I enjoy watching scale model aircraft videos. This color scheme with the unique weathering, really added amazing character and depth to the spitfire. Beautiful work!!! New subscriber!
Awesome build with a different paint scheme. What I like about your videos is you’re always honest about your mistakes & flubs, & you talk to your audience intelligently. Keep up the great work!
As always, I love seeing the attention to detail you put into your models (even the details you know aren't easily seen). With regards to the weathering, it's all down to the models. The older the scheme you are going for the more weathering you'll have. I always look forward to getting notifications of new videos, even if I can't get to watch them on day of release.
Very nice paintwork, love to see all the shading and the idea of having the blue chipped through is very cool looking. The larger more rectangular radiator is the liquid coolant radiator. The more circular one is the oil cooler.
This was an inspirational build, thank you for sharing this beautiful piece. The Merlin at the end, and the flybys were the cherry on top! I'm actually building Revells 1/32nd scale Mk XIc right now so I will try to use some of your techniques in that.
Welcome back from your break Luke, hope your time at RIAT was good, with a bit of luck I will be getting tickets for next year. Fab looking Spitfire and I love the worn down to its original camo!
On your weathering I like it. I really feel many often over do it sometimes, yours, seems to be well balanced. I do like how you did the paint scheme as well worn.
Thank you very much! Glad to hear that you enjoy the weathering, I’ve been trying to find the mid ground between the two extremes and I’m somewhat happy at where I have ended up👌🏻☺️
Excellent, thanks. I enjoyed that. Well done on doing something different with a Spitfire. 👏🏻 FWIW the vallejo model air Mediterranean RAF colours set are very accurate colours to my eye but obvs colour is very subjective. It's a useful set to have around.
Thank you very much! For me personally, I have never managed to get on with the Vallejo paints all that well. However, a paint set might not be a bad idea!😁
Looks awesome, i have never seen someone do weathering like that before but it looks great, it adds so much interest too the build! Tempted to get anouther spitfire now, even though i already have 2 😂. All you vids and planes are great man ❤.
I've only recently gotten into model building with Gunpla and I find these videos lovely. I'm not the sort to build regular models, what with painting and gluing. So it's interesting to watch someone else put one together.
Hello mr. Mach!ohhh she is such a beauty with her swift, swung lines.you definatly brought that Baby to life!Thank you 4sharing.with best regards and sticky greetings your modellmate.christian
@@machmodels How about a really heavily weathered Beaufighter?! I've seen a brief glimpse of a really lovely one that you've done, but there are some great reference photos of ones that look like incredibly beaten up.
Excellent work as always. Love this scheme. One small point... The crowbar on the cockpit door. These were NEVER painted red during WW2. It was a post WW2 thing - a very common mstake by a lot of modellers.
Hi Luke, The end result really works and I for like it a lot. Some comments I pulled the Instructions up just to see what other schemes were available, (I also like C, D) noticed that the outline of original scheme was still visible under the blue, but your version just works better IMO, 2.I recently purchased some of Mr Hobby panel liner and mine didn't have a brush with it, assuming that's how they come, a used clean Tamiya extra thin brush slots straight on to the lid. Cheers
Thank you very much! I was looking at the schemes as well and I think there was just so much potential that it would’ve been rude not to show more of that underlying camo. Yup! The Mr Weathing Colour doesn’t come with a brush (for some reason) so I just use a spare brush that I have lying around, but, that is a good idea!😁
The first batches of Spitfire Vbs sent to Malta were left in there brand new desert camouflage. Malta being a small island, and the intensity of the air battle meant the Spitfires were airborne most of the time. The desert camo showed up like a sore thumb over the deep blue Mediterranean from above. So the next batches of Spitfires were crudely painted in an improvised Mediterranean camouflage. Now from above they were much harder to spot by the enemy aircraft as they were climbing out over the sea to intercept. As you say Wasp, an American carrier was used to help, so maybe some paint may have been slapped on from US navy wildcats. Who knows. I assume all the stencilling detail would have been over painted. Aircraft still surviving on the ground also had the sand part of the camouflage crudely painted blue, so there's some Mediterranean blue and dark brown examples. The Malta campaign is fascinating if you want to create a unique looking Spit. Nice work.
I read that the Malta blue Spits were overpainted with any blue paints they had at the time....I always loved George Buerlings Malta Spit T-D (BR130) because of the mishmash of replacement rudder and engine cowls...By the way your weathering looks great...I'm a big fan of weathering models...
Beautiful build, Luke. I love watching you work. Do you have problems with shaking hands or tremors? If so, how do you compensate for them? Glad you had a good holiday. Cheers!
Thank you very much! For me, not so much. If I do have a spell of getting a bit shaky I’ll just get up and leave for a bit and stretch out my hands before going back to it. If that doesn’t work… just get absolutely hammered on beer!🤣😁
Your build is very nice. Eduard made a molding error with all their Mark I to Mark V Spitfire fuselages. They acknowledge this and provide a fix in the instructions - to fill the panel line on the forward fuselage halves. Unfortunately this procedure appears to be in most UA-cam modelling content creators' blind spots as very few builds I see on UA-cam follow the filling instruction. There is no separate panel immediately behind the spinner at the top of the fuselage - the top of the cowling is a single panel. Reference photos of Mark V noses (plenty available using Google or other searches) will confirm this. I only mention this as it's an oft repeated error and others may wish to build the most accurate scale model airframe that this excellent kit can provide.
Thank you for all of that great information! Hopefully it’ll help out future projects for all of us, and hopefully make people not follow my slightly bad guide!🤣👌🏻
Looks good, the pre shading in the blue came out well. Have you considered peeling the carrier film of Eduard's decals? It can be done easily with the assistance of enamel thinner. To answer your first question I use MRP-111 RAF Interior Grey Green for raf cockpits. Ppl who nerd out about those colors more than me say it's the most accurate version. Since you like mr color you should try MRP. It comes pre thinned and sprays beautifully, it feels like cheating tbh. Keep up the good work, look forward to seeing your next project!
Thank you! Hmmm I’ll have to have a think about peeling, always feels so unnatural to me! I’ll look into it. Thank you for the colour recommendation! I’ll definitely have a look into them👌🏻😁
Super interesting paint scheme. Would a Mk.Vb work for a Malta based Spitfire? Now I want to build one after watching you and I have a Mk.Vb sitting around.
It looks good but I'm.not sold on how much paint is missing in one area usually it would be where the wing guns and ammo goes and maybe the area where the pilot climbs in. Bursting that. Love the blue.
Thank you, I very much appreciate that. I think I have classed this more as an artistic way to show the story behind this airframe, and I do acknowledge that this airframe never got anywhere near this battered. Nonetheless thank you very much for the comment, I hope this gives a bit of clarity to what I was going for👌🏻😁
Wow, another excellent build. I just love this channel. It helps me upgrade my modeling skills. I have just one question, I'm going to build Eduard's mk.ix in jonnie Johnsons aircraft. I'm guessing this aircraft being a commanders aircraft would not have much weathering . Do you agree?
Have you noticed your VMS varnish gunks up your airbrush? Even spraying it using a .5 needle it gunks my airbrush up bad. Any suggestions? Keep up the great work
Obviously great work from you, as always! This Spitfire really does have an interesting scheme, and something different than the regular RAF tropical camo or the other RAF camo. By the way, do you think the Mr colour paints would require any training if I’ve used Ammo before, as the Mr Colour paints seem to have some specific colours I can’t find from Ammo.
Thank you! If you are feeling really in the dark about the mr hobby paints, chuck me and email and I’ll walk you through them down at hannants. I’ll bring my airbrush and all so you can really get used to them👌🏻😁
