Wow, thank you for posting this, last night opened 2 mangos and they were already sprouting, one even looked like it had started creating bark. New (local) Subscriber, love this, was this a class through the rare fruit council? Still newish to mangos and tropicals. Took me too long sadly, I’m 53. Loved listing to this Dr. I just (this year) realized my home sits between both Zill brothers. 😂

a polyembryonic mango seed when planted won't send up one mango shoot. it will send up several, usually 3-6. In the commericial industry they weed out the biggest and smallest and use the medium growing shoots. For the average homeowner you can use every single mango seed you ever plant and graft it because you're not trying to get uniform trees. If one is more vigorous or dwarf you can sell it, trade it, whatever. A commercial grower can't have all their trees growing differently.
Basically: poly embryonic mangoes produce multiple shoots most of them clones. Nurseries try and go for the clones and not the outliers just to provide as consistent a “product” as they can; it provides more predictability; about 70% reliable he said.
