Another great video from you. I built this one last year. A real pleasure, my only complaint were its decals, too hard to handle, but not impossible. A great kit, simple but very nice. A real gem.
Thank you for the tips about the Tamiya's Spitfire as well. I have that same model kit as well, waiting to be assembled as well. Only difference will be some other decals as well. If you are interested, you can see on my channel the decals of the Yugoslav Spitfires as well, that I have mentioned in some of my update videos. Keep up the work. You have done amazing job as well there.
Hi Jon. Did you cut off the pairs of reinforcement strakes molded into the upper wings? I am guessing that maybe Tamiya based their kit design on a modern restoration that had the strakes added as a safety requirement? I have the Tamiya Mk.Vb (non-trop #89730-3600 with ICM figures) I am about to kick off as a 453 Squadron RAAF aircraft. From my photo references, the strakes have to go. Are they molded into the upper wings on this kit as well?
You made a great job of this. I built the airfix 1:48 of this in tropical colors. I'm no expert but I took ages to build it and made a reasonable job of it. Not as good as yours.
This is a kit that I would really like to have built - however, that wing root fillet is just so wrong that it would drive me to distraction once built and sitting on a shelf..
No doubt this kit has a few shape issues. I fixed the prop spinner (too skinny and pointy) and the curvy dorsal spine behind the cockpit. The wing root is not fixable, as you mentioned, and can be a deal breaker for some. The Eduard kits really get the Spitfire shape right, and their surface detail is amazing. They can be expensive, and they have about 3-4 times the parts, so they're not a quick build. But they are the most accurate option. I'm aware of the Airfix kit, but it doesn't compare with the Eduard Spitfire. Cheers!
@@jonsmodelkitreview4624 Yes it's such a shame as sometimes you just need to have a snap together experience and enjoy concentrating on painting and weathering. In the UK, the Tamiya kit can be had for less that £20, the Eduard W/E Edition is about the same price but not sure it includes a Trop version (ProfiPack Vc Trop is £30). The Airfix Vb is around £22. So not much to choose price wise
@@FinsburyPhil The Airfix kit has better shape and decals (I used the Airfix decals on this Tamiya build). But the fit isn't as good, especially in the highly visible nose area. Decisions, decisions...

Thank you! I've had so much trouble with Tamiya decals. It's why this build got the Airfix decals! Cheers

@@jonsmodelkitreview4624 You're welcome.
Nice. Been looking for a video on this kit. Good content
Thank you!

Good question, John. I think I had to cut the strakes off of this one. It wasn't a big deal to do. Cheers!

Wish you had filmed the build...
I may attempt that in the future. In my more recent videos, I'm trying to show more of the instructions, areas to watch out for, etc.

@@jonsmodelkitreview4624 How many hours cumulatively has the modelling community spent on filling Spitfire noses?!!
