I decided to give my patrons a 2nd pick for a video topic this month and they wanted me to rank the horror franchises I thought were the worst overall. Here are the Top 10 franchises that were the hardest to get through and, in my opinion, have the worst overall quality.

Maybe if Jeepers Creepers was directed by perhaps James Wan, Guilermo Del Toro, or Wes Craven, it would have been more talked about than it really is. Wes Craven I think could have made the Creeper even more of an iconic horror monster and given fans the story of Trish and the dad teaming up together to find out about the origins of the Creeper and figuring out how to kill him once and for all. It’s unfortunate about the icky infamy that surrounds the actual director, because the Creeper had so much potential to become an icon. Justin Long, Gina Phillips, Ray Wise and Jonathan Breck are pretty much still the reasons to even watch the first three movies. Jeepers Creepers Reborn also had so much potential to be better than Jeepers Creepers 3, especially since Victor Salva wasn’t gonna be involved with the making of the movie. And yet, turned out to be worse than Jeepers Creepers 3.

    • @davidcurry332
      @davidcurry332 5 місяців тому +8

Yep I agree bro I think I think you’re more Del Toro or Wes Craven wanted an a lot better job I don’t know I think even Sean Cunningham could’ve took a swing at the creeper made it better. I’m sorry the first jeepers creepers is the only one I like Victor Salva he looks like he’s a creep anyway but I think that’s the only movie I’ve ever seen from but no I think I would’ve like to see you I think even Sam Raimi could’ve took a stab at jeepers creepers. I would’ve been good they could’ve had ash crossover with the creeper because he kind a looks like a dead out. Honestly, I think there’s so many other directors beside Wes Craven, and even I think even yeah there’s so many other directors that are around beside Wes Craven they could’ve done a good job. Even Carpenter could’ve took a good shot at the creeper other than that there’s so many other people but no Sam Raimi would be a good choice for two he’s got the eye for that kind of humor.

Expendables and Fast and Furious for sure. E3 and E4 were terrible and Fast and Furious has failed for X and 9, along with the 4th and 6th entries being forgettable as The Rock began to eclipse Diesel. Most people only saw F7 and F8 because of Walker, and F5 was lightning in a bottle because of Diesel breathing new life and adopting a Latin angle instead of African American.

I don't hate on that movie because it was quickly slapped together just to keep the rights to IP as remake was stuck in development hell for ages and last official Hellraiser movie came out in 2005. Think you must make one movie every couple of years otherwise you lose the right and you have to renew license to IP again, so it was cheaper to just slap some $2-3 millions direct-to-video sequel.

I'd personally add Sleepaway Camp to this list. While the first film is a fun schlock-fest with a legitimately good twist ending, the sequels are just plaint obnoxious. The first movie worked because despite being really poorly-made all around, you can tell there was an earnest effort behind it which adds a lot of unintentional humor. The sequels are all bad on purpose, which rarely translates as enjoyably in my opinion.

The JAWS franchise has a special place in my heart even if it doesn't compare in the slightest to the original masterpiece. It was my first horror movie franchise growing up and even if it does get worse with each film, it has a lot of merit to it. It's also a rare franchise where each installment, good or bad, keeps that nostalgic and gorgeous atmosphere feel to it from the original to the end so it is still respectable in that regard. With that being said, I will say that even though JAWS is my favorite horror movie, it's franchise is not my favorite horror movie franchise (that's going to like Final Destination I think)

It is over the top but doesn't cross into being wacky which makes a perfect blend. It's also worthy to note that Final Destinations 1, 2, and 5 specifically are the movies that carry the actual story of the franchise and adds story so it isn't just gratuitous for fun unlike what so many people think (They also happen to be my top three favs but FD3 is still awesome too). Funny you should mention Spanish because I like learning new languages, too! I particularly like Spanish myself. I used to take a couple Spanish classes in middle and high schools but I'm not really fluent in Spanish. I've learned a little more Spanish from using my Google Nest Mini, but not a whole lot more. I've heard that Babbel is good for learning another language, so I'll give it a try sometime! Meanwhile, let's see if you can guess what this Spanish phrase means in English: "¡Confinamiento Solitario en la Cárcel Estado!" How about this one? "¡Biblioteca Silenciosa!" Or lastly, this one: "¡Amanecer de los Muertos!" I know how to say some dirty things in Spanish, too, but I won't do that here! Please mention me in a future video if you don't mind! I'm curious as to if you know what those Spanish phrases above mean in English! I do! I use them a lot when I mess around with my Google Nest Mini personal assistant! Hint: the last one is the name of a great movie when it's translated to English!

They are both bone chilling, terrifying, and really worth all praise and accolades from audiences and fans of both films. Critters, Tremors, and Leprechaun definitely belong in the list among the worst horror franchises aside from The Exorcist and The Omen (I really love the original of both but I’m not a fan of the sequels to both franchises. Sleepaway Camp is a guilty pleasure of mine but the sequels are really not worth watching in my honest opinion. Got some food for thought for ya Cody.
My least favorite horror franchise is the Ring.
You're probably wondering how. To summarize:
    •There are actually 13 films.
•The series has as many attempts to reboot as Texas Chainsaw Massacre, except the series flip-flops between timelines. So the 4th movie might be from timeline A, the 5th from timeline B, the 6th is back to timeline A, the 7th is timeline C.
•Some of these movies commit absolute cardinal sins when it comes to horror movie sequels and bad decisions.
•Worst case of sequelitis ever since the timelines steal ideas from each other.
The Ring is a sleeping giant when it comes to bad franchises.

I'll be honest no movie has screwed me up for life as much as Jaws has. I watched the first one when I was little, and the sequels as I was growing up. I'm almost 40, I'm a great swimmer, but I still get the heebie-jeebies swimming in any kind of deep water. Even in like a 10 foot deep pool, I get this unnerving feeling of danger. Oceans and deep lakes is another story...I can't shake that unnerving fear of the dark depths below, and what might come out of there. I actually got to experience that feeling directly when I swam with Dolphins. Even after meeting them at first and knowing they're dolphins, being out in the deep with them, and watching this large shadow rise out of the dark depths, and come straight at you at speed...oof...Though overall thay was a ton of fun, the lizard part of your brain is sorta screaming at you to GTFO of there.

As someone who is a huge fan of Werewolf movies I have a mixed feeling about The Howling franchise which has 8 films in it 7 main ones, a reboot, with a 9th film on the way that being a modern-day remake of the first film that's being directed by Andy Muschietti the director of Mama and the IT films that is dropping on Netflix and it also has a upcoming comic book series in the works titled The Howling: Revenge of the Werewolf Queen that's supposed to pick up right after the 1st film and ignore films 2 through 7.
Now my ranking of these films are The Howling the one that started it all is a all-time horror classic a must watch if you're into werewolf films, The Howling 2: Your Sister is a Werewolf is decent not as good as the first film but still enjoyable, 4: The Original Nightmare, 5: The Rebirth, 6: The Freaks, the 7th film New Moon Rising, and the reboot The Howling Reborn aren't bad films but not as good as the first two they're meh to me but the 3rd film is a trainwreck from start to finish I only watch that film when I want to binge watch the entire series other then that I avoid The Howling 3 at any cost.

Jeepers Creepers 2 is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. I love having Ray Wise as a badass good guy, and, being a fan of "Kickin' It" and having principal Eric Nenninger as the main villain is such a fun part. Tho I too Don't like how 1 of the girls attacked Ellen Burstyn's character & made her go Blind, I agree it was disrespectful, aside from that, I think the movie was well directed & acted & an Interesting New take on trying to Exercise an Evil Demon from 2 young girls, as I didn't mind that a few different religious or spiritual leaders were involved.

I agree with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and it dose hurt because it’s my top favourite horror films, and that being the original but yeah… It’s like they seem to not understand what makes the original so iconic and why it’s actually a very important film in movie making.
Sure I do like the second movie as a typical 80s dark comedy, such as the Friday the 13th movies and I do enjoy the gore and I love that Jim Siedow returned and you have the dead corpse of Nubbins (a.k.a The Hitchhiker) and you Dennis Hopper who plays Franklins brother.
So that film is a full on sequel but entirely different tone which I can see why separates it from the first original film. And I agree with the remakes in 2003, probably one of the best remakes in horror.
And it dose suck with 2013 which hurts a lot more because you had Gunner Hanson as a cameo and the prologue was pretty solid even though it’s flawed.
I think the only film that I can’t stand in the TCM franchise, is Leatherface which is supposed to be a prequel and the god awful Netflix film. Just that film can go f**k itself. Absolutely hate that film and it has so much disrespect to the original as well, especially as the character Sally returned for revenge which in all honestly, doesn’t make any sense at all. And that Leathface is now Jason Voorhees? No, mate lol
But yeah good list. Jaws, Exorcist, Hellrasier, etc
These films are some of the best films in horror movie making and they didn’t really need a franchise, at all. Just cash grabs I think. It’s the same with Halloween as well. The never ending morph of the mask! Lol
And Friday the 13th but that gets a pass because it gets funnier and creative until 7 that is when they started to do the cutting of the kills.. yeah.

    • @politefan8141
      @politefan8141 4 місяці тому

I find all the TCM films entertaining except for parts 3 and the Next Generation which came out in a period when slasher films were becoming watered down. The third one was especially dull. The 3D and Netflix films were clearly cash grabs, but they had tons of gore and some cool chase scenes. I think part 2 and the Beginning get an unnecessarily bad rep.
Normally, a franchise being rebooted so often is a sign that the creative teams keep running out of ideas. However, you could make the case that series that attempt continuity like the Halloween series is even more frustrating due to how convoluted it is. With TCM, you can pick nearly any of those films off the shelf and have a good time with them.

It’s almost like you could have titled Exorcist 3 “Legion” and made only one Exorcist film.

7:35 The novelisation of 4 is even stupider since it says a witch doctor who hated the Brody's sent the shark after them. By that film you wonder why everyone hasn't moved away from Amity.

I think "The Grudge" movies are terrible, and "The Human Centipede" ones.

    1. The Amityville Horror (aside from a few, this is a rough franchise to get through)
    2. Children of the Corn (a few movies I enjoy but how is it so hard to do this right)
    3. Hellraiser (aside from 1-4 and the 2022 film, this is a franchise that misuses it's title killer)
    4. Paranormal Activity (after the fourth film, they started sucking)
    5. Jaws
    6. Slumber Party Massacre

Hurts seeing TCM on here but that leather & chainsaw can only carry so much
Children of the Corn the worst movies of all time (why can’t they just get 5-6 devious kids to kill 3-4 cool people ?!?!?!) …

Yessss my dude. The 2003 Texas chainsaw is my favorite of all of them. Alot of "gate keepers" hate ok early 2000s horror but some of my favorites are in that timeframe

I'd argue the Exorcist is one of the only franchises that has a negative number of good sequels. I know how much you love 3 and I'm a big fan too, but it seems to be guilty by association.

    Honourable mentions
    Amityville
    The howling
I thought you might go with Children of the corn but i would argue that the first 3 are watchable.....trash but watchable.

They’re two I mentioned too. I’m shocked he never included Amityville. There’s so many of them and most are worse than Children Of The Corn movies

Great list did you consider the tremor franchise in this?. Disagree about Jaws 2 , it still holds up in my opinion. the other 2 are absolute crud though

I have to point out, Critters was in works before Gremlins. Everyone assumes it was a rip off, but it wasn't it just happened to come out after. I do agree after the first 2 it went downhill fast.

as soon as i saw the notification i knew Hellraiser would be on it 😂 there's just so much shit they threw at the wall and there's legit only 2/3 great movies and 3 dumb fun ones. and it's sad how much they fumbled the bag with Pinhead because he's BY FAR the most under-utilized horror villain. glad the remake at least brought back the threat of the cenobites and i wouldn't mind seeing a sequel

Still sitting on my Jaws The Revenge island alone...eating cookies...GUILTY AS FUCK LOL I think it honestly has to do with the fact that it was the first I saw and I saw it as a child. Those visuals stuck with me. As an adult, I can see its ridiculousness, but GOD I love it.
Jeepers Creepers is STILL one of my favorite horror movies of the 2000s. Its one of my favorite creature movies. Reborn...what they did to that movie was a travesty.
I think my worst would be:
    Children of the Corn
    Amityville Horror
    Puppet Master
    Wrong Turn
    Hellraiser
    Exorcist
    Texas Chainsaw Massacre
    Leprechaun
Alien (Save for 1 and 2)
    Pet Semetary

As a giant fan of the first two Jeepers Creepers, i choose to ignore 3 and 4. They need to retcon everything. Bring on a full cast that can stick around 3-4 movies and create a coherent and contiuous story. And finally not wait X amount of years between each iteration. Those are just some basic suggestions. I know Hollyweird ignores conistent storytelling and actual art for more reboots and prequels etc.

Two franchises (kinda one considering the crossover), that in the future I'd expect to be up here are Anaconda and Lake Placid. At least for some of the ones already on this list, the first or first two installments are considered actually good then drop off hard. Anaconda and Lake Placid are _fine_ for their first movies, then just become basic direct-to-tv or DVD garbage from the Syfy channel with the exception of Anaconda 2.

The one thing that really shocks me about Children of the Corn franchise is how they always get strong "B" actors to be in there films and do nothing with them. How do you get Michael Ironside, the leader of Rasczak Roughnecks, and not use him in your crappy horror movie (7th film in)? The man can do horror. He was in Scanners for crying out loud.

I'm glad to see that NONE of the best horror franchises are put in here by Cody: Saw, Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Child's Play and Conjuring. :)
