Good bye Apollo. You were one of the first speedrun youtubers that I've ever watched. You'll never see Billy Mitchell lose his cuase against Twin Galaxy, but we will for you. Thanks for everything.
Interestingly, the "I could have done it" or "I deserved this run" mentality doesn't just go to Speedrun cheaters. Stephen Glass is one of the most infamous journalists who ever lived. He wrote for a very influential magazine called The New Republic. Over the course of several years he partially or completely fabricated dozens of stories before finally being caught, fired, and discredited. Nowadays he's very open about the experience and expresses disgust with what he did (and he actually talks to many future journalists, using his story as one of caution to ward people away from the path he took). He says that how it started was that he had a story that wasn't quite clicking and he thought "Well, if I just had ONE more quote it would work perfectly..." so he put the quote in, and suddenly the story was great. And then he didn't take it out. And, of course, no one had ever given him that quote. So this mentality is actually quite common among cheaters and liars in general.
I think its about wanting to be special. Just one single quote. Just one splice. They just want someone's eyes on them. And when it works it makes them ecstatic. It's sad really. At least some of them regret it.
Word is, Karl is kicking Billy’s ass in court as we speak. Well, maybe not as we speak since he’s on the other side of the world as me and it’s 9am where I live, but in general people are saying he’s schooling Billy in court. Can’t wait for the video on the lawsuit. I can’t see him losing. Billy is a provable liar.
I think they banned the obvious guy cause he basically proved how easy it is to cheat and instead of fixing the problem they just wanted to shut him up
Korben Cullen He wasn’t being. A bitch pointing out how fucking terrible the moderating is. It doesn’t matter if they are unpaid, it is still their job to check speedruns. If they are unpaid and do not wish to check speedruns, then they should stop being a fucking mod.
It’s the superiority slope. He knows he /could/ do it, so what’s the point in actually doing it? It’s easier to post some splice, doesn’t matter, I would’ve made the run anyway. Most cheaters are high-level and highly skilled athletes, they don’t cheat because they thought they’d lose. They cheat because they /know/ they’d win anyway, so why put in the effort?
@@BowieProYT I think the point a lot of people are making is that if I ran a scam on you and after you fell for it I'd reveal it and gave you your money back and explained how to the scam works just so you wouldn't fall for in the future. Should I be arrested for it?
There might be more context that Apollo glossed over, but from the way he presented it, it sounds like Loan Shark Joe was demonstrating how lax the mods where when it came to authenticating speedruns. That fact that they didn't catch such an obviously fake speedrun, and then banned LSJ in retaliation says to me that that website is not to be trusted. They don't catch fake speedruns, and they ban people who point this out. The had the opportunity to learn from that experience and shape up, and they chose not to. But what do I know? Defiler Of Sylok he shouldn't have been permabanned. The moderators for that game should be criticized because they are not doing their job good. Apollo did the same thing with oot and didn't get banned. But hey, rules are rules.
this is like saying "well if the punishment for admitting to murdering someone is going to jail forever, why would anybody confess??" the solution is simple- don't cheat in the first place. you have already made your mistake, admitting it doesn't really fix it. even if you admit it you should still get banned, at least for a long while.
@@emprox1 that's a irrational extreme. Also, it's more akin to stealing right in front of a cop to see if they notice than murder, because nobody got harmed. @Dcvbkyrsscbgdsxcgf He is on the list of people caught cheating, therefore apollo is saying he was caught cheating. Simple logic. People are correcting him by saying he shouldn't be on the list because he wasn't ever caught.
@Dcvbkyrsscbgdsxcgf Please, elaborate. Here, I'll even elaborate my point before you. First of all, in the description of the video in question, it stated, quite clearly, that the video was a TAS. If the admins admitted a video that proclaimed itself to be a TAS, that's the admins' fault. Second of all, nobody ever figured it out, therefor he was never caught. If somebody got away with a crime and turned themselves in, that doesn't mean they were caught. This video said neither of those things, so you can't use your flimsy excuse of 'that was all explained within the video'.
@Dcvbkyrsscbgdsxcgf How childish of you. If you're going to insult people for having bad points, you need to have good points. You clearly don't understand how an argument works. Let's look at this simply: Apollo said that the person was caught cheating. They were not caught cheating. Therefor, apollo is wrong. Can you manage the insurmountable task of providing a counter-argument? If not, then anything you have to say is a waste of effort that would be better spent doing something with your life.

You entirely misinterpreted the purpose of LoanSharkJoe’s speedrun. He made the cheated speedrun as a way to show how the moderators clearly did not thoroughly review speedrun before verifying them, and LoanSharkJoe points out that this indicates it is very likely that there are many other cheated speedruns that were verified simply because nobody took the time to actually review it. LoanSharkJoe makes his video in order to share this perspective, as he initially made the fake speedrun with the intent of making a video about it, and the moderators didn’t like being called out for obviously sub-par work, so they unjustly banned him altogether. His speedrun was made in order to prove how flawed the speedrun verification system is and not to actually get a spot on the leaderboard, thus he should not be included in this video.

It's not exclusive to any field, look at Lance Armstrong or Jon Jones. Top-tier folks cheat to get the edge they need to be unforgettably world class.
I think its about wanting to be special. Just one single quote. Just one splice. They just want someone's eyes on them. And when it works it makes them ecstatic. It's sad really. At least some of them regret it.

Loan Shark Joe isn't a cheater. He set out to improve the site, nothing more.

Loan shark wasn’t ‘caught’ cheating, he done it to show how lazy the moderators were and purposely added everything to shorten the run to prove the lack of competence in the mods ability to identify cheats.
Dcvbkyrsscbgdsxcgf Did you? He never got caught, and he deleted the run HIMSELF after it got verified.
@Dcvbkyrsscbgdsxcgf I don't see you refuting my point.

Imagine how empty life must be to go thru all this work to cheat on a videogame speed run
Imagine cheating and then threatening people who caught you in the act.
8:05 - I love the subreddit moderator's user flare on the "Anti" portion of the video:
"If I post about you, that's not good".
"If you file a claim because your feelings are hurt, that is illegal..."
Billy Mitchell, are you listening?
He did probably....
Rest in peace Apollo, I'm sorry your personal demons won.
me at school : 1 page of work
me discovering speedrun cheaters : 120 pages of work, 3 videos, 5 interviews
RIP. Enjoyed your videos. Thought he just quit. Condolences to his family.
I’ve been binge watching these you legend. Rest In Peace
Yeah... he literally just said that in the video. Like... immediately after he brought it up, he explained LoanSharkJoe’s entire motive. Hell, he even said that he didn’t think LoanShark should have been banned for that, since he was just trying to make a point. Are people just conveniently tuning out the video in that part in particular?
gothicMCRgirl but then he also says "this filthy cheater confessed before he could be caught"
@@16montana24kobe fucking hell man, how daft are you? 3:13 "In this case I don't think he is very likely to cheat again, he came clean before he got caught and deleted the run himself" When the hell did he say "filthy cheater", or are you just trying to stir up more misinterpreted sayings to boost your ratings. You know, despite the fact that so many of you say that Loansharkjoe doesn't belong on this list and that Apollo misrepresented it, you sure do love to misinterpret the things he say...
rest in paradise Apollo you will always be missed
We miss you,Apollo.
Yes, we do.
Wasn't aware Kr1tical/Penguizo was a speed runner, I saw his video but I thought he was joking when he said he was the record holder.
He ran house of caravan for giggles, but ended up going ham for the record. Classic Charlie.
