Float position on dozers are only used during back dragging or return blade to ground level quickly. Trying to use the float option going forward will always cause the dozer blade to dig deeper.

I love looking at the older bulldozers and thinking about all the engineering and labor it took just making them. Making the small ones take even more design and labor to build them. And getting to operate the small one is just a great experience. I see medium size dozers on some of the larger farms in the area with rolling hills. (Western Kentucky) One farm has been repairing a drainage systems in their fields all winter.
Coming from a farming back ground, you catch on to the controls quickly. Thanks for taking us along.
Designing a small Bulldozer definetely takes way less engineering than a commercial grade big modern bulldozer. Way less.
“Gnarly” is a good description for that brush/mesquite or whatever that nasty stuff is. It’s interesting to see how to manage that terrain for their uses. Suggestion 🤔 That I see is very demanding in the small and mighty equipment world for the past few years is stand on mini skid steer machines. The smaller variety Bobcat Mt-100 & Kabota's scl-1000 & Ditch witch sk-800 & sk-1050 & Vermeer ctx-925 & Ctx-100. The larger one's Ditch witch Sk-1550 & SK-3000 or
Vermeer CTX-160. This should make for some very interesting video and lots of comments. I've got the Vermeer CTX-160 and a few attachments. Very powerful 🦾🦾 just something to consider. Keep up the great work and May God bless you both 💕
I ran one up in northern Canada for reclamation work in the patch, we flew it around with a helicopter. Was a lot of fun

Float is for backdragging whether on a dozer or a loader. Trying to use float going forward is an excellent way to find the blade diving and the front of the machine in the air.

They are very good little tractors. They have alot of options and configurations, I have a friend that has one with a loader and backhoe. And a brush hog, and tiller. It never stops I was really looking at one until I bought my tractor.
This was cool to see a mini bulldozer in action. I tend to think smaller contractors might like a compact machine like this for certain jobs.
I agree. Cool but a skid steer would smoke that thing, albeit 3 times the weight.
Have a JD350 b track loader now but I'm thinking of going the other way. In the future there could be some very good deals on T-72 tanks, will just have to fit a hydraulic blade.
Seriously, that was done with a lot of Bren Gun carriers after WW2. A neighbour had one. It wasn't great as a bulldozer, but it sure sounded cool ( flathead Ford V8 power)

I spent a little time looking at the specs on this and on something like an ASV RT-25 compact track loader (least expensive CTL I could easily find). In these smaller sizes, I'm not convinced that a blade offers much over a bucket, with the possible exception of angling. A CTL has rubber tracks and a higher road speed than the MH4900, so you'd be able to take it a little further before you needed to trailer it. The CTL gives you lift arm capability, something the MH4900 (in that configuration) doesn't have. The MH4900 does have a 3-point hitch. It's also powered by a Honda GX690 22.1HP gas engine. I don't know what the longevity of that would be compared to a 24.7 Perkins diesel that's in the ASV, but my inclination is towards the diesel.
I'd have to be looking long and hard at parts availability, company viability, warranty costs and such before I'd buy into a Struck. While I picked ASV because of the cost, they've been around since 1983, and the same questions would apply. Kubota, Caterpillar, John Deere, Case, etc are likely to produce more units per year, and have more dealers and service centers. You'll pay more, but you get more. I think the MH4900 is just not flexible enough beyond being a cute, tiny bulldozer.
What is the price comparison between the two? Interesting comparison.
The MH4900 in that configuration is about $27,500, according to their website. The ASV CT-25 with a 48" dirt bucket seems to be around $40,000, from a dealer. I'm not sure if it could be had a little cheaper or not. Now, that being said, I think the odds of finding a used MH4900 is probably pretty low, while finding a good used compact track loader is pretty likely. So new vs new, you're looking at $13K more. Since you're unlikely to find a used MH4900, you can get a good used CTL for about $5K more, but it'll take some watching and waiting.
@@JCWren You've also gotta factor in resale though. Resale going to be horrible on the MH4900, whereas CTL's are basically like buying a bond. Very niche market for the Struck. That's simply why you don't see them in the wild. People are buying CTL's or compact tractors, this thing is not even a distant option.
I could use a dozer for some projects I have in mind. I just think a D4G with a way blade would let me get some of those projects done, before my time is up in this world. 😃
To all who have commented. I own two compact tractors and the MH-4900 equipped just like this one. For push dirt, no compact tractor will come close. For digging out stumps, no compact tractor will come close. Then for working in steep grades, no compact tractor will come close! The little dozer makes it possible for me to achieve things on my small farm that would be impossible without it. The front loader is capable of using mini-skidsteer attachments. That could be a game changer. It is slow, but highly manueverable. If I had to have one machine, it would be the Struck with the loader, 3- point hitch and attachments!

It would be interesting to compare to a stand on track loader. I rented a kubota scl1000 for a landscape project. I was blown away how useful it was.
WAY better the Kabota you rented it would have pushed the bush over no problem
Kind of a neat little unit but for the money I think a compact tractor would be just as capable and more versatile. A small used mini excavator with blade would also be a more useful option.

I have always thought these machines to be gimmicky. So very little information on them. Used to advertise in Popular Mechanics Magazine. Very interesting to see one do some work.

Tim, that stump wouldn't come out with a 100 horse tractor. It's a mesquite tree. Almost impossible to kill, as you saw with the regrowth on the stump. Fyi, A tree that size probably has a 20 foot long tap root (more moisture down deep). I've tried to pull out 4 inch mesquite trees with a 50hp tractor with zero success.

Clearing land for goats that I find amazing as they eat everthing even to try the bark on Douglas fir trees Cedar trees all most anything green or any plant ?
I see that at some point you are going to get one. In some of your projects you would have one. I think that you can get a better seat for it. Maybe put some spring system on it.

I was always disappointed that Magnatracs had nothing to do with magnets.
I'm still very disappointed in struck that they don't offer a Diesel in more models. This size mini Dozer would be a hot seller with a Diesel option for it. I'm looking to purchase the 8500 model because it's the only one with a Diesel in it. I just have to see if I can modify the transmission controls to make it easier to carry grade.
My friend has goats. They keep the grass mowed short in their enclosure. It’s not the healthiest meal, but it’s supplemented with Timothy grass and corn feed, and doesn’t cause problems. They also dispose of Christmas tree’s in January.
But of course, this grass is ‘different’. Not sure if it is ok for them or not.

I'm impressed that anything grows there but I'm used to black dirt. I learn something new today I didn't know that cactus was protected. I was wondering how long they live?
They leave a strange skeleton when they die. Really interesting cactus. Very particular about where it will grow. It does transplant well but doesn't naturalize or spread outside its home range. Desert plants have enormous root systems either go very deep or spread out in a very wide area. I wash you had a drone to use. You would see mature desert plants are very uniformly spread out. Mature plants get all of the water around them and choke out all other plants. So it really looks like an organized person planted it. Also notice there is a hole under almost every bush for something to live in.

Maybe you can find an economy tractor thats the brand somewhere near where you live and show case that sometime with all the attachments they have for it. They were made from 1949 to the 1999's , I have a 1970's model
Ever since I discovered the Struck MD196K mini dozer kit, I've wanted one, for two primary reasons. First one being, what kid at heart doesn't want to build his own dozer? And second, we have an old dairy barn that's home to pigs, cattle, sheep, and equines, that needs cleaned out with some degree of frequency. We have a first gen 2025R, that's almost too big to navigate the narrow lanes of the low-ceiling barn. I've thought a Struck dozer would be the ideal tool to shove manure to the outside where it could be handled by the 2025R, or bigger tractor with much greater ease and efficiency.
Why wouldn't you just buy a stand-on track loader or skid steer? Much more versatility.
@@Bigboyz-li7fo Good question. Valid one, too. Visibility is an issue on skid steers, and a stand-on track loader would be fine if the ceilings were higher in our barn. I'm 5'9" and have hit my head on the overhead beams before when the pack gets deep.
Deep root system on that 'green bush' which is native to hot dry and poor sand of the desert. Where is the water/electric line ? Green plant might be 100+. In Texas they use two D11 with anchor chain from a big ship. They attach the chain to each and stretch them out between - start walking to the distance. The Indians burned them.

Wearing out the undercarriage doing nothing. Make the mchine do the work it will do more than you think.load the blade up and push it works better that way.
Turn around and use the ripper to rip it to cut the roots

Was that a mesquite? They have deep wide spreading roots. Mesquite is a real problem “weed” in Texas. Amazing his filters don’t clog faster than you can work.

I really do like this machine, though. Most of the work I would personally like to have a tractor for could probably be better handled by a machine like this. But like your friend said, tractors are a Swiss army knife. It's hard to beat that versatility.
Struck is thinking and releasing the RS1000 with a hydraulic drive. Would be the first since the MD750 to have a compact crawler with a hydraulic drive.
I wish I could use a little dozer like that around my house I got several days of work I could do lol I didn’t like how the blade wouldn’t stay straight when pushing on the corner needs that fixed if the manufacturer is watching lol

If Tom is a pilot he is used to controlling the machine to a high degree. He has skills. But it is odd that an air force pilot plays with a bulldozer (!) on his days off.

There’s a lot about dozer theory you haven’t been told. That machine and any other bulldozer will push much better loaded up. The ride will be a bit better too. There’s so many things here in Vermont I’d love to use dozer that for!
And you would want it to have an enclosed cab with heat and air conditioning

Is there a channel similar in style to ttwt but for big farming tractors?
Check out Laura Farms. A lot of the earlier stuff is really good and informative. It may still be, but the character of the channel changed over time and I lost interest.
Problem with a lot of these types of channels unlike TTWT is the equipment don't stick around for more than a few episodes, so you don't know how it fairs in real life. They're basically like car review channels, 1 week tops and you'll never see it again. I used to watch a big farming channel that's got over a half million subscribers, but it's basically turned into a revolving infomercial.

As would I, but you need to compare new to new for a fair comparison. Remember that not everyone has the experience (or friends with experience) to look at used heavy equipment and determine if they're getting a cherry or a lemon.

Definatly would have uses but for the average home owner a compact tractor would be a better all around buy. I could see this unit being good a spreading top soil on hill sides. Slopes where you would not take a small tractor.
For those of us that are used to things being green and not so dusty, if it looks like they could film M*A*S*H there move. I've had meetings out west a few times. On one trip to Tucson I met a local rancher. He said it took 100 acres per cow, and they looked bad. You could read a newspaper through em. I didn't want to ask how many it took to make a hamburger. The rule of thumb in Tn. is 1.5 - 2 per acre and that keeps em fat. I want mine to look like a Mother's Day Out in the hood, no bones showing.

. You just need to know the equipment you are operating. That's not a D-9. And like most people think. It's not that easy. coming from a very seasoned dozer operator
