Thanks for the support guys!
I really appreciate your doing this. I've only seen a handful of movies on this list, so it's extremely helpful when people post such a breakdown to let me know which segments to watch. Keep up the altruistic work!
Thank you so much! 🌠
@@colinbaldwin313Thank you so much! I do this all the time and it never really pays off, but I find it kind of fun, and I guess I could say that you’re welcome.
@@moonwalker5557your welcome!
@@cocoplayz7887 I'n really grateful that you've done this! It makes viewing the video 10 times more easier and fun. There are a good amount of movies I haven't seen so if I had to spend time looking for all the ones that I did see, It would kinda be a drag... So your efforts are appreciated incredibly much man :)
Hey man, so sorry to hear about your loss. We're here to support you in your time of mourning, hopefully the facial hair comes back soon.
Love these end of year rankings!
I found 2023 to be a pretty weak year for horror. Especially compared to the surprises of 2022. Here’s hoping this year is stronger.
True, I also found 2023 was very weak for horror, at least compared to 2022
Movies in general were weaker this year.
@@heatheraggus7501Very true. Especially the big budget blockbuster types.
love these end of year rankings. These are my favorite videos of the year that you make. Thanks for the dedication and time you put in this channel. My favorite reviewer on UA-cam along with Sean Chandler.
We all knew what last place was going to be, and well deserved.
Yeah, some friends and I went to see it thinking it would be hilarious, it was in fact just straight terrible
Must miss.
@@Luc7727.I don't understand films with a ridiculous concept where it's taken completely seriously. Blows my mind.
100%. I met one of the girls who acts in this at a Nottingham Ice Nine Kills concert & she was such a horrible person who asked if we knew who she was & tried pushing people out her way. The ego was unwarranted for such a mess of a movie - she was the one hogtied on the road.
Now we have a Mickey Mouse horror happening too apparently...
@@kayleighcolville3885Which actress was it?
One horror film you missed, "Hell house Llc orgins: Carmichael manor", genuinely creepy and unsettling. Mainly due to the way its filmed. I was surprised how terrifying the scares really turned out to be.
Agree that 2023 was a weak horror year, but this movie genuinely made me afraid to look down my long hallway. I’d recommend, it was a fun and creepy watch!
I thought that was the worst hell house but to each their own
Yeah, that series has never been it for me, but I see the potential
Saw X is safely my favorite. It has the solid traps, interesting lore, and violence, I want from a Saw experience, but with so much depth and emotion with John Kramer/Jigsaw as the lead. One of my Top 10 Favorites of 2023.
I was so pleasantly surprised by Saw X! Especially after the last release...
These hour plus long lists will never get old
It is crazy the difference in people's movie opinions. My #1 movie of the year was Beau Is Afraid. The wildest movie experience I've ever had in theaters. It blew me away but totally understand why people hate it. That's what makes films great. Great job, Cody! The best of UA-cam movie reviewers.
Masterpiece
It one of my favorite of the year
It’s an unbelievably creative and smart movie. Soo much to take from it. 32 is absolutely ridiculous.
Great movie. In my head it came out 2022 👀😂
Yeah. I also dislike Megan and Cobweb. They need to be below 30 in this list.
Opinions do really vary.
Looking forward to this video all year! Thanks Cody!!
Awesome vid Cody! Always look forward to this ranking in particular😁
Happy New Year Cody!!! Thanks for the awesome material you provide!!!
Saw X is my favorite horror movie of the year 2023 that I still got Billy the puppet as my avatar. I like how they gave us perspective and more in dept of John Kramer's personality and his health journey, and his mentality. And it also explains why he's the way that he is as a villain without making him too sympathetic.
Sorry for your beard loss Cody... i did something similar a few months ago, stay strong
not hating the last voyage when you hate things that aren't practical is wild. They found out he can not go out in the sun, and instead of burning the ship during the day when he could not go outside, they waited till night on purpose as part of their plan. they legit waited until he could leave on purpose.
Watched "Totally Killer" for the first time a couple of months ago, and loved it. Such a fun movie. Felt like a good mix of clever and campy with some nice emotional beats sprinkled in there. And Liana Liberato having a resurgence through horror is a lot of fun, she has become one of those performers who I look for in movies.
Looking forward to this! Thanks for all your continued hard work and wishing you and your family a great new year!
Awesome way to end my day, love your channel, keep up the awesome work
I just saw you as a UA-camr lately and your amazing your content is funny and awesome!! You have valid reasons and I agree with your takes! Love your channel
Skinamarink might be my favorite horror film of the year. I love the atmosphere. Reminds me a lot of House of Leaves as far as the concept of space and claustrophobia.
That one is one you either love or hate ..i guess if you are alone at night might be good to watch it.
Top 3 for me all for different reasons😊;
Talk to Me (been a fan of RackaRacka for years and couldnt of been more proud with the product the twins gave us)
Saw X (who knew the 10th film in a series could be so good, gave me what I have wanted for years and surprised me on how well they done it)
Evil Dead Rise(most consistent franchise imo and continued to keep that title - dumb, fun and highly entertaining)
Great ranking Cody! Looking forward to the mammoth video youve got planned of all the releases you seen last year😃
You actually explained perfectly the problems I had with Malum, besides the watermark and labtop. The theater I went to literally didn’t move the currents from the top or sides. I just couldn’t care after awhile cause I literally couldn’t tell what was real anymore.
"When evil Lurks" is definitely the best horror movie of the year. I totally agree you don't want to watch it immediately after you finish it because you are left feeling like you've been hit by a train.
Thanksgiving is even better.
When Evil Lurks or Talk to Me are for sure the best horror movies of the year
& Thanksgiving which is better than both.@@SwaggyDr1pL0rd
It would be the best with a better screenplay. As it is it makes zero sense and I lost interest in the half.
@@kkarx I think the script is brilliant. It won in Sitges as an unproduced scropt and Shudder gave them 25 million dollars to produce it.
Sorry to sound odd, but, I don’t see anything wrong with the beard😂😂😂😂! Happy New Year, Cody. I didn’t even know about some of the movies on your list, I’m totally out of touch. I hit the like button as per usual. Have a good one , you’re appreciated.
Love your and of year reviews!!! Thanks for the time you put into your channel! 🎉❤
saw X being so great was the biggest surprise the past 5 years. That's so awesome
hey cody! im sure this is pretty time consuming, but would you ever consider putting time stamps on your videos? i always love seeing your lists/ thoughts and where you rank things, but dont always have time to watch 1hr+ videos. i often find myself trying to skip ahead because im more curious about your thoughts on particular movies as opposed to others. ive had this thought before and not sure if youve answered this question already in the past.
been waiting for this horror list, love your content and more times than not i share the same opinions as yourself! its clear you put a lot of effort into your work
I put time stamps in certain videos where it makes sense but to be honest I dont like encouraging skipping through a video that took as long to create as this one.
I’m a simple man. I see a Cody Leach video, and I instantly click.
Here’s to hoping that Saw X gets the number one spot on this list…. IMO Tobin Bell gave one of the greatest acting performances in modern horror. What an icon.
That movie sucked ass
My Ranking:
17. Winnie-the-Pooh Blood and Honey (Terribly made, but I had a little bit of fun with it)
16. The Boogeyman (Extremely generic)
15. Insidious: The Red Door (Extremely frivolous)
14. Dream Scenario (Interesting concept for a horror comedy)
13. Cobweb
12. FNAF Movie (I liked the story, but why was there such a lack of jumpscares?)
11. Renfield
10. Totally Killer (Loved the cast)
9. Scream VI
8. Skinamarink (I am into this type of horror, and I am glad the director found success, and I hope he uses it to make this type of horror more appealing in a feature-length film)
7. M3GAN (Had a little more to offer than I expected)
6. Thanksgiving (Built for me)
5. The Last Voyage of the Demeter
4. Missing (More of a mystery thriller, but I loved it)
3. Terrifier 2 (Didn't get the chance to see it until the re-release this year)
2. Evil Dead Rise (All sorts of groovy)
1. Saw X (The biggest surprise of the year for me)
I didn't think Winnie the Poo was terrible but nothing new.
5:00 clock shadow only adds to a man's toughness look. Not saying you need it but it's nothing but an improvement. Great video.
So is that what your hiding under that mask? An awesome five o'clock shadow
Saw X is my personal favorite of the year, I’m also a huge Saw fan and like all of those movies
So happy to see Talk to Me at #1! Definitely my favorite film of the year
Evil dead on a plane would be a radical movie
That would be almost like the zombie breakout on the plane in WW Z
I feel like im the only one on earth who is not as big a fan of Saw X. It was actually good the first two acts of the film. The problem was the ending for me. Somehow yet again they are trying to get us to believe that Jigsaw planned out every single scenario even though he could have got injured/killed at any point.
Dude I just posted the same thing, thank fuck. I was feeling like Mugatu man
It was ok
Ohh shit Cody's end of the year rankings! It makes waking up at 3 a.m. for work easier when I can listen to the rankings.
By far the best movie reviewing channel on youtube
My top 10 spookies from this year:
10 Malum
9 Suitable Flesh
8 When Evil Lurks (would be higher but I can't be scared while reading lol)
7 Saw X
6 Scream 6
5 Totally Killer
4 A Haunting in Venice
3 Cobweb
2 Renfield
1 Talk to Me
Thanks for the List and Video 😀
Looking forward to Cody’s Mickey’s Mouse Trap review. Will most definitely be his most anticipated film of the year.
I won't be acknowledging it
@@CodyLeachYTi actually understand it because of how poorly they treat there audience like everybody has diffrent opinions on Things
I swear I'm the only person that hated Cobweb. The twist was predictable & other than the dream sequence, I thought it sucked.
I'm hoping 2024 brings out better horrors that's not just jump scares.
I get it. It’s not for everyone.
@CodyLeachYT if we all liked the same things, the world would end up a very boring place...It wasn't for me but I agree with you on everything else, of course, respectfully.
I'm fine being alone on my Cobweb dislike...I'm sure I'll love something in 2024 that everyone hates 😂
What you said about Pet Sematary also applies to Demeter: if we read the book, we already know how the story is supposed to end. Dracula kills everyone, and the ship drifts into dock in London with no one on board except a black dog (which is Dracula). There is a mystery, but it's completely explained (by someone's journal or the ship's log, I forget which). Still could have been an interesting film if done right, but I could tell from the trailer it wasn't.
Poor Pooh and Piglet too! Cody Leach will never EVER like you! Great Ranking! You and Sean have pretty similar tastes in movies but I can see Andy still shaking his head at you for liking Cobweb! 😂
I really enjoyed Thanksgiving. Great video Cody.
I like your reviews, you're a bit more of a critic than others out there that seem to like everything! SUBSCRIBED!!!!
So happy to see someone else giving nic cage Dracula credit! Absolutely loved renfield
Thx for making amazing content you got me through covid a couple months ago and thanks too your serpent and the rainbow video i got into god smack Just wondering what your favorite albums were from this year
Mine were
Mamoth 2 - mamoth wvh
Here we are - Foo Fighters
72 seasons - metalica
I think the twist was the fact that they were the 4 horseman. It's not like they introduced themselves as such. If i remembered correctly, that was a realization that one of the characters had towards the end of the movie
I wasn’t sure what to make of dark harvest. I can’t decide if I like or really like it. I definitely enjoyed it, which is the main thing. I’m definitely glad I watched ya this video though, as I’ve now got a list written down of horror movies to check out, that I wouldn’t of if not for this video. Thank you
41:14 the owner of my local video store in Edmonton. Alberta was the lead character in that movie. I got to see it in my hometown with a sold out crowd. It was so much fun. He did a Q&A after it was such a great experience.
I know they’re not movies but have you ever thought about reviewing/ranking black mirror episodes? I would love to see you do that
I wish Cody can see the VHS movies from my eyes. Easily favourite horror franchise from the last decade. Specially the first one, imo being GOAT tier horror flick.
I’m with you, though I think 2 is the best. 85 was pretty close for me tho.
@@skyofthelivingdead they are all great imo. Even parallel monsters from viral was astounding.
Very rare when I disagree with Cody's #1 being the best. Evil Dead Rise was my favorite of the year, followed by When Evil Lurks
My favorite video you make of every year! Thanks for all the content, Cody
Love your videos! I think we have the same taste in movies. One issue I always have is that you only seem to mention the title of each movie once in these compilations, right when you start talking about that movie, so I end up having to rewind if it's a movie I end up being interested in from your description.
Maybe you could add time stamps with the movie names or try to make sure you say the name a couple of times? That would be very helpful to me, and likely others.
Once again, you do a great job on these. Thank you!
I watched 55 Horror Movies in 2023.
My Top 10 Horror Movies of 2023:
1. Godzilla: Minus One (2023)
2. Evil Dead Rise (2023)
3. Scream VI (2023)
4. Totally Killer (2023)
5. Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
6. Knock at the Cabin (2023)
7. When Evil Lurks (2023)
8. Never Hike Alone 2 (2023)
9. Talk to Me (2023)
10. Thanksgiving (2023)
My Top 10 Worst Horror Movies of 2023:
(9-10 are decent movies, while 1-8 are the shitbombs.)
1. Nefarious (2023)
2. Skinamarink (2023)
3. When a Creature is Stirring (2023)
4. Children of the Corn (2023)
5. Pet Sematary: Bloodlines (2023)
6. The Black Demon (2023)
7. Bird Box: Barcelona (2023)
8. Fear (2023)
9. The Exorcist: Believer (2023)
10. Haunted Mansion (2023)
My Number 1 horror movie of 2023 is "Evil Dead Rise"
i actually thought nefarious was a very good movie! i believe the best way to experience this film is to put yourself in the psychiatrist's shoes and try to figure out if the guy is lying or if he actually believes that he is possessed
Demeter was my biggest disappointment BY FAR. what an awesome opportunity that did NOTHING. especially when anyone who knows Dracula knows how it has to end, it is beautifully set up as the ultimate tragedy. Instead, it's stupid characters making stupid decisions over and over and over until the ending we all already knew was coming, came.
The ending was what killed it for me. I was enjoying it up until that point, and I appreciated that version of Dracula.
Interesting, I was looking for “The Last Video Store” online and found a completely different “The Last Video Store” that also came out in 2023. It’s an Australian movie and it’s on Tubi.
It’s actually rather interesting. I love the nostalgia video store atmosphere.
Here’s a synopsis:
A video rental store's security cameras capture the love story of two young employees, but trouble arises when an ex-boyfriend, a dangerous criminal, returns.
I don’t see a release date (other than at Fantastic Fest) for the one on your list. It sounds really intriguing.
The not much more thing with Megan reminds me of classic 2005 when every comedy and horror movie had an unrated cut with a two minute difference! Awesome ranking as well!
Pooh, Clock, Fear the Night, Play Dead and Spoonful of Sugar are my bottom 5.
Talk to me, Knock at the Cabin, Saw X, Influencer and When Evil Lurks are my top 5.
I’m on the outskirts here.. I thought “No One Will Save You” was boring boring… I was not happy to have spent what little free time I have on this
The ending of Talk to Me was brilliant. I could actually feel the main character's despair
My favorite horror movie of 2023 was Saw X. For the longest time, I wasn't the biggest fan of that franchise. I thought it gave way to the more serious, depressing, torture porn side of horror that was trying to show just how "deep" and pretentious it was.
This was the movie that changed that.
Great story, excellent protagonist, and truly suspenseful.
this is the list I was waiting for
@Cody I appreciate you loving the lists and rankings. This was a fun watch. Thank you
You are the best, Cody. I always keep a notepad nearby to write down your recommendations. Since Stuckmann got busy making movies and changed his format, you are my go to for engaging film content.
The Safe Haven segment from VHS2 is fantastic, absolutely seek it out.
"Dumb shit is making my brain short-circuit" is the quote of the year only four days in 😂
As someone who loves horror i know its a genre that defines quanity over quality. I appriciate Cody sitting through a bulk of crap to find gems like When Evil Lurks as i wouldnt have seen it otherwise. Mine: Talk to me, when evil lurks, saw x, megan, evil dead rise, scream 6 and nefarious
Here’s my ranking!
1. Scream VI
2. When Evil Lurks
3. Sick
4. Talk to Me
5. Saw X
6. Evil Dead Rise
7. Infinity Pool
8. Thanksgiving
9. The Exorcist: Believer
10. M3GAN
11. Totally Killer
12. The Third Saturday in October Part V
13. The Third Saturday in October
14. It’s a Wonderful Knife
*grabs popcorn*
This is gonna be good!
Hey Cody, I encourage you to see Last Voyage of the Demeter again. I enjoyed it significantly more on second viewing. 🙌🏽
I was glad to see Godzilla Minus One made the list and ranked so high. My mom loves Godzilla movies so I took her to see it. She said it was the first time she ever found Godzilla to be scary.
That is the best movie of the year and was better than Oppenheimer
Ive done the same with the beard too Cody. You will be okay. Just remember if you trim it it will come... back
Man it sucks messing up your beard. Sometimes I try to even out my check lines on both sides only to end up clean shaven lol. I found its almost better to leave un-even then try and fix it. I feel your pain.
Finally!!! Been looking forward to this video for a long time! 😊
FNaF was one of my most favourite horror films of last year, only topped by a couple like saw x. But my childhood was all FNaF, so that explains it. And I feel like your placing on your tier was accurate for a non-fan. Excellent list!!
I was all excited about 5 Nights until i saw it.
The combining of religions in the exorcist one was so silly when they go directly against one another
completely agree with talk to me, saw x too was also my 2nd favorite of the year and a huge surprise
The actor who played the possessed guy in Nefarious absolutely crushed it though
That grindset mindset!
Nice list! Missed hell house LLC prequel tho which was pretty good
Cool list but you got to be kidding with Renfield at #7. I thought that was one of the worst. The gimmick that you brought up with Renfield's relationship with Dracula is fun for a bit but it quickly wears off. And to say Awkafina is the worst part is nothing to scoff at because she is in a huge portion of the film. Also I thought Infinity Pool is mislabeled as horror, I think it should go straight to science fiction. And Evil Dead Rise and it's Owen Wilson demon was virtually a cartoon of itself. It wasn't a very good year for movies in general.
I don't get the Owen Wilson reference
@@O.H.PbetterthanBenchPress The line where the demon says "Mommy's with the maggots now." Sounds as if it said by Owen Wilson.
@@davidjacobs8117 really, I'll have to remember that next time I see it and pay attention
Honestly, if you want a Godzilla movie similar to Minus One, you could always watch the original movie from 1954.
Minus 1 is better.
You need to watch Beau Is Afraid again, it's one of those movies you need to see multiple times to really appreciate.
If I have to watch a 3 hr movie multiple times to appreciate it, there’s a major failure there.
My favorite was Godzilla minus one and Saw X number 2. Also in my top 10......Megan,VHS 85,Late Night with the Devil, Thanksgiving,Talk to me,Evil Dead Rise,Infinity Pool and Cocaine Bear.
Our top five are nearly the same except I would have included Suitable Flesh over Evil Dead. Being a big Stuart Gordon fan, the movie was right up my alley, and was surprised it wasn't immediately embraced as a film that was just as good as anything he made and could sit alongside his filmography. The film is destined for cult status.
I saw about 30 films on your list. Can't wait for Toxic Avenger. Dark Harvest was on my radar but will check it out now based on your recommendation.
I thought Nefarious was absolutely brilliant. Also, while I appreciate everyone's opinion, it was kind of immature to use Kenneth Copland as a way to attack Christians. It's still a nice list, though.
That wasn’t me attacking Christians. lol Did you hear my thoughts on Exorcist Believer just minutes later? Pretty contradicting if I was against Christians.
Awesome list!
Did you get a chance to see Poor Things?
The sort of a Disney trope in Haunted Mansion where stuff happens that proves the existence of ghosts and the supernatural but, however it’s explained by revealing that the normally unassailable Hercule Perot was actually drugged with an hallucinogen so of coarse (you almost had me fooled for a minute), it’s all just a live action Scooby-Do episode.
Last shift is a really good horror flick for sure. I liked Malum but Last Shift is definetly worth a watch. I think you'd like it. I just picked it up for like 3 bucks at BigLots. A good one to add to the collection.
just saw when evil lurks, awesome suggestion!
Just watched dark harvest and I agree with you! Thought it was an interesting horror movie with some pretty good thought put into the script which I like. I thought the twist wasn’t bad but created some plot holes.
You look like metroman when he decided he didn’t wanna be metroman anymore
0:35
I have to admit, 'Thanksgiving' was my favorite
One of the great mysteries of hollywood would have to be why studios keep greenlighting Children of the Corn movies.
Great List man! I recommend the movie Red Rooms that came out this year as well.
As info the family who did Where the Devil Roams also did Hellbender if you haven't seen it. Decent movie.
I really liked and got creeped out with Cobweb and that rarely ever happens. I hated the reveal of the sister though. It was SOOO BAD!
