  • Shintaro recently received his BJJ black belt from his friend Brian Glick, a Danaher black belt. In this episode, Shintaro talks about what that means to him, and how it's been to be a student again. He also elaborates on how his BJJ journey has shaped his Judo.

    Being a black belt in judo and bjj and having a wrestling background basically makes you a grappling master

    Congratulations Shintaro. You are an inspiration.
    I'm pretty fresh in the grappling world with a brand new blue belt in BJJ, and I hope to be doing this for many years to come. Your content has always been great and makes me eager to do some Judo soon as I'm near a good school!
    Judo coral belt and BJJ black belt... truly amazing.

    It's funny, because Judo guys have a lot of respect for BJJ once they start training it, and vice versa. At my BJJ school we train Judo primarily for the stand up game, and holy sh*t is it hard not pulling guard and trying to actually take people down. There are so many quick variables that fly by, and you need to go for the kill when the chance arises. With BJJ, you can get a dominant position and keep it for a while, no matter the skill level of your opponent. Then, it gives you time to set up the sub. But in stand up it feels like the "dominant position" has such a short timer on it, so you gotta be good at the technique in a vacuum first, and then get even better at the set-ups... But, if you get good at Judo and BJJ, then you're a beast.

    Also
    I have a question that i think you could answer better than any other youtuber i follow... What is a batsugun?
    The way it was explained to me is that its like a tournament but to grade up instead of getting medals... But this gives me more questions than answers... How does it work? Who can try it? Are there multiple ranks up in a single event or do you can go just one belt up?
    And whatbis your personsl opinion on it? Is it good or fair to do that? Like... If eddie hall enters one... Could he get a blsckbelt without knowing actual judo? Or what if someones practices some other msrtial art and use that experience to win?

    • @gingercore69
      @gingercore69 Рік тому +1

      Ive been told to try it out because for some stuff i have ridiculous strength(as in... I cant bench or bent over row 225... But i can push and pull a 250 guy arround like he weights nothing for some reason... Even tho it uses the same muscles) and i have some throwing and grappling experience from bjj, sanda, ninjutsu and sipalki... But i feel if i got any grade up like that, it wouldnt feel like i did it with judo...

    Same for me, the reason I can do BJJ is a good schedule. I found a school that does a 6 AM class, so I can go right before work

      Do a lot of people like the 6 oclock class? That sounds good to me, but I'm wondering how popular it is.

      @@ambulocetusnatans We're a small gym so there's only 5-8 of us in the mornings (mostly working guys) By comparison the evening class has at least 15 people, usually more

      At my school, people also love the mornings. We can train and get it out of the way and have the rest of the day open for family time/whatever else.

      @@ambulocetusnatans Awesome! There's nothing else like it. Even if it's a small group, I think you'll get a dedicated crew. I look at it as a civilian version of the military. BJJ is our PT.
