video and appreciate your candor. Have you ever thought about a RSI Smartcap to keep the back of your cab dust free. I have no affiliation with RSI Smartcap. Great Channel 👍🏽
We actually considered an RSI when we first got it but I didn't want my tent up that high and it wouldn't fit in my garage.
I personally love the Smartcap and was all for it. Ideally it would be nice for a company to make a 1/2 height option like it.
Love the honesty! Thank you for this video
Honestly, that build suits me perfectly!
Awesome build I’m not as interested in some of the hardcore trails that you go but it’s a beautiful rig. We live in Louisiana so you aren’t that far away. I’m really glad I found your channel and we’re going to use it as some inspiration to go to.
Haha I see what you did there 😂. JK Simmons reference trading in your JK.
Nice vid. I can’t find the switch panel you put in the bed. Can you please tell me what brand it is?
Thanks man!
Love your build Crqzy money. Long term project indeed. Plenty of great ideas
That is an insane number lol.
What do you do for a living to be able to spend that kind of bread on a rig?!?!?!
My mind is blown!
UA-cam is my full time job.
We’re debating between this and the Raptor 37 we also have the UEV 490, love your videos!!
You have an awesome rig. Its been fun watching you build Sully, but I almost suffered a stroke when I heard the final price.
I've also enjoyed watching you learn how to wheel that beast... almost persuaded me to become a Jeep person.
Have you tried the Maxy Trac air compressor? It blows all the other ones out of the water! and it's only $100 (with an easy napatext coupon)
If my Smittybilt ever dies that’s what I’ll go with.
Thank you!
What a beauty!
Ever have this thing on the scales? What's it weight in at? Have you upgraded the brakes at all?
Question: For someone who splits their time between the outer banks and the blue ridge mountains... would you do a Mojave or Rubicon? Thanks.
Great video. Thanks for the advise!
ActionTrax are awesome you'll appreciate them eventually
Great video thanks! I can’t find the kitchen slide. Do you have a link?
Showing cost and how it worked for you , great !
I will check Global Road Outdoors for a tent like that. I am trying to find something that will fit ok on my Jepp Grand Cherokee that is a reasonable price.
Give them a call. their website is being redone and doesn't have everything on it.
What radio antenna do you have on the driver's side and how is it tied into your light bar?
I think you’ve dove a great job on your built!
Thank you!
I think it's perfectly fine there's a lot of people that buy franchises and things like that for way more money. I don't think they have as much fun with what they have as you have with what you have
I have a few questions about that front bumper. Do the factory led fogs fit? Also do you think the harbor freight badlands 12k winch will fit?
Could you tell me what the antenna that is mounted on the bed rack is for?
It’s a cell booster I’m testing. Not sure I’m keeping it yet.
I've got $85K into a 19 JLUR and it is not set up for overlanding. If you want to play, you gotta pay! When you buy quality, you only cry once.
Wow that's a lot cheaper then I thought. Especially considering the vehicle is like 65k. Thanks for the breakdown super cool to learn.
Do you insure all the accessories and modifications?
Yes. According to my agent they are covered. They better be! 😂
If you ever get a chance, would you ever get Dodge Ram Prospector XL AEV 2500 or 3500? Do you think you can do all your obstacles on any of the two Ram choices and replace jeep gladiator??
Amazing Rig!!! Good taste and nothing crazy. Just looks bad ass!!!!
One thing ……..you didnt mention a toilet?????
Haha. Well if we travel, sometimes we bring it. But when it’s just him..he doesn’t. But I wouldn’t say it’s a staple to the build of his rig.
@@frenchie4wd you guys need to do a segment on which model and seriously where you use it? Lol
I am always wondering where everyone goes
Great videos!!!!!!
@@wranglernator We go in to the woods... In British Columbia... 😁😁😁
Makes sense!! I dig it!!
No hate at all. You got to do you! Great breakdown, your honesty and no BS reviews are great. Folks who are floored by the cost really dont understand what you are getting from your vehicle
Hey Matt. With the Clayton rear track bar can you store your 37” Milestar inflated? Or does it not fit in the shroud?
It's fully inflated.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures thank you sir! I run the same tires and have been running without a spare because it was hitting the track bar, even fully deflated. Just ordered the Clayton track bar.
@@OzarkOverlandAdventures just a suggestion…you should do a short 2 minute video on what you did to store a 37” tire under your JT. If you do a UA-cam search for storing an oversized spare on a JT, most of the returns are for external carriers. I’d bet there are a lot of JT owners would love to know about the track bar as a way to increase the capacity under the bed. A very cost effective solution!!
I Love it , ive been waffeling between a Gladiater and a Tacoma .....will prolly waffle it till i get in a place to just go talk to a dealer lol. Do you ever take folks that wanna learn HOW to overland out on weekend trips where they are a passenger? My Ram 4 door 1500 is a bit big to do the trails you do , although i watch some videos and am like "i could do that or that , id get stuck there , and not a chance " lol I want to get out here though. Havnt heard where your based , but im based in russellville.
I'm late to seeing this video. But I'm looking at putting power in my bed as well. Do you have the link for rocker switches?
Here's what I used... amzn.to/33WalUX
Here's the video - ua-cam.com/video/Wqy7YTYpvjg/v-deo.html
Beautiful rig I bet it’s a blast to drive , sheesh that’s a lot of coin !! But it’s worth it 👌🏽
Worth every penny
Well worth it good job
Thank I'm thinking about getting Van and doing that and getting out of the city
