Переглядів 8902 місяці тому

This long time favored and go to rootstock for Florida nurseries is becoming harder to find locally as these old trees have been cut down leading now to a reliance on turpentine seed imports from Costa Rica or the Dominican Republic.

Does usually take long to ripen? I had it in the cupboard for a week and the skin is getting shriveled but it’s still hard 😢

Great video
I figured out the same trick for my Cayman Islands mango trees going into "reclaimed" swamp land. I have 1'-2' of very rich loamy soil on top of solid (very few fissures and holes) limestone bedrock. I piled up a 3' mound of soil and rocks on top of that, ringed it in with the biggest boulders I could move by myself and then put more soil around that. Later, as the tree outgrew the ring I added more boulders on top of the soil above the root system. Topped it all with garden trimming mulch. The idea is better drainage without drying out, increased soil depth and for the roots to have anchors to grab ahold of to resist high winds in tropical storms and hurricanes in otherwise light, shallow soil that would not hold the roots down. I also prune hard whenever a storm is aimed at us after Hurricane Grace knocked down 3 of my trees in 2021. My heavy pruning worked for Hurricane Beryl last week and the timing is right for rapid regrowth in prep for next season!
I live in Ocala and we get frost. I hope this will be the answer for a mango tree in my zone that can endure the few days of cold.
Sugarloaf and Pineapple Pleasure.
Thank you Maurice Kong, you made citrus flavors possible.
M-4, Sugarloaf, Dwarf Hawaiian, Zill 40-26 is what we planted
Angie, Carrie, Julie, Imam Passand, Juliette - we got this flavor covered
Can't wait when I can harvest my Cecilove
Maha Chanook doesn't make my list to use up what limited space I have.
One of the most care free easy to maintain mango 🥭 trees! Thank you Walter Zill!
Outstanding video !!!! I don't have that many mango's...and maybe only 15 tropicals. But have maintained 600 plants or so for many yrs...been gardening for over 25 yrs and have planted nearly 7000 plants. I am a temperature finatic. Have checked it every single day for over 22 yrs. This is great info & he confirms--with his outstanding bkgrd & credentials--what I thought I knew or believed to a T.
Will this rootstock be good for Houston texas area?
Growing a few up in lake city. The worst smell in the world, waking up after a hard freeze and smelling the death.
Appreciate the video. How would you treat a green sapote with splitting bark?
Did the scion just get wedge cut only on one side? could not really see what was cut from the budwood
Yuminilislaidys
i hope he makes a cross with mangifera oderata
You enjoy that strong smell?
@@BearingFruitTropicals i think that it could combine well with a regular mango smell with the right genetic mix but I dont mind it by itself
ceci love x oderata is what im going to try if i can get my hands on a tree
Hi, Is Glen a classic flavor? I am looking for a classic flavor tree with good disease resistant. Do you have any suggestion?
Glenn is a classic flavor. I’m not sure which classic varieties have good disease resistance though
Where can I get these??
About once a year when the mood hits
Timestamps?
How would you suggest I order the Tommy Atkins tree from Florida..
Depends on where it’s going. What is the destination?

Agreed 👍🏽💯
great info, great post!
did he say what he use to fill gaps between rocks? and i am wondering if he just place a pot with mango on top of the soil and surround by rocks? what are the dimensions of the mound ? you guys don't ask right questions there, lol. Bc you might have much better results with mango with planting like this!
Big mounds
@@greatergood3706 does he water it? especially if it's just planted for example from 3 gal pot
@@EffectivePickyEatersSolutions plant it during the rainy season.
At least in California during persimmons season I was buying several bags with persimmons quite cheap, in farmers market, they last quite long enough on kitchen counter. For some reason they are expensive in grocery stores
Sundry mango eh?
These is my favorite variety, will definitely be interested in ordering some from y’all when they’re ready
Sounds good!
Lehigh Acres, FL... Many thanks Alex. For years (slow learner) I thought my mango seedling sprouts were affected by anthracnose... I sprayed copper to no affect. Most seedlings continued to decline and looked like heck - no good for grafting rootstock. Finally, on one of the Facebook forums, Donald suggested an insect issue. As soon as I started spraying the seedlings w/ Sevin... issue resolved! Unsure if Thrips or other insect. Microscopic.
When will these be ready to ship?
About a month
@@BearingFruitTropicals sounds good, please post an update with an announcement when they are ready
Canistel ftw!!

Man, i wonder who elses dad we could learn about while trying to listen to rootstock. My dad, my dad ate mangos. Yeah, i bet my dad ate mangos with your dad.
I know where a bunch of turpentine trees are. Is there a market for the seeds?
I would have to believe there is
Yes, but is a red or yellow hog plum?
I got both. This one is red
Is turpentine tree mango a fruit tree ?why is it needed a rootstock?
Turpentine is a mango variety that is adapted to Florida soils and therefore used as a rootstock by Florida nurseries.
Oh ok
I've seen them cut down because most don't like the fruit. It's viewed as a Garbage tree.
Legit!
great content!
So what are these Q & A sessions called? Are these classes that Dr. Campbell conducts from time to time?
Classes he had.
Lol, just get Richard talking...
Triumph persimmon is amazing!! But for some reason nobody propagates it...
Can you please elaborate what exactly so cool about that variety? I am asking bc I want to propagate persimmons for myself and I know only 2 varieties
Hell yeah, gonna need these delivered to cali this season (if possible)
Lemon Zest is going to be very hard to top in terms of taste. Winner!!
I think so too!
