I don’t think you can just say about a trans person -they’ve changed their name, but they used to go by this name so I’m going to keep using it. Especially when you said “he” changed “his” name. If you’re including someone in this video of iconic speed running moments for their achievement, it would seem you’re trying to honor them, so why not go all the way and call them what they have asked to be called.
Just a note about respecting trans people: if someone comes out as trans you should use their pronouns and name even when talking about them in the past before their transition. You had a great opportunity to educate people and undo some of the hurt caused by transphobic people who treated Narcissa so badly.
Agreed, I'm not exactly the most politically correct or woke person myself but even I was like uhhh kinda awkward to keep referring to them by the pronouns they used in the past and their former name. Would've been pretty easy to show just basic human decency by saying the pronouns and name they want to be referred to. (Or atleast like me, I don't know their pronouns so I just used they/them)
I don't think that the fact it was her common name justifies deadnaming and misgendering a trans person. Especially the misgendering is just unnecessary rudeness.
@@mnm1273nothing is funny. Some people in this community spend most of their time alone so things like empathy and understanding take a backseat to being edgy. All the money that goes to them every year. And cancer still cannot be stopped, just donate to another cause at this point... if I’m missing the point let me know because that wasn’t meant to be funny.
What? You can't just throw money at cancer to cure it. The money raised for charity goes to paying the scientists and doctors who are working on a cure, and to spread cancer awareness. You cant speed up the process of curing cancer either. It will most likely take years until a cure is found. Also, the money raised at gdq goes to the same cause as any other event. Donating to a different charity wouldn't make a difference.
Cancer research definitely has helped a lot, raised survival rates for different kinds of cancer significantly, raised quality of life for patienta etc. The problem is because its such a well supported cause some of the charities are very big companies and they burn the money donated to them like it was nothing and most of it doesn't get anywhere near the scientists
Just because there isn't a cure doesn't mean the money isn't going to good use. Our World in Data, an Oxford supported study organization, found that cancer research has drastically increased the amount of people who live past 5 years after diagnosis. Since the 70's, the amount of people who live more than 5 years after diagnosis has increased by approximately 15-30%, with more noticeable increases in areas like leukemia, stomach, and prostate cancer which saw increases of 30-60%. Cancer research is more important than ever, even if a cure isn't here yet, or perhaps isn't possible, we are still seeing incredible improvements that are helping people and making it so that cancer is not a death sentence like before. Edit: as a side note, this study also shows that the amount of people dying globally from cancer each year has decreased from around 1/5 to 1/6, although that may not sound like a lot, it's the difference between millions of people dying each year or living to tell their story. more info here: ourworldindata.org/cancer-death-rates-are-falling-five-year-survival-rates-are-rising
