- Things to look for before you water your jade plant.
🪴First you can check if the pot feels light
🪴Check drainage holes if soik is dry that means soil is completely dry all the wsy to the bottom
🪴Look at the leaves, you can press on it to see if they feel soft. Normally they are plump
🪴Check the gap between the soil and the edge of the pot. When soil dries out it shrinks. So there would be some gap
🪴If you are still unsure and can’t really tell, you hold the plant from the base of the main trunk and gently pull it out.
If the soil is completely dry, you can go ahead and water it. Give it a complete soak. Dump any excess water and put it back in a sunny location so it can’t start drying out.

Hi..Tej, such a beautiful jade you have there, Tej..i would like to enquired about jade.
I always have a problem when repotting a jade, each time i repot my jade it doesn't grow new root n it turn black on the root side and end up dry n died, what did i done wrong? Pls help..
I’m sorry to hear that. Please give me more information about the whole repotting process step by step.
Do you remove the old soil completely?
Do you water it after repotting it ?
How big is the new pot ?
Does the pot has drainage holes?
Where you keep it right after repotting?
Do you fertilize or after repotting?
Do you water the plant before you repot it ?
I repotted my jade plants all the time they are not very sensitive to repotting.
@@PlantingwithTej Hi..Tej..tq for reply me so soon.
First yes. I do remove the soil completely, after repotting it i didn't water for 1 week, my pot is 15cm my jade plant height is 14cm, yes..there is a drainages holes, i put it under shade area of my car porch but i didn't water the plant b4 repotted it.
Soil i use peat moss + pumice, some time i use compose soil +pumice n i add slow release fertilizer when mixing my soil. Tq.
You’re welcome. It is good you didn’t water it before repotting coz jade has very thin roots they break very easily when we try to repot it when soil is wet. You don’t need to remove all the old soil. I just break some roots from the bottom and the sides so they can start growing into the new soil but I never disturb the root ball and remove all soil.
There was only one time I did it recently and the soil was wet. I did it because I was trying to make it fit in a bonsai pot which was much shorter in height and I try to wire it also which I broke a lot of roots. My plant got transplant shock. I try to water it right away then it got root rot.
Maybe you live in a hot weather so try to water it after a day if it wasn’t watered before you repot it. Also try using 10-12 cm pot if plant is 15 cm and if the root system is very small. I would also suggest bottom water your jade. It helps the roots to expand all the way to the bottom in search of water. Check out my watering video for more tips.
@@PlantingwithTej Yes..maybe because i remove all the old soil on it, and i water it too late till the leaves shriveled. Tq Tej for the great info n advice.
You’re welcome. I hope you can resolve the issue. Don’t forget to update me.

What pot mix do you use for jade plant
Your jade looks big in leaf size and stem where can I get this kind
They are available in most nurseries and even in big box stores sometime. They are very easily available everywhere.
Which jade do you have . It has giant leaves
Yes
My jade has black spots on its leaves since 2 months. It started after I repotted and watered it. I haven't given it any water in weeks. Please advice 🙏
Hi I would suggest you that you take the plant outside the pot. Make sure the water is not looking at the bottom is the pot. It should have proper drainage. That way you can slightly pull on the roots the check if they are rotting and breaking very easily. It’s most likely a moisture issue or too much humidity.
There is also a chance of fungus and some insect. Make sure to spray the whole plant with soapy water (any dish soap). Leave it for 5-10 minutes then rinse with water and let it dry. Remove any unhealthy leaves and roots. If the base of the stem is rotting then you can cut it from the bottom and propagate the plant. Refer to my propagating videos.
If stem is not rotting then repot it in a fresh dry soil and new clean pot and hold water for few days it the soil was wet at the bottom. If not then give it water and put it a sunny location.
Thank you for the advice and detailed instructions.
What does the gap mean? Mines doing the same thing ?
It’s mean M’s the soil is completely dry. When soil as no moisture it shrinks and get compacted.
@@PlantingwithTej grate thank you!, what if the soil is damp or wet and still creates the gap? Because I forgot to mention previously, I watered my jade and after a few days the soil was damp but weirdly had a gap between the pot.
@alex_666_. If the soil did go back to its original shape. After watering you can press down the soil properly add more soil to fill the gaps. Don’t worry it during mean anything harming to the plant.
After its dry...how much to water...
You should water it throughly until all the soil is wet or bottom water it until the top of the soil gets wet. You can check it with wooden skewer like I shoes in the full video. Please refer to this video. Thanks.

@@PlantingwithTej can I grow from fallen leaves
Yes you sure can for sure unless they are super dried up.
Indoor r outdoor plant?
I’m in Alberta, Canada. I have it as an indoor plant. It can be grown outside in warmer climates. It can’t tolerate frost so it can’t be kept outside below 10 degrees (50 F)
