I've only done under pinning once. See if I can explain this well enough. Along the top of the ply, in the middle, that touches the old foundation, cut a 6" square out, as though you want to pur concrete into it. But create a ply box with an open top over that hole. As you fill the box up, it pours in behind the ply and upto the bottom of the foundation. When it's gone off, you just have a lump of concrete to break off where the box was. But it means you filled it all in one go.
Hi i think you are trying to explain a “letterbox” Doing it that way you can pour in one save the packing after. This is how you would pour say RC column repair
Dry packing always better in my book as if you leave concrete down then any shrinkage in setting concrete is taken up by dry pack 75mm usually. Also we tend to drill concrete once poured and fix continuity bars T16 then your not catching your face etc on rebar , just my thoughts.
The number of times i've had to get rid of bulging concrete due to poor fixing of shuttering. Always easy to chisel off the next day . Loving this series.. excellent work and superb explanation of each detail on the way.. well done..

nice to see the underpinning process done. Living in a london town house foundations are kind of something they didn't do so interesting to know what i might need!
@mrabuilders6723 The reinforcing is IMO incorect and inadequate, shuttering is poor and badly constructed and braced. Site is generally cluttered a particular pet hate of mine.
In Australia, we put two layers of trench mesh reinforcing into the trenches, top and bottom. It consists of quite thick rebar. Similarly, we would put quite thick rebar into the underpinning wall. Different countries, different standards!

As long as the 6" drain goes in to a manhole it can then go back to 4"..... now I've never done drainage for a long time the regs could have changed could be worth checking out
Your best option is to set up a square merchants account. First off, you can use it for your business to take payments from customers via card either via a website link, or on the go on your phone, but secondly you could use it to set up a donations page and square will only take around 1.9% of the payment. The only problem was the wide range of options. I recommend buying 4D with receiver & tripod as you will find uses for it not considered before.
I see you’ve mentioned dry packing in another comment but my structural engineer was fine with building what’s known as a “birds mouth” at the top of my shuttering. If you research the technique it’s very effective and a good time saver compared to what it looks like it took you. Well done mate. Keep up the great videos.
Cheers mate, appreciate that. It may have been more time efficient to do it that way! It was hard work I've got to be honest! Weirdly I quite enjoyed it! Thank you for watching and commenting pal, really appreciate it. All the best.
Letter box shutter is good idea, but concrete will still shrink, leave 50mm low and fill with non-shrink grout (5 star) just a thought, do you vibrate your concrete to remove trapped air, for every 1% trapped air = 5% reduction in strength 😉

During casting of existing foundations. As you do in the video by making a formwork up to 100 mm lower than the underside edge of the existing foundation. On the upper edge of the formwork, mount formwork 45 ° in relation to vertical formwork, closed at the sides with triangular formwork. The upper edge of the sloping formwork must be 100 mm higher than the lower edge of the existing foundation. The constructed funnel makes it possible to fill the last piece of the formwork and contact is formed between the new concrete and the existing foundation. The inclined casting is peeled off. Exciting to follow the basement project. The formwork incl tage sloping formwork can be made at the same time, so all the concrete kan be done at the same time.
That's called a letter box no need to dry pack no mesh in footing he says the concrete is gone off only on top still cureing for at least 28 days before you build other than that he's ok
Congratulations gentlemen : excellent work. My lord you, rather your customer, have been very fortunate with the ground. With this winter it may have been a swamp, bog unworkable nightmare.
It's quite unbelievable, mate. It could have been completely different like you say. Thank you, steadfast, hope you're well and having a great evening. Take care.
Fascinating job. Looking at the rebar detail drawing for the underpinning, you're supposed to have bars bent 90 degrees tying the horizontal to the vertical. Otherwise you have next to no bending resistance at the base. Did you put those in? I couldn't see any in the video.
Brilliant as always! Some graft going into this. The cost below ground must be through the roof if you had one. Can’t wait to see the bay being dropped although scary to watch. Roll on next Sunday!!

Great content Adam. Love seeing a job done properly. I run my own plumbing & heating business in Solihull. Would love to work with you guys on a project 👊
Probably too late now, but when you set out the new corner of the extension with laser, how do you know that you were in line with the edge of the existing house? I can see you formed a right angle meeting the house and the blockwork, but it could be running in or out and not be sitting on the true corner. I enjoyed the video. Great work
If the laser is giving out a perfect 90⁰ angle then lining it up with both walls perfectly can only mean that the corner is in the right place. Hopefully that makes sense.
A raised chute section on the shuttering would have helped with the filling of the concrete and allowed it to fill nearer to the level of the existing footing.
@@Mr_A_Builders I understand about the packing, the good thing about the chute is you can see what level you are filling to and control the amount of concrete being poured, I think you could have filled abit more than you did and had less work on the dry packing. As always there's more than one way to do a job, if your way works for you, crack on.
As an ex-grafter, it's nice to see others hard at work. Although I do miss the physical exertion, as my belly is starting to stick out more than it should! New to the channel and enjoying the build. You need more footage of the cats, though! 😂

@mrabuilders6723 what ratio mix did you use? And can I ask why you did not use a volumetric for the concrete? My underpinning is happening now and is a similar project to this one.
Excellent work as usual Adam and good to see Rich and Mick. Was it a sphincter tightening moment when you uncovered the stepped footing or was it expected to a certain extent? I hope the weather holds for you for a bit, it’s been very wet just further south of you. Looking forward to seeing the walls go up. Have a good week! 👍🏼
Thank you Simon, hope you're keeping well. I expected a stepped footing but went found what it was like on the other side, coupled with the fact that the house has a basement, I expected it to have at least some consistency. Even the make of concrete differs across the footing, and also differences in depths...just a tad strange that's all. The only sphincter tightening moments I get from jobs these days is when I put the invoice in!!! Haha! Cheers once again mate, have a great week too.
@@Mr_A_Builders You're the expert so I'm not arguing with you. It's just far thinner than the re-bar Americans use when they pour concrete, their stuff looks like it would cope under tension.
Iirc, some outfits like JustGiving have the option to include Gift Aid - a tax rebate towards the charity for the tax paid on the donation amount, so a basic rate taxpayer (say 20%) gives a tenner, the charity receives £12. Great video
The comment might be a bit late, but UA-cam have a 'Giving fundraiser' option where UA-cam don't take their cut. You might be able to use this (and it get highlighted on the video links)
That steel mesh is doing nothing you should use 1000 mm long 20mm dowels into the surrounding earth, the correct way to underpin is to to excavate in sections as you have done then pour mass concrete to within 75mm of the existing foundation which should be cleaned off when the concrete has cured , fill the space with non shrink grout , the alternative is to pour a concrete footing and use short Acro jacks under the existing foundation and concrete them insitu.
I'm baffled. Why would anyone expect that foundation on sloped ground to be the same level as the lowest point? Of course you'd expect to find exactly what you found - a stepped foundation.
I expected a stepped footing but went found what it was like on the other side, coupled with the fact that the house has a basement, I expected it to have at least some consistency. Even the make of concrete differs across the footing, and also differences in depths...just a tad strange that's all.
@@Mr_A_Builders i think thats going to be your best option, its usually the go to platform that people use when they want to donate money to a cause. i have seen a few popular UA-camrs using it to donate to homeless people and other things like that.
Nominate the charity of your choice, tell everyone the charities web site, then folk can go there and donate directly. The problem with the utter vast majority of charities, very little of the money gets through. It's swallowed up in wages, fees, costs, running vans etc..
Exactly, Me, which is why we don't want to go down the whole charity route which is why we've chosen to personally buy presents for the kids at Birmingham Children's Hospital at Christmas, that way in no way can a single penny go to anyone or thing other than the kids.
If you contact you tube and tell them it’s a charity raising money they will kn ock there cut off many Chanel’s I subscribe too do this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You have not underpinned as per engineers drawing, nothing like it! Show the construction Key notes. You are lucky that lot isn't on the floor. Oh and not that it matters that clay pipe is broken behind the socket, so you probably broke it when digging out. I have never heard so much b...sh...😅
Hello Paul, good to have your beaming smile and radiant, infectious positivity back again. You're totally correct of course, we've dug more out than specified and put in way more concrete. Well spotted. If there's anything we've done wrong however which will lead to the house falling down please be sure to put it in the comments. Just remember that I said "wrong", if we've done it differently than you would then no one really cares. As for the pipe, I really don't think we did but I can't swear to the almighty that we didn't. It'll be extremely strange to do all that digging around the pipe and the only damage is a bit of mortar to fly out of a joint without so much as the glaze of pipe to be slightly flaked off, but who knows?! I just mentioned it as a visual example of what could be causing damage to areas of peoples homes. But again, who cares? That pipe doesn't exist anymore, bit like your beaming smile and radiant, infectious positivity. Thank you for watching, Paul. Hope you're well and having a great night. Take care.
Yes mate that makes perfect sense, thank you. Cheers Mee, hope you're well.
Wrong method. He has done it wrong as well.

I did just that, Bob...I guessed! Haha! Every job involves a hefty roll of the dice, I tend to try my best and hope! Cheers mate!
How does revolut work Adam
Top job lads.
that ree bar looks a bit to thin
It looks like the concrete has simply crept down the hill when it was being poured no?
But the ground missing underneath is a bit more worrying 😕
I've no idea why it's like the way that it is. It's not missing anymore so there's nothing to worry about! Have a good night, mate.
Great as ever guys 🤔👏😎
Cheers Neil! Hope you're well mate.
Iirc, some outfits like JustGiving have the option to include Gift Aid - a tax rebate towards the charity for the tax paid on the donation amount, so a basic rate taxpayer (say 20%) gives a tenner, the charity receives £12. Great video
Thank you, Sarah. Appreciate that.
no dry packing ?????????????????
Hello Martin, hope you're well. What do you mean please, pal?
The comment might be a bit late, but UA-cam have a 'Giving fundraiser' option where UA-cam don't take their cut. You might be able to use this (and it get highlighted on the video links)
Evening guys another great video loving this job great content "IT PULLED IN NICE "😂
Haha! Cheers, Rob. Hope you're having a good evening, mate.
@mrabuilders6723 good thank you 👍🏻
That steel mesh is doing nothing you should use 1000 mm long 20mm dowels into the surrounding earth, the correct way to underpin is to to excavate in sections as you have done then pour mass concrete to within 75mm of the existing foundation which should be cleaned off when the concrete has cured , fill the space with non shrink grout , the alternative is to pour a concrete footing and use short Acro jacks under the existing foundation and concrete them insitu.
Rich doing his best for Anglo-Asian relations literally made me laugh out loud, absolute peak British problems
Haha! Isn't it just! Cheers man.
Isn’t that what they do when they dig out a basement when the head height is lacking, except in this case you don’t have the first floor overhead!
Yes mate, that's it in a nutshell!
CRACKING EPISODE
Cheers mate! Hope you're well.
I love the open air kitchen. Very Mediterranean for the black country. 😂
Haha! There's nothing wrong with an alfresco espresso and a croissant at elevenses! Cheers ross, thank you for watching. Take care.
The footing looks like a knob holding a gun. I think that was the joke on you from the original builders. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Haha! I can't understand that now!
😂funny that!
I will x
nice
Cheers man.
Bostin ar kid. 👍
Cheers Bob!
I'm baffled. Why would anyone expect that foundation on sloped ground to be the same level as the lowest point? Of course you'd expect to find exactly what you found - a stepped foundation.
Surely you meant to say stepped and the same thickness…..
I expected a stepped footing but went found what it was like on the other side, coupled with the fact that the house has a basement, I expected it to have at least some consistency. Even the make of concrete differs across the footing, and also differences in depths...just a tad strange that's all.
Can you do something with sound, your video are too quiet .
I don't think I can get them any louder mate.
@@Mr_A_Builders I see you got the mic attached - which is great. Can you amplify the sound in some software? unless the mic is not good enough.
PayPal friends and family I think would be free not 100% sure tho
I'll look into that, George. Thank you mate.
It's an interesting build but less yam yam and more videos of the work would be good
Sorry Gray, but this is the way we like to do our videos.
@mrabuilders6723 it's all good mate fair play for taking a job on like that
@graycox64 nice one mate. Appreciate that.
set up a GoFundMe
Is that the answer, do you think mate?
@@Mr_A_Builders i think thats going to be your best option, its usually the go to platform that people use when they want to donate money to a cause. i have seen a few popular UA-camrs using it to donate to homeless people and other things like that.
@@Mr_A_Builders yes i would say so, ive seen a bunch of content creators using that platform to raise money for people.
@@Mr_A_Builders absolutely, this is what other content creators do
@@Mr_A_Builders yes mate i think its your best bet.
Christ you know how to talk, watched this at 2x speed and it was still a drag
You're right mate, I do. Being doing it for as long as I can remember. A view is a view mate and yours is greatly received. Have a great evening.
Ooh first time I ever got the first comment I think 🤣
Haha! Congratulations, you win this week! Hope you're well mate.
FFS please improve your sound quality the volume is too low even when I set my chromebook to full I can't hear you!
I'll try my best mate. Sorry.
If you contact you tube and tell them it’s a charity raising money they will kn ock there cut off many Chanel’s I subscribe too do this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really??? I did not know this! I'll try that straight away! Thank you!
gofundme
Cheers mate.
Go fund me don't take anything to my knowledge
Thank you, Becca. I'll have a look into that. Hope you're well.
@@Mr_A_Buildersgot the 2 mixed up its go fund me
You have not underpinned as per engineers drawing, nothing like it!
Take care.
@@Mr_A_Builders 😆😆😆
Well said.
Yeah agree with the guy who said PayPal.
Cheers lee, I'll look into that mate. Nice one.
